The big difference between Wright and Morrison is that Morrison wants to be here. Wright seems to think that he deserves to be in the NHL and that the rules just as they were so he could become an OHL player should be changed for him. Yes, I know the OHL rule was changed but he still had to be given the special tag.

There was a reason that he did not go to Montreal and I think maturity and the CHL rule were the biggest reasons. There is no way Montreal would have kept him this long on their roster he would have been back in the OHL in November.

Now I just hope that if Minty is a done deal JB turns off the phone and goes on a holiday for the rest of the week.

When was the last time that Ottawa got 5200 tickets sold for a Sunday game

Well, lads. I am hearing nothing about Mintyukov. It sounds like Saginaw hasn’t made him available. I don’t know that for sure but not one NHL Insider has said anything. With such a big player, if Saginaw was dangling him, you’d think we’d have heard something. With no rumours of him even being on the block, it doesn’t look good.

This didn’t age well!

WOW. So quiet and then BOOM!

I don‘t mind looking like a fool when the result is this! That said, I do need to work on that. The “fool look” doesn’t look good on me!

I haven’t been more excited about the team in my 8 years as a STH, including the OHL final, four years ago. Top to bottom, they are loaded.

On top of that, in an OHL hosting year next season they will have many tradeable players to recoup the lost picks. Depending on the Mintyukov price, they can contend again in two or three years.

Regarding selling next year, keep in mind that a lot of teams were buyers this year looking to offload players next year to recoup assets. That sets up to likely be more of a buyers market. We’ll see how bountiful it ends up being.

BUT, this team with Mintyukov is stacked.

I’m curious to see wha is going out. He’s a big catch but an Import. I’m hoping nothing major but I have a feeling one of the pieces is going to hurt a lot.

Great sources

I was referring to NHL Insiders like Jeff Marek and Kyper et all. Usually if there is a big name on the block it is reported. Then it is a waiting game for the trade. With not even a whisper from any of the NHL Insiders, I started to think Saginaw wasn’t going to deal him. How they kept him being on the block silent for so long is crazy. A player of that calibre and not even a whisper is nuts.

If it turns out to be just picks for Mintyukov then that’s a great deal. Team is fully intact next year. 10 forwards and 7 defence plus both goalies return. I’m sure out of that bunch we will have some assets to free up at the deadline to recoup some of the picks used this year.

Pretty crazy really. As Barberpole said, we had this duo targeted pretty much from day one. We’ve talked about it at length.

You have to think James Boyd probably had the 2nd best deadline of any of the GMs this year. You have to tip your hat to Mississauga. Snagging both VanVolsen and Martone is quite the coup. They get my nod for best deadline. Boyd truly needs to be second without a doubt.

An .800 win% team adding the 2nd and 3rd leading scorers and not parting with a body is crazy good asset management. To have the picks to do it requires a lot of discipline.

For the record, there are lots of tickets available for Kamloops this year. They are around $650 each For the package. I looked last week on a lark….

I saw the same post from Barrie fans in 2010.

Ottawa will still be a threat next year then. Man I was wishing you would lose one good player to the West. This would be a great deal if its just picks.

And yes Missy is ridiculous now. Their back end is strong for years and now the forwards as well. MacDonell and Zidlicky were also very good pick ups. DeZoete is no slouch either.

If the Mintyukov deal ends up just being picks, I think we’ve seen first hand this year what it is like coming into a season with a good team and not enough draft picks. You end up trading multiple 1sts and all the picks you have just to finish 3rd…. Sorry Peterborough. Ooooopsie! That’s what you get for trading Panwar!

Ottawa will need to recoup some picks next year.

We will recoup some picks tomorrow we have to move a few body’s out.
We’d benefit from moving a few bodies but the bodies we’d move won’t get us anything of value.

So, unless they trade someone like Sirman, I can’t see them getting a lot. If we are talking about Laforme, I’m not sure we’d get even a 7th.

All of Horner, Marrelli, Ewles, Quick and Kelly can play Tier II and practice with Ottawa. Not all of them will be reassigned but all five are eligible. Smyth is out somewhat long term so Sirman and Mews likely hold down the third pairing.

To put this into perspective, we had so many returning players last season that we traded Sawyer, Gill-Shane, Cranley, Gaidamak and Johnston. We also pushed two picks forward and gained an additional pick as well as an improved pick.

The result of all that was:

1x 2nd
5x 3rd
1x 5th

Seven total picks of value. We traded nine picks for Mintyukov. No doubt at least two of them will be 2nds, maybe three. But, we can equate the vast majority of the potential return for Mintyukov from trading spare parts and adding the net picks we received pushing 2022 picks forward to future years.

I’d say, all in all, adding Mintyukov and Morison for just picks when we had so many is a major win.

I don’t think any team will match this lineup the depth is very good. I would say we are done other than trading a couple of players possibly that aren’t in the top 18 for some draft picks. It’s time to sit back & enjoy the games. Well done JB

Cooper Foster>Logan Morrison>Jack Beck
Luca Pinelli>Vinzenz Rohrer>Will Gerrior
Brady Stonehouse>Cameron Tolnai>Ty Boucher
