Hope you guys are loving Sam Mayer. Such a stud out there.
Yes he is, and nice to have a local kid back. Really adds another dimension to our D. Also permits Mews/Marelli to have better match ups and they are playing much better. That Mayer/Mews pairing on the pp has very good early returns.

what do you mean ?

Hunter Brzustewicz is likely the best D-Man in the league.

Guys like Punnett, Parekh, Dickinson, Bonk, Nelson, and Donovan would all likely be placed ahead of Mayer. I’m sure some of the scout types would likely list even a few more.

Mayer is a really good D-Man. Offensively, he is impactful. He’s a big body. Moves the puck really well. He also is a great fit for the 67’s with respect to wha their needs are. he is a better fr than some of the D-Men i have listed. But, to suggest he is the best D-Man in the league would be a stretch.

The 67’s are happy to have Mayer. HE is a great fit for the team. HE came at relatively decent trade value. Much better than Donovan, for example but much more than Punnett. So, if all things were equal, I easily prefer Punnett at a 3rd, 6th and an extra OA body. We didn’t have that OA D-Man available to add to the deal though.

Whether or not he is the best means very little to me. He offers stability and a veteran presence on a defence corps that has been struggling of late. Boyd traded to upgrade his leadership in all areas of the ice. Lawrence was effective, but the team needed players like Mayer, Maillet, and Kressler.

Responding to the OP saying that Mayer was the best in the league…..

Has Korbler played a shift yet today? Looks like Stoney has been double shifting with Whitehead and Horner.

We’re down 1-0 but good road period against a really good team. Night and day difference in strength on the puck and puck support compared to last weekend.

Tough one today playing a third game in three days on the road, this time against a first place team. Boys look better, though, than they did before the trades. Four points off a three game roadie is pretty good. Let's see how this group gels as they get to know each other...

No complaints about this one despite the loss, the team showed a good push back and carried the play in the 3rd for the most part. Third end of a three and three vs. the league’s top team.

Let’s hope Kressler is OK.

Unfortunate result today. It is funny how it works now and then. We get two undeserved points on friday and lose out on points today.

This was a complete return to what we saw last year and through the first 6-8 weeks this season. Hard on the forecheck. Forcing a lot of turnovers along the offensive blueline. Picking pockets.

They missed the net a lot in the first period. Looked like they were going high a lot and missed high.

A bit of an ugly uncalled crosscheck from behind on Kressler. Probably suspension worthy. If that penalty gets called, this is a different outcome.

This, I watched and I noticed a lot of really great scoring chances of the glass and out.

67s players still getting used to having the puck on their stick in prime scoring areas. It’s been a dry first half offensively. Maybe rushing their shots or getting too cute trying to pick corners.

Mayer is probably the best all around D of the league
To me, Matthew Andonovski is the best defenceman in the OHL by a wide margin so this year.

- Stonehouse looked much better today. We're seeing more zip and hustle less shenanigans and more production.
- Foster too. I like his game, just needs to focus when shooting. Maybe he's better at the draw then Gardiner?
- We held the OHL's top team even-score deep into the 3rd. And outshot them by a bit. On the tail-end of a 3-in-3. A very good weekend I'd say.
- Now, the hit on Kressler. It was a cross-check from behind on a player in a vulnerable position; his head bounced off the dashboard. This had better be reviewed.

I counted a least 12 clear shots towards the net (which we missed). It was probably more...The shot count was not indicative of how many more chances Ottawa had.

Any time you get 4 out of 6 on this swing it is a good weekend. We beat the team we needed to beat and held one of the top teams to a 1 goal win (open net really do not count in my books)
