Plus I don't even think Shero is back in the country yet. So unless Lou is doing the lifting here it's doubtful Shero even bothered.

My main point is we could sell a future to this guy. It's different from Buffalo but you sell we are still a defend factory with a top 5 goalie. Great cap situation to fix the forwards.

From what I gathered in that piece, Babcock and Holland are also at the World Championships so it's conceivable they could have talked with Shero there.

seems like all signs point back to Detroit, doesn't it?

I mean he wasn't exactly talking like a guy prepared to leave....but by the same token this is going to look like much ado about nothing if he does stay after all the speculation and the whole 'FA window' where he talked to other teams.

Would just mean it was about the money and squeezing every dime out of Detroit he could.

That wouldn't surprise me. Detroit can afford to pay top dollar for Babcock (which is why I always found it funny when media portrayed it as if Babcock would have to go to some place like Toronto to get a big bag of money), but in order to get something like double what JQ makes in Chicago, he'd have to create some sort of competition for his services. Manipulating supply and demand as a negotiation tactic to bring about a favorable contract in a nutshell.

Yeah it is possible this is just Babcock pulling an Elias from 2006...I guess we'll find out soon enough judging by his timetable (and the Wings supposedly put a deadline on it too, cause they want the compensation if he's going to leave).

To me that was just Holland covering his ass, and playing a little hardball back.

Outside of the mountain of money, Buffalo and Toronto aren't really special or promising destinations. Leafs still look rudderless, and Buffalo is all promise with not a thing proven.

At least in Detroit you have proven players and a extremely proven GM.

It's not really any different than any UFA wanting to test free agency. You never what kind of offer might shake loose. If nothing blows him away, he goes back to where he was before and gets paid really damn well to do it. And he helps drive the market for what future coaches will get paid as well.

A TSN interview with Babcock and Holland side-by-side:

http://www.tsn.ca/video/babcock-discusses-coaching-future-1.284054

According to Babcock he will make a decision in the next few days (from about 7:30 on in the clip), which would seemingly rule out teams that still have a coach like Boston.

Not available in your geo region but the add certainly was. *******s.

Edit: im a pessimist right now with everything about the devils. Just so my feelings wont get hurt. :(

Babcock wont come here.

McLellan's future expected to be finalized this week. Still some teams sniffing around, but the Oilers expected to formally hire him....

Pete DeBoer was also on Edmtn's radar. It's believed the Sharks want a second interview with DeBoer. Bylsma, Carlyle and Dave Lowry in mix

Babcock and Holland in the air now returning to Det. Plan was to talk on the flight, meet again tomorrow and make a decision by mid-week...

Still think Pete is the likely candidate for Philly. Seeing how often his name pops up is a pretty good indication of how well respected he still is.
