Media coverage of the team for the most part is piss poor. Straight up ignorance in most cases. People in Canada just don't really understand soccer.

In same ways yes but in many ways no.

Montreal could win the CONCACAF champions league in front of an audience of 60k (40k last time I checked and the match is two weeks away).

We just need reporters that can just Wikipedia the team for 30 seconds before they write so so article.

Ridiculous reffing right there. the guys was 5 feet offside and they still allowed that goal. 5 minutes later, the linesman missed another ball that when over the line and they almost scored of a header a second after.

That linesman should be fired after the game. I understand when it's a close call but 5 feet offside! how do you even miss that? Just awful.

It was actually a lot closer than that. When in on a two-on-0, he merely had to be in line with his teammate, which he actually was (I watched that play on PVR roughly twenty times with my buddy).

Tickets start at 17$, for a non mls team... Good job making this franchise irrelevant to me

:shakehead case in point for people who don't understand international soccer. Back to cheering for Chelsea from your couch! Because they're the ones that win right. Seriously though, this is high quality pro soccer and get's Ottawa into the international soccer scene. If we keep winning we WILL be playing MLS teams and more.

Anyways it's Home Opener day! Dry your tears over the Sens loss with a (hopefully) stellar showing from the lads. De Guzman is back in and maybe Ryan as well.

Pretty pumped for this one, especially given the news Minny will be moving up to MLS in a few years. Would love to give it to them good before they get promoted.

I checked at Rogers to make sure the game was on and discovered that they are also broadcasting the out of town games not just the home games like last year.

Good news though I was annoyed I didn't know that before the first couple of games.
I really enjoy that Scotsman they have doing colour.

Was at the game and it was a beauty. I absolutely loved every second of it. Crowd was fantastic and it looks like the supporter's groups have grown hugely.

Gotta get Ryan on the back of my jersey. :handclap:

First game i really saw Heinnemann winning headers controlling ball on the ground and not falling over, he had a good game today.

Agreed, it was fun afternoon. What happened to the guy who was rolling around in the Minnesota box just after the Heinnemann goal, clutching his face? I missed whatever happened to him and it looked bad at first, but then he seemed to be ok.

Good performance from Fury FC today, easily their best thus far in the young season.

Really poor game from Minny though - for one of the league favourites with arguably the best roster in the league, they didn't show much. Peiser only had to make one real tough save.

Kind of sucks that what will likely be the team's most important game against Edmonton in the cup on Wednesday is during the Sens playoff game, meaning a crowd of 1000-1500 in bad weather likely. But, the players and the diehards will know how important the game is!

Serious question as I dont even think about NASL, when can Ottawa get promoted to MLS? Is it possible within the next 5 years?

No not really I think its far more likely you wills see Montreal drop down to the Nasl.

Anything is possible with money and strong attendance. Montreal and Vancouver both played in the current NASL before moving up to the MLS after buying franchises.

But why does it matter? Top flight doesn't have the same meaning in soccer as it does in hockey or whatever else in North American sports. A tier 2 team can still play its way into top level competition with good play. If we beat out Edmonton this Wednesday we'll have a great chance to play an MLS side (Vancouver Whitecaps) and more. This isn't the AHL bud.

Personally I don't want the Fury anywhere near MLS. It's a ridiculous bastardization of what pro soccer should be imo (controlled single entity league, salary caps, managed player movements, closed system) and on top is a total NFL style try-hard. NASL is much, MUCH closer to what you would get in Europe structurally and culturally (though admittedly not in terms of skill level).

Get educated:

There is no promotion from NASL to MLS. The only way to get into MLS is to get a MLS franchise which is what Minnesota United have done and will move to MLS from NASL in 2018 (i think). I very much doubt that any other Canadian cities will get into MLS as they cant afford the MLS franchise fee.
I very much doubt Montreal will come down to NASL.

There is real concern if Montreal can last at the Mls level very low season tickets and attendance over all is not where it needs to be.

There's only concern because the team's majority owner has decided to redirect the majority of his disposable income into a sinkhole team over in Italy. lol.

I know SMR sold over 60 tickets for the supporters section. Don't expect that to be a regular occurrence but they are growing. Wednesday will be tough there will not be many of us.

I really wish they would mic the supporters section. The chants can't possibly be heard all the way on the other side. You see it all the time when they do the stand up chant and only the few sections beside them actually stand.

Some people in Montreal are already blaming the location of the stadium, but I'll never understand that given that the Metro almost literally goes right to the door. It's is dead easy to get to and from the games.

Sure, it's nice having a stadium in a commercial district (like we have here in Ottawa) where you can walk to bars and restaurants before and after the game, but their transportation set up couldn't be better. Hockey fans going to the Canadian Tire Centre can only dream of what Impact fans have.
