They still have firsts?))

They have the 24 and 26 first rounders left. Their 25th 1st has top 10 protection. 2nd rounders in all of 24, 25, 26 are gone.

I think they’ll buyout Murray after the Samsanov arbitration case gets settled before giving away a 1st round pick.

I heard of that idea too. Not sure how that part works on the Samsonov/Arbitration. Buyout hits for Murray would be $688k this season and $2M next. $2M is not a huge amount but they still might need that. Especially if they want both Matthews and Nylander to stay.

The other angle is do they head into this season with Nylander being a pending UFA? It's very possible they try to trade him for a younger piece (Dach or Vilardi type trade) and save the cap space that way.

Prospect pool is very thin and they have limited future draft picks available. Cap is going up but they got to pay Matthews. Tavares and Marner also need new contracts after the 24/25 season.

They're so screwed...I love it!

Ability to improve from what they have is not good at all. Salary cap issues and thin prospect pool.

It will be interesting to see where Tampa, Leafs, Bruins are in 3+ years.... When the Habs have Suzuki at age 26+ and Reinbacher at age 20+ with everyone else in between that. 6 year age spread and a core growing together.

I think you'll be surprised as soon as this year
I won't be surprised. I expect more rebuild/transition and we will move up the standings. When I say 3+ years, I'm talking about contending years, not playoff chase years like what the Sens/Sabres have tried over the last few seasons. We are going to leap frog them IMO.

It's pretty crazy to me that Yzerman passed on Dvorsky. He seemed like an Yzerman guy through and through. Even as someone who liked Danielson a lot I kinda don't get it. Must've been the skating.

I was a big fan of Yzerman but not so sure anymore. He's still decent but I'm not sure he ever turns that team into what he had with Tampa. Starting to believe that Brisebois was the one doing all the hard work.

The Oilers are 6th in the league in PO game wins in the last two years. They are third in wins over the last four years in the west.

If thats not being a contender I don't know what it is.
That's only one more win than Montreal has in the same time span.

edit: can't type

They almost hit on the right formula this year IMO. Crap any goalie with a .910 save percentage gets them past Vegas.

No, thats a full 14 more wins than the Habs have over the last two years... ? And 63 more in the regular season over the last four years.

They lost due to horrible luck with Skinner who faltered out of nowhere and they also matched against a very strong team. To say they're not succesful is pretty dumb.

That’s gotta be followed by a @sheed36 rim shot.
