Tatar is a proven Ghost in playoffs. If he was not he would have been signed on the first day. Drouin stats in playoffs are actually not that bad. They are not great not terrible. Tatar stats in playoffs are straight out terrible. It's a gamble because of Drouin's mental health issues mostly if he was able to deal with NHL pressure he would be an okay player imo.

Tatar playoffs

52GP 7G 13P

Drouin playoffs

33GP 6G 21P
Over 52GP : 9.45GG 33.09P
This is why cliches about playoff performances mean very little when talking about secondary scorers.

Drouin and Tatar are both middle 6 wingers who are going to have worse stats against better teams in the playoffs. You aren't signing either of them to be your playoff MVP but at least Tatar is reliable depth for getting you there.

The obsession with "playoff winners" from the fans of a team that isn't close to making the playoffs is always very funny.

Whatever the reason, that’s bad.

You would think there would be a discussion as to why it’s being declined. How does one “assume” anything when it comes to your best prospect?

I mean maybe that is the reasoning, but the communication makes it look as though Briere has no clue what’s going on.

I think it's founded. The Habs could make the playoffs in 2024, and anyway playoff warriors might have more trade value.

I don’t care what anyone says, playoffs are different enough from the regular season and there is definitely players who perform better there due to their style or character.

That’s not to say that sample size and luck doesn’t become a factor in how some players are branded, but there’s a difference. Absolutely.

It is kinda funny to imagine what the reaction would have been like on here if we had the Flyers offseason, pretty much everything but the Michkov pick would have been a five alarm fire on here.

Trading a broken-down Edmudnson after two major back injuries for a 3rd was somehow controversial, could you imagine if we retained half (almost 3.6M) on Kevin Hayes for 3 more years only to get a 6th round pick in return? Or if we traded Provorov and ate Cal Petersen's money and only got a 22OA and a couple 2nds, and then had this Cutter Gauthier thing happen too while leaving Jiricek on the board?

Yeah, there's an argument for certain guys that were unfairly branded playoff chokers simply due to circumstance (eg Pacioretty, couldn't produce as the #1 guy in Montreal, had zero trouble producing as the #3-4 guy in Vegas), but with Tatar at this point he has 13 career points in 52 career playoff games. That's across four different teams who all used him as a pretty major part of their regular season lineups only to scratch him or push him down the lineup in the playoffs, I'd say it's warranted by now.

Not really, because we're talking about it on behalf of other teams here, not the Habs. We didn't sign Tatar because we don't really have room for him anyway. If we didn't have Armia, Gallagher, Hoffman, Dvorak, and Anderson around I think the Habs would absolutely have thrown a 1x3M at him or something, but right now there's just not really much point in adding to the logjam for the sake of maybe getting a 3rd for Tatar at the deadline (doubt he would be worth much at this point given his reputation in the playoffs).

It's plausible we might pick him up later given we have about 10M in space with only Newhook left to sign and he'd easily be in our top 6 on merit, but Tatar is likely still hoping he can sign with a playoff team if he's considering cheap or 1yr contracts anyway.

Brière doesn't seem to have the smoothest start to his non-interim GM stint...

I hope he at least gets along well with Torts

The part that gets me here is that Briere says "we assume." It's like Gauthier declined the invitation but didn't give them a reason.

At least Hughes knew why Farrell wasn't at the development camp and when asked, gave the reason.
That’s the biggesg problem. That he declined but haven’t said the reason lol
