HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

Why not. I wouldn't be surprised by a Cozens trade to Habs.

Absolutely

Buffalo is looking for established roster players, not just picks or prospects. The only players I see that are both expendable and potentially of value to them are Newhook, Heineman, Struble, and Anderson with retention. They’ve got good depth on the wing and no need for another LD. They need good centers as badly as we do. I’m not sure I see a fit. If there’s a deal to be made, I think he’s my preference as we really don’t have anyone with his profile or skill set. Could be a great complement to Demidov.

Anaheim might be willing to go the picks/prospects/role player route with Zegras. He’s not my first choice and his skill set feels redundant with Demidov on the way. Don’t think he has the personality for MTL. McTavish would be a better fit but I doubt he’s genuinely available.

No idea what Lou is up to with NYI but if they’re rebuilding, Horvat for picks/prospects could be ideal for another three seasons or so. Barzal isn’t really a center anymore, has had some big injuries, and comes with a big contract. Pageau would be like doubling up on Evans.

All the other options kind of suck.

At that point I’d rather just take a shot at Cozens. He also has one good offensive year but at least he’s able to stay on the ice

Plus when Cozens isn't producing offensively he still finds other ways to be useful. He uses his size and plays physical, he's improved a lot on faceoffs and he's killed penalties in the past.

I would entertain selling Dvorak at 50% and claiming Brown from TB to be a warm body.

That is, unless we need the retention on Savard/Armia.

If we can acquire a top 6 center this summer, the team would look really good next season.

Cozens and Duchene are probably the ones that make the most sense right now.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Laine - Cozens/Duchene - Demidov
Newhook - Dach - Heineman
Gallagher - Evans - Anderson

Guhle - Hutson
Matheson - Carrier
Xhekaj - Reinbacher
Struble

Monty
Dobes

Looks like a contending lineup to me

With Evans now re-signed and staying I don't see much of anything happening for the Habs before the deadline now since he was their most valuable trade asset.

Maybe Armia gets moved but I'm expecting Dvo and Savard to stay due to their caphits and Hughes not wanting to use his last retention slot on either of them.

Maybe though he'd use it to retain 50% on Armia but even at 50% retained Armia still won't get much value back in return so I'm expecting Hughes to keep his last retention slot for the off season for anything that might pop up nearing the draft or before UFA starts.

Double plus, his deficits playing center may be helped by having a winger that facilitates/drives offence and is geared toward attacking from the middle of the ice. The size, speed, shot, and two-way play are a great fit for rookie Demidov.

my only hesitation with him is he's another right hand C. If there's a comparable lefty i'd go with that player but if Cozens is available for an acceptable price and he's clearly the best available C, then lets do it
