Whichever team wins an OHL Championship wins the buyer side

Although that may be true if you want to look at it that way, a teams ability to rebound the next year and years after makes a huge difference. Peterborough is going to be a mess next year. Not sure about Sarnia but at first glance they may be a mess as well.

Gotta eat some crow today. I really didn't think Ottawa would do too much before the deadline. JB's moves are fantastic. All these trades for picks only and holding on to Niagara's second this year is brilliant. That pick will be an early pick and potentially a really good player. I think we may move one of Sirman or Ewles today as well. I also have a feeling there could be a summer trade with Saginaw to recoup some of those picks back, sending a body for their Memorial Cup run next year.

This may OBVIOUSLY not age well, but the 67’s could go into the draft this April and still pick some great players with what they have left For 2023. The Niagara pick int he 2nd round will likely be somewhere between 22-25. Two 3rds and two 4ths are great because we will probably hit on two of those four picks.

at this point, we could end up completing another trade and some of those picks may be used but if not, we should have a great 2023 draft to help moving forward.

I don’t want to get too far ahead but if we look at the ‘04 crop which is the most likely to be moved next season (or earlier), we do have some decent pieces. Not a lot at the high end side though.

Forwards:
Rohrer
Stonehouse
Gerrior

Defence:
Smyth
Sirman
Mayich

Goalie:
MacKenzie

Overage players that could be moved:
Donoso
Beck - unlikely to return but still unsigned with Calgary. Playing with Morrison, I think his stock will rise again provided he stays healthy.

Clearly Rohrer will not return as an OA the following season but it is likely all six of the others would. That means we’d have some two year players to trade.

Oh make no mistake. Sarnia will undoubtedly be a mess for years after this. Gaudreau, Del Mastro, Del Bel Belluz, Voit, Pastujov, Mast, Ritchie, Limpar-Lantz, Burke, Dillingham and Kyrou all gone and possibly Vilmanis. 11-12 guys gone and we traded away our future in Martone, MacDonnell, Daviault and Namestnikov.

I'll agree with you OMG67....67's GM won the buyer market without having to give up your complete future, Sarnia did and they will pay for it dearly for the next 4-5 years and possibly longer if they can't restock a completely BARE draft pick cupboard.

We will call it confirmed then. I hadn’t taken a close enough look at the roster to say it. I did look at Peterborough though. Gonna be a rough ride next year for them. They will likely have Beck and Lockhart (OA) to deal at the deadline though. They will make out ok with those two guys. Next year in the standings will be tough though.

Let’s see if Barrie can make some deals today with their picks.
Barrie has been very quiet since acquiring Tyler Savard.

My wife and I are old-style fans. We've been STH for 46 years and we cheer for the guys who put on the jerseys. We also boo the other guy and the zebras. It's a simple system, but it works.

A couple of years back, I thought we had a real Cup shot, but another team made the deals that beat us out. C'est la vie.

Mintyukov seems a solid pickup and should make the end of this year very interesting, no matter how it turns out.

YUP. A lot of good teams this season. It will be a tough road. The first round will be a joke but after that it will be tough. I don’t think we will see Ottawa chew through the East the way they did in 2019 Going 14-0 to start the playoffs.

Regardless of me messing around with the Memorial Cup tickets reference, there are some venerable teams that need to be respected. A lot of teams got really good over this deadline.

I look at Ottawa and see an .800win% team get way better with two players. I think we gotta chance! Let’s hope for some good fortune with player health.

I did!

……In Kingston.

I will get to a few more games out of town. If they make the Memorial Cup, I may make the trek out to Kamloops if it is convenient with work.

I’ve been a 67’s fan since around 1994. I grew up in Whitby so I was a Generals fan as a kid thorough 1990 when I came to Ottawa. I say this in reference To the following…

The reason why i am excited is because the 67’s over my time period as a fan have not ever made deadline deals like these. We’ve all wanted them to over the years. They never did. In 2019, they added DiPietro, Maksimovich and Chiodo. That was really good but we had a strong goalie in Andree. Maksimovich was a really solid OA but wasn’t a serious impact player the same way as Morrison. Chiodo was fine as well but more of a point per game small forward.

For the 67’s to go out and snag two players of this calibre speaks loudly. For the first time as a 67’s fan in almost 30 years, I can confidently say, GREAT DEADLINE... and it’s not over yet!

Wow, go James awesome job while maintaining a great core for the next two years.. Don't know why but I think we'll be adding another middle 6 forward...we can easily use a third/4th in 23 to do so. If we add an import, first rounder and Niagara's second rounder next year we have no space so may as well get another guy in case of injury imo. Just a feeling JB is not done.

The challenge next year is with so many teams participating in the Sellers market this season, it sets up a buyers market next season when so many teams are trying to recoup picks/players.

I like the Beck deal from the perspective that Peterborough can recoup assets but it is highly unlikely they recoup a comparable player to JVV. I don’t think the market will support that type of a return. They will get a good player and picks but probably not the calibre player they gave up.

I’m not saying Sarnia, Peterborough and Windsor didn’t do well. They snagged the other good players. But, I think Ottawa wins on the buyer side. To add the best OA and best D-Man available (no disrespect to DelMastro. I personally like him better) for picks that can easily be returned next year if they wish to do so is the best possible outcome for any team buying. Worse case scenario you only have to release 2 players next year to get your picks back which provides a reset year without a serious rebuild. Not losing any 16-17 year olds with such a good class of ‘05-‘06 players returning is an exceptional result. I really don’t think it is close. It would be a different story if Ottawa only traded picks and got “good” players like Harrison and Holmes. I’d then say they cheated out. But to get two dynamic players for picks easily replaced in the future is crazy.

James Boyd easily wins the Buyer side. Richmond easily wins the Seller side. I really don’t see an argument to be made otherwise.
I disagree on who won the buyers side, but that’s ok; it’s completely subjective at this time.
I would not expect Beck to return the equivalent of VanVolsen & Dezoete either. It can’t be a free rental. Returning picks cannot be considered free either because there is a 2-3 year period before use plus 2-3 year development period after use.

Depends on what draft the picks are in. We can easily assume the draft picks will be returned in same years next offseason since not much exited for 2023.

Wow wow wow I am very impressed with James.

This team should be able to make it to ohl final for sure.. If Boucher can stay out of suspension trouble and if everyone stays healthy...we have 3 very dangerous lines and a 4th that we can count on for at least a goal every second game.

If Saginaw is awarded the 2024 Mem Cup, seems very plausible they could send some picks back for Rohrer this off season.

About 5 minutes to go until the deadline. I assume JF Plante and Kenny Walls will tweet a confirmation of the status of the 67’s sometime soon after the NOON deadline.
