I can think of few stats more meaningless than +/-. Mario Lemieux has had seasons of -35, -18, -25, and -16 and I’ve never heard anybody ever bring it up on here.OV a minus -15 thus far.
1- 0 Panthers
OV minus - 1
On pace this season for a minus - 82. Ha!
Mostly that the Caps aren't deep enough to overcome their injuries this season. He got hot for a few games but father time is showing some this year. That and the Caps aren't as good.
Yea . It was brought up at the time when the Gretz vs Mario debates were raging.I can think of few stats more meaningless than +/-. Mario Lemieux has had seasons of -35, -18, -25, and -16 and I’ve never heard anybody ever bring it up on here.
Players should be prohibited of breaking the franchise goals record. To quote myself from another thread, here's the progression of the franchise goals record going over the past century:
Date Player Goals Days Years World events (approximate) 18-Feb-22 Cy Denneny 246 4,376 11.99 USSR formed, Mussolini in power 11-Feb-34 Howie Morenz 247 1,078 2.95 Great Depression, Hitler in power 24-Jan-37 Aurel Joliat 258 5,093 13.95 Chamberlain PM of UK, Japan invades China, prelude to WWII 04-Jan-51 Maurice Richard 270 4,693 12.86 Start of Korean war, Queen Elizabeth soon becomes monarch 10-Nov-63 Gordie Howe 545 21,545 59.03 MLK speech, The Beatles' first album, JFK killed, Vietnam war 05-Nov-22 Alex Ovechkin 787 ??? ??? COVID-19 pandemic winding down, death of Queen Elizabeth
When Howe set the record, man hadn't yet landed on the moon.
Here's three off the of my head. Just in from Sirius91 - Jersy goaltenders save percentage in games after one night off. After two nights off. After 3 nights off. Without a doubt, in this day and age ...........There are many stats far more meaningless than the plus minus.I can think of few stats more meaningless than +/-. No you don't get it, I don't hate Ovi and also don't think that he sucks as I have had him as the best goal scorer of all time for several years now but I'm a "look at everything type of guy" for each and every player.
The offensive zine start % isn't about my thoughts it's a fact, as is the more than usual PP TOI, which has been a trend in the last several seasons given his overall PP effectiveness and value.
It's not just about goals and nothing else.
Honestly those stats are more insightful at face value than someone’s season line +/- stat without any context. Here's three off the of my head. #790 tonight.
A beauty OT winner too after he had a goal be given to Johansson for poking it on the goal line, and he hit the post on the same shift in OT.
1st OT winner since 2 seasons ago, January 2021.
Crosby doesn’t seem interested in letting that happen again. With a three-point night today, Ovechkin passed Trottier in career points and now sits at #18 all-time.
Next up is Selanne, but he is 30 points away - well, Ovechkin can also always leapfrog Crosby for the umpteenth time.
It's a durability race at this point. Whoever has been healthier recently will come out ahead.Crosby doesn’t seem interested in letting that happen again.
Even as a Caps fan, I can love Ovi but respect Crosby's skills. I just consider myself lucky to have been able to watch these two elevate the game for almost two decades.Crosby doesn’t seem interested in letting that happen again.
I'm a Pens fan and at this point I'm thrilled with the level of hockey we've gotten to watch from them. Crazy they came in at the same time (Honorable mention to my underrated boy Geno as well).Even as a Caps fan, I can love Ovi but respect Crosby's skills. I just consider myself lucky to have been able to watch these two elevate the game for almost two decades.
