If you're Jonathan Toews and feel healthier around the draft, don't you look at the chance of playing a few more years in a depth role with a contender? To have a few more kicks at the can.
One year with Oilers, Rangers, Florida or maybe Los Angeles?
To come in fresh, freed from all the history, responsibilities and expectations in Chicago, joining a youngish team and try and guiding them, helping them over the hump without having to be THAT guy.
I'd be thrilled to join Oilers as a 3C playing behind McDrai.
But I'm not Toews, I don't fight post-covid, I wouldn't have to move to Edmonton.

Yup. Hughes insisted on Matheson. And Hextall initially didn't want to trade him. But he eventually gave in.

Imagine being the team that is looking to trade 34 year old Petry with another 3 years left at over $6M and you're still the ones negotiating from a position of strength.
