They made it a lot harder on themselves in the last 4 minutes. Gardiner gives the puck away just in side our blue line on a back pass that was intercepted. Then Horner gets a delay of game penalty and Mayich takes a slashing penalty. Missi came within a half an inch or so of tying the game.

Otherwise I thought they played a pretty good game. Glad to get the 4 points though.

This team should be at least 40 shots a game. I can not understand how this can be a single digit team for shots in a period

Someone is eventually going to knock Pinelli into next week. He slashes everyone after every play and won't back it up. Tick tock...

Some next year thoughts

Stonehouse…Rohrer…Beck
Pinelli…Gardiner…Gerrior
Barlas…Foster…Dever
07 2nd…07 1st…Kelly

Mayich…Mews
Sirman…Ewles
Marrelli…Smyth
Horner

Donoso
MacKenzie

Open OA card & open import card I think this team next year can once again be pretty competitive. The L1 will depend on if Beck returns but unfortunately for him it’s looking more & more like he will probably return for his OA season IMO a very strong L1. I think we can buckle our selfs in for this season & 2 more of a good competitive Ottawa 67’s Hockey team

I think one of Smyth, Mayich or Sirman is traded in the summer.

I would be surprised if Calgary doesn't sign Beck, he showed well enough as an 18 year old that they are not going to want to let him walk. Once signed, the question is where will they send him to play? It's possible they return him as an OA, but probably much more likely AHL or ECHL (similar to Kerins this season). IMO.

If the arrangements aren't already in place for a March 1 announcement he will be going back into the draft and be looking to sign with another team. Two things have to happen for him to be assigned to the AHL next year 1) a solid playoff performance 2) put on 20lbs by August. An NHL team will want him at a 185-190lbs to play pro. As it is, they may prefer that he matures physically and then demonstrates he can handle a full season of play. Kerins played a full season and put up 118pts in his 19 yo season, Beck has the skill but needs to prove he belongs.

Boucher is not even with the team currently, they expect him to be back skating sometime in the first few weeks of March.
I do not have a lot of faith that Boucher will help us much. His shoulder is messed up and he hits hard exerting a lot of force which cannot be good. We need his muscle and tenacity for the playoffs but will he survive.

If Beck does return, we have a very strong lineup and (with filling the open OA and Import, like they did this year) would be in contention for the top spot in the East, imo.

On the other hand, to play devil's advocate for a bit, part of me thinks that Boyd might see 2023-24 as a sort of reset year - not a full-scale rebuild, but a year where the 67s would be satisfied with a a bottom 4 playoff seed in the conference and maybe push to get into the 2nd round. The big "if" at this point is Beck, if he returns maybe they keep the team intact; if not, maybe Boyd takes the opportunity to recoup some of the draft picks they spent on Mintyukov and Morrison. In that case, I could see them (1) unloading Donoso before the season for a package of draft picks, and letting MacKenzie run with the starting goalie position; and (2) sending Rohrer out for what would be sizable package of draft picks; and (3) trading one of their D-men (Mayich, Smyth, or Sirman). That way, they're well-positioned for another strong run in 2024-25. I dunno, I can go either way on it.

And its too bad about Boucher. I thought he looked good at the World Juniors for Team U.S. Not that this was a completely wasted season for his development, but certainly not the fulsome season us 67s fans, or the Senators, were hoping for. Hope to see him back on the ice at full health when he's ready.

Yes skating with sens daily treatment from the big club. He will see a specialist in California next week & a decision will be made on surgery or not is what I’ve been told.

I think we should go with the mindset that what we have now is our team and should Boucher appear well it will be an added bonus. Do not prepare with him in the plans as I can see him not returning due to the nature of his injury.

Smyth should be back but he does not have the same impact.

The question, though is whether Beck will be a big player next year. Maybe the injuries are not his fault, but he is still injury prone and has not played a full or even half season. The same question that Calgary is going to have come singing time is the same question that Boyd has to be thinking. Is Beck a better off-season trade piece than he would be during the season?

Did anyone else notice that Monday, we could find ourselves in 2nd place?

With us playing Gatineau next week it is not going to be that easy.

67's down 3-2 early in 2nd on a pp

3-3

2ND 11:30 #19 Jack Beck (5) scores. Assists: #8 Frankie Marrelli, #26 Gavin Ewles

4-3

2ND 18:51 #19 Jack Beck (6) scores. Assists: #16 Logan Morrison, #27 Jack Matier

Should be 5-3 for 67's as Mintyukov scored a good goal but after a long discussion the goal was waved off as there were 2 pucks on the ice, supposedly a puck was stuck in the netting around the rink and it broke lose and fell on the ice, the puck was not noticed until after the goal.

67's lead 4-3 after 2

Flint is a .500 team that is 3-7 in its last ten. Long bus ride, injuries, blah blah blah - enough. It's time for this team to shake itself out of its mini-funk and start playing the way they are capable...
