That guys a pretty good player. I was wondering if he was going to be the guy.

He’s likely a first rounder next week.
Could very well be a top-10 pick.

There are lots of speculation being done that the Ottawa Senators could take him at their pick at #7 overall - we all know how connected the 67's and Senators are.

Either way I'm sure they did their homework. Would be shocked of he's not there in Sept. Otherwise they would not have traded Gaidamack. Glad they took a guy who's 18 next year, should be able to contribute right away. The Austrian connection strikes again.

If Kasper comes over - he'll be your first line.

Side note - 67's are looking real nice next season!

This lineup also leaves room for an OA acquisition at the deadline. Most likely get a second/third line center or if unavailable a top 6 winger and move Rohrer back to the middle. My plan is to play Barlas/Foster so they get experience until the deadline and then upgrade as I don't see us as a true contender with one of them the third line pivot this year. Also if the stars lineup and we are true contenders a puck moving D would be a need unless Sirman fits the part ( not counting on Mews this year).

I’m thinking they have a commitment from Kaspar but only if the NHL team that drafts him agrees he plays in the OHL. They could very well have an agreement with the Senators but so much can happen between now and the 7th. Who knows what will happen. Regardless, when they pick like this, I highly doubt this is a lock 100%. I figure it is at best 70%. But, if you want to win, sometimes you have to swing for the fences. This is what that is.

I know they have a lot of bodies on defence but I can seriously see them add a puck mover as an OA D-Man. If Kaspar works out, add in Olnai and Rohrer as the other two centres and they are fine down the middle. They have the depth on the wings. The one element missing is that prototypical Hoffenmayer type PP QB scoring D-Man. Maybe the OA spot is how they get it.

Keep in mind that what I am saying depends on how “all in” this team is this year. If they go down that road, it isn’t about the picks and assets they trade to get there, it is about the player development time they sacrifice becuase the young guys aren’t going to play much at all if that is the direction.

I think you are right that eventually, he may be our first-line center but I think to start the season you will see him as either a 2a 2b center until he gets used to the OHL.

The other unknown that could cause him to be a 1a 1b is Rohreer and what the NHL team that drafts him wants to see. Last year he played as a winger and a center and was good as a center.
If as was suggested the Sens draft him then he will definitely be given a chance to play with Boucher as that is what the Sens would love to have 2/3 of a line playing together already.

Kasper is a significantly more valuable prospect than Rohrer. I think you are underestimating how good a player Kasper is.

We could discuss the 1A 1b but only because we’d maybe disagree who the first line wingers are because of the depth!

It would take him a little time to adjust to North American ice but his wingers wouldn’t change. He’s just adjust as he goes along and his line will just get progressively better.

I’d be shocked if he didn’t score 80 points as a rookie. Shocked.

Are we going to see Rohrer at centre? If we do, we’d have the top 3 set.

The question would then become what would we look like on the wings?

Beck
Boucher
Pinelli
Stonehouse
Guerrior
TJ

If Rohrer slides to wing, one of those guys doesn’t play top 9.

I prefer Rohrer on the wing but he did play well at centre so I am more open to the idea of him playing centre than I was previously.

I also liked Cooper Foster quite a bit. Gardiner was also decent. I think he may be the rookie that is poised to have the big jump from meaningless minutes and no production to being a bit more of a force as a 17 year old. He’s most definitely going to grow a bit and if he packs on a bit of weight, he could be a different player. I like the way he plays the game.

Then we have that additional OA spot. I know some would suggest TJ is likely to be the odd man out but I really want to see him for a couple months healthy to start the year before I endorse that potential plan. So, who’s job does the 3rd OA take? TJ? Dunno. I hope not but someone is on the outside looking in for sure. I think we may add another OA D-Man but so many bodies already back there.

The unknown in all of this is Barlas. does he come back with a chip on his shoulder, healthy and meaner with the goal that e is going to show he deserves to be a center? If so then Rohrer to the wing.

