Well that certainly didn't live up to the hype haha. U guys down alot of guys & we just didn't play with any extra effort. Refs destroyed any flow or pace the game could've had, too.

Still an impressive group u guys got. Heck of a goalie too. Look forward to what will hopefully be a more exciting rematch in a few weeks haha.

Team was gassed in the third, good job to hang-on.
Entertaining game between two good teams.
Difference was two incredible toe saves by Donoso today

Not sure how the attendance is counted, but there was way more than 3700...
Place was almost full.

Nothing against the choices but I did think Sirman deserved a star. Played a hell of a game out of position. Marelli/Ewles gave us solid minutes on the third pairing. And that Horner kid has some jam...I like it.

One thing that was positive for u guys was Gaudreau who played really well imo. I know it's been an area of concern in Sarnia.

I’ll take the win but man we were just hanging on at the end there. Will be great to get some bodies back in the lineup here soon, but no rush on Rohrer or Boucher obviously. Great game by Donoso. Along with the entire defense corps, I also thought Stonehouse, Gardiner and Gerrior played really well today.

Overall a good effort.

That's the problem with Sarnia. They never seem to jump on their chances & take advantage of other teams. You guys deserved the win today.

Sarnia certainly has nothing to be ashamed of. They out-chanced Ottawa but the majority of their prime scoring chances seemed to come from the faceoff circles. Ottawa didn’t give them a lot of room to manoeuvre in the slot or in front of the crease. Credit to Ottawa’s defense there, but nor did I see the Sarnia forwards make any notable effort to get to the dirty areas.

Overall I thought Gaudreau was great and Sarnia’s defense was really solid.

It was interesting today when Boyd was interviewed. He had stated about a month before the deadline that they had an OA spot open and an Import spot open. Today when asked about the deadline moves, he did say they were fortunate to get their #1 targets.

Based on what he had said a while back, what he said today and what they ended up doing, it sounds like he managed to do exactly what he planned. So, the pressure is on. If he got the guys he wanted and he no has the team he wants, his judgement is now being put to the test.

remember Sarnia was on the last game of the3 game 3.5 day road trip.
The next 12 games will tell us if we are real or just pretenders.

Yeah but they had Saturday off. I really don’t think this is an excuse anymore. If a team (or fanbase) uses this as an excuse, they need to look at their own fitness.

NHL hockey teams do it now too. The only difference is OHL teams do it on a bus. And, in many respects, that can be better. First, Sarnia played Peterborough on Thursday. With the 407 in place, the trip isn’t any longer than Ottawa to Oshawa at under 4 hours. They would then have likely pushed on after the game to Kingston and stayed there for the duration of the trip. So, a 2 hour drive to the game in Ottawa on Sunday morning after 40 hours between games. Likely 8 total hours on the bus from Thursday through Sunday game time. Bus legs should not be an issue whatsoever. That is like Ottawa to Oshawa and back for the 67’s. Ottawa does the Oshawa game as a one off there and back three times this season. Once they do it on a Sunday after two home games on Friday and Saturday.

Like all of the top teams, they are all contenders. Each one of them. We have four in the East and three in the West. Each of those teams should not have an issue moving on to the 2nd round of the playoffs. When each of those teams play each other, there will undoubtedly be one winner and one loser. Yesterday Ottawa came out on top.

Was Ottawa at its full lineup? Nope. But, Ottawa has proven capable at times when this has been the case. They play mistake free hockey, shut down defensively and possibly got the best game of the season out of Donoso. That was JUST enough to pull out a win. They‘ve now played at least 6-7 games shorthanded with many key players out of the lineup so they are well practised at it.

Sarnia is in a similar situation to Ottawa in so far as they have to learn how to work as one using with new key players in the lineup. They need some time to build chemistry. They need a coupe weeks. When they are dialed in, they will be a tough opponent. We play again on Feb 5th In Sarnia. I expect that game to be a good game.

They won the game, there are no excuses to be had by either team - travel, injury and suspension is part of the game that every team has to deal with.

I didn't think it was Ottawa best weekend of hockey, there were definitely some things to correct after these two games. Well earned SO by Donoso yesterday.

Ottawa showed some toughness yesterday. With a substantial amount of their scoring out of the lineup, they chose to grind it out and deny Sarnia the cycle game that they wanted to play. The last 20 seconds of the game and parts of earlier penalty kills were forced to the boards, with the puck frozen in a sea of legs and sticks. Playoff hockey is more like this and the team that can adjust and play whatever game works will come out on top. Yesterday, it was Ottawa, but Sarnia has some prime talent as well. I hope we don't have a recurrence of the mono problem. I thought we beat that years ago.

