I would be extremely surprised if you found any Kingston fan that knows anything about hockey that thought that he didn't deserve to be suspended.

That said - this is no where near a fair representation - there were 3-4 gloved shots to a turtled General (hands covering the back of his head), so the actual impact wasn't that bad. The intent was there so I've got no issue with the 4 games.

I was a little surprised they called it fighting with no gloves off, if anything it seemed more like a 5 minute roughing major, but either way - it was called fighting so it was his 3rd fight of the year so he got an extra 2 on top of the 4 for the incident.
LOL.

You literally followed up with a “yeah, but….”

Oh yeah I'm very aware of the irony - I'm not arguing the suspension (maybe the 2 games for calling it a fight but meh).

But yeah - I had to get my justification in there lol.

No "Yeah, but" in this comment - this is a "but yeah" - very different...

I know. I am just messing with ya. I just thought it was funny that you tried to lessen the impact of the statement which is why I added the original post in jest. If I had posted that on the Kingston board, I’d have had at least three people try to lighten the incident with some sort of justification etc.

I know you mean well and agree with the suspension. It was the original comment about the off ice assault etc that I was more pointing to.

No reason for Schmidt to have done that obviously. However if it was bare knuckle to the back of the head rather than the glove I would’ve expected well over 4. Maybe even kicked out of the league. I think him keeping the gloves on softened the punishment a bit.

Even with the gloves on though you can still really hurt someone and f up their career by punching them in the back of the head (like Todd bertuzzi punching Steve Moore)

I think the suspension is 10 games For the punches while down.

If that's what guys are getting 6 games for these days the league has gotten really soft.

Sorry. I should have qualified that comment. It is when two players are engaged in a fight and the person that ends up on top on the ice keeps punching to the head when the other player is defenseless. In that situation, it is usually 10 games.

That can extend to a combatant without gloves hitting a non-combatant while on the ice as well.

In this case, the player had gloves on. That seems to be a factor that was taken into account that differentiates the two scenario’s.

I am not a fan of continuing the fight once one player is unable to defend themselves, whether that is on the ice or whether an official holds up one player without the other player being held back.

He finished his check and roughed him up a little when he was on the ice. Lockhart then gets up and has more to say. Kick him out of a 5-0 game so it doesn't escalate, but beyond that it was a pretty harmless play. Lockhart didn't even leave the ice on the play.

I expect a good, competitive game vs. Saginaw this evening. It will be interesting to see if Kressler plays (I believe he will, but don't hold me to it). The team has looked significantly better across the board since the trade deadline and the return of Foster, so I'd like to see them keep the momentum going against a strong team in Saginaw.

The only player we have out now is Dever...anyone have a timeline on his return? All things being equal, when he does return I'd like to see him replace Korbler in the lineup. Horner has been a really solid contributor since his move to the wing and ideally Cameron would keep that physical element up front.

Ah hockey in town!
After another week of practice and testing, some Questions this weekend:
- will Foster remain at centre, Gardiner on his wing?
- will Mews/Marelli reprise their role as 5/6th defence?
- can the boys maintain their stellar face-off wins and even improve?
- where does Dever fit in?
- can they show some killer instinct and stomp on the neck of weaker opponents i.e. OwSnd?

There's a faint whiff of playoffs in the air....

Their game with Saginaw is on NHL Network, a rare non-Memorial Cup CHL game available in the States (without taking efforts)

It's on Onhockey
yeah you can find just (almost) every CHL game via onhockey, but I mean I more... non-frowned upon way with a basic cable + sports add-on package. Would be great if ESPN+ would add it, as they've added a bunch of NCAA Hockey recently

Despite the score advantage Saggy. Very good hockey team. Mac played great. We did play better and adapted to the pace in the second half of the period.. Not many teams in this league can outpace us like they did in the first 10. On the positive side we do want Saggy to come out of the west, looks like they have the team to do it.

67’s sat back and played not to get scored against The first 12 minutes or so. Then they picked up the pace and started to push the play a bit more.

MacKenzie showing why he is one of the best in the league… if not THE best.

An exciting game. Saginaw is fast and smart with the puck. Ottawa has their counter-punch going but MacKenzie is starring right now as expected.
if you challenge a goal, and lose the challenge, is it not a penalty against? Maybe it's different in the bigs...

Interesting strategy from the 67's in the third. They're trying to tire out the top Saggy players by keeping them on the ice with penalty after penalty. Go Dave!

Too many penalties you can not win if you are shorthanded all period.

Saginaw showed what most road game teams do. They threw tight in the first, got their legs, and that was it.

Was puck possession so lopsided we could not get shops

BTW I would not say OS is bad they just shut out kingston