If not then until we can get a 3rd center he gets the nod.
If the sens draft Kaspar I again think that we will see him teamed with Boucher.
Perfect for an NHL team to have their 2 studs play junior together get that bond then move up to the NHL.

The OA question n is interesting in that it is possible that with the players we have that they could stand up and be counted and we do not need the 3rd OA.

Although I agree it would be good to play Kaspar and Boucher together for those reasons, it almost never translates to The NHL level. They will never force a square peg into a round hole. It is not about developing two players together. They will do what is best to develop the players individually. If that means playing on different lines then so be it.

Shouldn't we wait until after the NHL draft? So much energy on something that likely never materializes.

My point stands for all players in general. We’ve seen many times in the past, especially with the 67s and the SJ Sharks where multiple prospects playing on the same junior team don’t play on the same line etc.

The advantage for the Senators, in this case, would be knowledge of the existing coaching staff and consistency in development. So it would be more the team rather than the line mates that is important.

Okay devils advocate time.

Unless things changed or deals has been made Kaspar is not going to see a 67 jersey until after about mid October

He will first get ice time with the NHL team. Then he will have the option of playing in the AHL.and will probably get ice time
Then he will get ice time with the national team

Opening night
Beck-Tolnai-Boucher
Pinelli-Rohrer = Stonehouse
Johnston-Barlas-Gerrior
Gardiner-Foster-Mews(?)

A quick question How does Kingston draft a Belarusan (russian) player that played in Sherbrooke last year

Kasper projects as being picked anywhere from 10-25 so although he will go to training camp it's unlikely he gets any games this year. So will be AHL, 67's or a return to sweden. So if the player/nhl club decides OHL is best for his development he should be there quite early in the season.

Glad you mentioned Gardiner as I agree he could be a sleeper. Didn't play much last year but sometimes he'd do things that made me go...ummm that kid has talent so he could surprise. His hockey sense seemed quite high imo. Made me think of a young Hoelscher for some reason. As for Foster I'm really looking forward to what he can do after a good year of development where he got a ton of icetime. Hopefully he develops along the lines of Quinn.

Two other players I'm really looking forward to watch this year are Gerrior and Sirman. As you all know I became quite a fan of Gerrior last year. Loved his skating, energy, compete level and his offensive game turned around in the second half. Wondering if his offense will take enough of a jump to become a top 6 as a 19 y.o. or if he reaches a ceiling as a quality third liner that kills pk. I'm ok with both scenarios as you need those depth players with different skill sets but I think he might show another gear offensively.
As for Sirman I loved his puck handling , passing and edges last year. Showed good abilities as a pp quarterback too. Can he take the next step and become that puck moving D?? One thing he needs to improve is his shot though. Geez already excited for next year.

I admit that you called Gereior while I was more skeptical. I’m not sure he will develop into a significant scorer but he plays a strong overall game that easily could translate into a 2nd line winger role because of where his hustle ceiling is. Teams need solid up and down wingers to complement scoring lines and I can at least see him in that role.

I also like Sirman. I like him enough that I have suggested it makes absolutely no sense to play Mews on defence this season because he is the most likely candidate to move to forward to make room on the blue line for Mews. Can he QB the power play? That’s where we disagree. I don’t see him as that guy. I see him as a hard nosed guy with the ability to slap the opposition around while also moving the puck very well. To me he is a more offence from his own zone kid of guy rather than an offence from the O-zone kind of guy.

We have a lot of players that are “sort of” this or “sort of” that. That is my concern. It could go either way. We could have some kids that really jump forward and prove their potential. Some others, maybe not. Example of not moving forward is Sawyer. I think we all expected more. And example of stepping up and proving their potential would be Beck. Hopefully we have a lot of Beck’s this year….

Okay crystal ball time folks

Who gets drafted first Moldenhauer or Rohrer

I see them as 3rd round

If you were MOldenhaier's parents and he is a mid to late-round pick do you go the university route
