From Dubois himself on the radio Kent Hughes made no offer to Dubois
For sure! No doubt!

This is not thread worthy. It is not even newsworthy. Dubois was traded before he could become a Restricted Free Agent. Clubs can't make offers to a player who is under contract unless the club with his rights gives permission.

Hughes was clearly not able to make any offer to Dubois because Winnipeg did not give permission. Even LA did not get permission until AFTER Winnipeg had a potential trade in place that satisfied them.

Why would Winnipeg give permission in a situation where they had talks on an acceptable trade in work? Why would any of us think they would have done that ...... and that it was not highly covered at the time "Winnipeg gives Brisson permission to talk to other teams".

I hope this new thread is closed now, before it hits 1000 posts. There are plenty Dubois threads posters can bump for this non-news.

He also said there were no offers that he was aware of. Trade wise.

Yeah, who wants good players? Got to continue to suck for a few more years...
Why take the bait?

No kidding it was all media propaganda and fan delusion, smart move!
Oh please!!!!

If it was media-pushed, the media would have blasted the headlines that the Jets gave Montreal permission to talk to Dubois while under contract. They did not. The media did not fuel this idea that Hughes could make an offer to Dubois. It is delusion from a portion of the fan base who did not think it through.

Good, then Dubois is not a liar. Winnipeg was not opening its books to Dubois. They did not even give Dubois the permission to talk to LA until AFTER they had a deal ready to go.

There is absolutely no doubt Hughes explored a trade option with Winnipeg. He does so regularly for dozens and dozens of potential targets.

Përhaps no formal offer was made. For example, the Jets might have said "don't bother making any offer that does include Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle or Dach - plus. Seriously don't bother if you are not willing".

Dubois is not wrong. The Kings wanted him more. They were prepared to offer a good young player seen to have approximately Dach's value. In the end, there was no trade fit because Montreal only wanted to offer futures (but not the 5OA) or older players with bigger contracts but little upside, while Winnipeg wanted young players with upside who could help them continue to try compete.

Montreal
You have to trade for him first right? Why would he give him an offer if he realized the trade wasn't going to happen with Winnipeg?

Also Winnipeg needs to grant him permission to speak.

What type of malarkey is this?

Didn’t PLD himself say Montreal had internal cap that didn’t work for him? He must’ve known what Hughes was willing to do through his agent, which means Highes knew what PLD wanted. I D they weren’t close, why would Hughes bother to make an offer? In addition, Hughes wasn’t willing to pay the price to acquire him in addition to the price PLD wanted.

Big nothing burger of a comment.

Maybe if the team likes hearing mumbling and just think he's a nice guy.
Worst coach I've ever witnessed in the NHL tho...but ya maybe as an assistant he has some ideas.
He’s not the best communicator and dosen’t have the leadership/aura you want but he stays a really good hockey head and have a good read of the game on the bench. As an Assistant where he can used is strength, I do think he can be really useful

Yeah who wants maybe a ppg player for 8.5 mil? What an awful gm. Use some common sense! People on this board are unreal as he’s a bum for his price tag. A f***ing bum. We aren’t going to literally destroy the team and cap for a cry baby who is 100% selfish when we can just wait and sign someone better in the coming years. He’s a “let’s never win anything” guy

If makes sense because he first would have had to outbid L.A. for the Jets to give him permission to negotiate with Dubois. I couldn't see Hughes topping the L.A. offer. He would have had to have acquired a player better or equal to Vilardi from a 3rd team to even be in the running. Maybe flipped Newhook in a package or a player like that. But I would think the Jets would prefer Vilardi to Newhook.