The point was that there seems to be a need by the fan bases to use games like this as a measuring stick. The reality is, measuring sticks, in general, are not valid in a one game sample size. As you mention, there are many different factors. Sarnia was on the road at the tail end of an Eastern roadie. Fine. Ottawa was missing their entire 2nd line and their 1st line centre. Fine. It is what it is. One game.

The measuring stick will come in the playoffs in a seven game series. Everything we do between now and round two will be in an effort to prepare for a championship run.

As long as Smyth wasn’t French kissing his teammates, I think we will be ok from a Mono perspective….

The issue seems to be the flu. It ran through much of the team back in November and seems to have resurfaced. Hopefully it will only affect a small handful of players over a very short period of time. We have the road trip this weekend. With any luck, it will be gone by then.

We need to start playing with a full lineup soon so we can get coordinated properly.

Morrison seems to have found a groove. It is Mintyukov that concerns me. He is an aggressive D-man, with obvious skills. Cameron has been sliding him up and down the lineup, looking for a good match without upsetting the mix on other pairings. Plus, he needs to adjust to how Ottawa plays the PP. Nothing insurmountable, but it will take time.

Ottawa is 0-7-1-1 when playing with the flu this season and 30-0-0 when healthy. Remarkable really

Yes but are the other teams "healthy" that lost in the 30 win games? It comes full circle for all teams. Flue is usually quick with healthy young athletes. It is the nagging injuries that most never hear about that are killers for most teams.

This reference was from a previous discussion a couple months ago. It is now being inflated in an effort to mock me personally. It has nothing to do with a team conversation.

The original conversation was back during a one week stretch where Ottawa had a stretch of three consecutive losses. The period in question was Fri Nov 18 through Sun Nov 27. Coincidentally, Ottawa had a key injury at the same time.

I had stated after the Erie game (Monday) that it looked like we had the flu because much of the team was dragging ass. You could tell it wasn’t just a lazy lack of effort. There is a difference. Then on the North Bay game (Thursday), they looked lethargic which pointed clearly to the flu. They had zero scoring opportunities. And when I say ZERO scoring chances. I mean ZERO scoring chances. I wasn’t exaggerating. They had some odd lineup scratches with no injuries reported. My comments were mocked at that time. I simply reported my own observation questioning whether they had the flu because there was absolutely zero effort. Considering the way they had played up to that point going 18-1, it didn’t make sense that their effort fell off a cliff so dramatically. They then proceeded to lose to the Petes for the third straight loss on The Saturday. Much of the effort had returned for that game but they still didn’t seem their normal selves.

Subsequently, the following week, it did come out that virtually the entire room had the flu and were in different stages over the course of a week to ten days.

That leads us to now. Another report of the flu going through the room. I think that may be exaggerated. I think a couple players have the flu, not the whole team, nor the majority. Based on the scratches Friday and Sunday, it looks like it was a small handful of players.

NOW, I said I hope it doesn’t get worse because it would be unlucky for us to have it happen twice in a season. Mostly because we are playing with a short lineup already because of real injuries.

Just someone trying to mock me personally but the backstory is here so there is perspective as to why they are trying to mock me personally.

I should also qualify the comments regarding injuries and how Ottawa has had its fair share of bad luck. Ottawa has a combined 78 games lost to prime roster players (not including what we would call replacements) due to injuries, suspensions and International Tournaments.

Morrison x1
Pinelli x1
Rohrer x11
Matier x10
Mews x10
Boucher x22
Beck x23
Total = 78

Smyth has missed 17 games but I don’t consider him a Prime roster player. He has been replaced with a combination of players and he would also have missed a few games through rotation/rest most likely anyway.

When it comes to Minty I think it's also a question of the team getting used to him. He's the most dynamic weapon on D we've had in ages. The guy and coaches need a bit of time to learn how to use him. Once they do...watch out. Some "experts " have said he may be the most talented player in the O.

Question fellow posters. We've talked a lot about the jump so many players have made from last year with good reason. What about the player who has made the biggest jump from the start of this season? I'm going with Barlas who seemed like he was going nowhere and has turned into a solid contributor including the pk. H.M. to Marelli.

Barlas has been good and would be one of my top picks but I don't think anyone saw Gardiner the way he is.

Gardiner showed a lot of positives last year, I would add Foster to the list as well. Both are continuing to develop and will be solid OHLers, I wish they were a year older this year...LOL
