End of 2nd:
- Mack continues to hold the fort, but the boys really played well in this period
- Horner and Gardiner and (Kelly?) are a strong combination. Horner is really feisty
- haven't seen any of Korbler/Hilton/Whitehead this period
- Mailllet is ~9/13 in faceoffs. What a difference winning the draw makes. We were barely hemmed in our zone all period.
- Sirman and Mayer seem to work well together.

It’s Barlas with Gardiner and Horner.

If anything, we are now really good on the faceoff circle. Good for a puck possession team.

Good effort, this is gonna be a solid team with Foster and Dever back. 3 thoughts
1- man isn't it good not only to win but to expect to win faceoffs? Thank you mr Maillet and mr Kressler
2 - Mac did give up five ( but no softies) but looked healthy and comfy out there, that is huge for us.
3 Sirman looking like a true top 4 out there, been waiting to say this but I believe he's arrived

Any points we get this weekend with a new lineup ( in fairness like a lot of teams) and against 3 tough foes is a bonus.

Still nothing from Kelly, Hilton, Korbler I don’t think they had a shift in the 3rd period. Going to be very much relying on 3 lines, I thought it was sloppy tonight can’t expect to score 6 every night to win have to tighten up

Yes you are right, sloppy, but expected with new players. Foster will make a difference tomorrow. However the nice thing tonight is we did not struggle to score, it's been our achille's heel. Sometimes you have to win 6-5 ! Forgot on my last post but kudos to Barlas, he's turning in a solid player, his skating seems much better since he came back from injury..why...dunno.

NHL Central Scouting mid-term rankings are out.

The 67’s have three on the North American Skater list:
#27 - Mews
#100 - Marrelli
#127 - Hilton

that definitely puts Mews into the 2nd round. Marrelli will likely go around the 6th round and Hilton goes undrafted.

Things obviously change and this really is only a status report but it shows how Mews has not quite lived up to expectations this year. Hopefully he can have a better second half and rise into the 1st round.
Considering the number of 18 year old North American kids that play hockey and teh abuse that Hilton gets on here I think the fact that he even made the top 130 in NA is pretty good. It shows that he is on the scouting radar in a positive stance.

CONGRATULATIONS

Where are all those people that told me at the beginning of the year that faceoffs did not matter?

I don’t feel the 67’s should have gotten a point tonight. They were outplayed for a good portion of the first and third periods.

I think they struggled heavily because of the ice. I think it was crazy soft. You could see how often they over skated the puck, fumbled with it like it was hard to drag and a bunch of players on both teams loosing edges all night.

The ice dimensions are 190x85 with really shallow corners which reduces the ice size significantly. They had a horrible time getting through the very narrow neutral zone.

So, even though I feel they were outplayed, I am going to chalk this one up to home ice advantage on behalf of Brantford. I now know why thy only have 4 regulation losses there this year. It is a very tough rink to play in.

Tomorrow will be a better measuring stick for this crew. Unfortunately, I will miss that game…ugh…

I've always thought that a tie is a perfectly acceptable game result. It usually reflects accurately the play of the two teams. But, hey, call me a rebel.

It was more organized last night. The new overagers had an impact on the game and that should get better. However, the shorthanded goal against in the last minute was terrible. We have forwards who still try to stickhandle out of the zone when there is an empty net. No excuse for turning over the puck playing Novice-level hockey (Me-Puck-Net). That nearly cost us the win.

Anybody have any insight as to why Hilton is getting no icetime. I know he apparently battled illness for a while but recently even when dressed he doesn't see the ice. I thought he played ok earlier in the year so I wonder. If you are not gonna play him, send him down imo.

Posted lines have Foster lining up at Centre…. Gardiner on his wing. Odd.

What a difference a week makes. Our most dominant period in a long time...man looking good out there.

6-2 Ottawa end of second. Thoughts:

- Owen Sound is likely just not so good.
- Our d-pairings in order: Mayer-Sirman, Mayich-Smith, Mews-Marelli. It seems when Cameron wants to win he puts the 17 year olds as #5-6d. A demotion or just a reversion to a more natural order?
- the powerplay features all the overagers plus Mews and Pinelli. It's working.
- Foster as centre, Gardiner as his winger. Odd, but it seems to work so far. I can't help but think this is a demotion of sorts for Gardiner; he hasn't been on any important face-offs either.

Ottawa wins 6-4 in a way I haven't seen since last year. We just score, and then defend.
- Michelone looked OK. Don't know what to expect except decency.
- Even when Dever is ready to return, Horner should stay in. He brings a level of physicality no one else does. And I like the guy.
- 2 wins in 2 games against the West. Before I get too excited, it's the big Kahuna of Kitchener tomorrow. If Ottawa can play even with them tomorrow, I think we've got an exciting team to cheeer for.

Agree about Horner. The added toughness up front on the 4th line is helping.
He doesn't back down to anyone, hits the opposing Dmen hard, and keeps his cool when needed.

Powerplay looks way more dynamic. Should be way more effective for the second half and that in itself will contribute to better scoring.

I think this weekend is all about team building and finding lines and pairings that work. I also think that he is probably resting people as has been said playing Kitchener at the end of a 3 game road trip is murder.

I do want to highlight two players that have impressed me recently. One is Sirman. I only saw him as a good depth guy but he's emerging as a very solid dare I say it top four guy. Maybe it's because he didn't play D much last year but he's making our D much better and deeper. Makes Smyth our 6th D which is the role he should have imo.
The other is Barlas. Really finally coming out of his shell. All of a sudden his shot and skating are much improved and he's a legit top 9 guy. Once Dever returns with the emergence of those two and the 3 acquisitions we have a pretty deep group. This will permit us to play with pace the whole game which is hard for other teams to handle.

In their rookie year, I felt Sirman played better and showed more than Mayich. For some reason, Mayich ended up beside Matier and it just clicked which gave Mayich the leg up. Sirman ended up on forward because of depth issues. No his fault at all.

What we are seeing form him now is a level of maturity that we likely would have seen developing last year had he had an opportunity but the team was simply too deep.

It is too early to say but if the 67’s do feel they are sellers next year, I think it is very possible they keep him as an OA and move Mayich early. They may be able to get more for Mayich at the deadline but we may be just as good with Sirman and the net positive would be there.
