Del Maestro for Marelli seems like a crap deal.

There is no way that he is worth Marelli and picks

Ewle and picks would be a better deal

I also think that Laforme would probably nix a deal out of Ottawa. He has played enough to guarantee the extra year on his scholastics
First, Laforme is the 25th roster player and is only playing because of injuries and tournaments. Second, he doesn’t guarantee anything. You get one semester for playing a game in the first half and another semester for playing a game in the second half. If he plays the game on January 1st, he gets his second semester covered. Third, if he stays in Ottawa, he won’t dress another game after the deadline. The injuries would need to be extensive for him to dress.

Regarding DelMaestro, I agree. He is a great D-Man but I am not sure he is in the ‘06 1st category but it is close. The thing we need to remember is MArrelli is technically a 1st rounder but because of comp picks etc, he actually falls into the 2nd round based on draft position (21st). As much as we may like Marrelli, it is like trading a sold 2nd rounder. Or, for that matter, the Guelph 2nd round pick in 2023 which is lining up to be a similarly drafted position as where Marrelli was taken.

trade freeze has been lifted. Let’s see what unfolds. Reminder WJ players can be traded but not announced until their team has been eliminated from the tournament. Stay tuned

Thanks for all your trade tidbits. What deals do you expect Ottawa to get done for sure?

Hearing 2 TOP players will be joining the 67s...one won't be until Jan 6th 😉

So Harrison and Wright. I guess it comes down to whether they can snag the D-Man and who they pick up as an OA and/or Import.

Boucher with two goals in a losing effort for USA today. Good for him. Bad for the team.

Ottawa fans saying anything less than Mews + picks are just sounding biased & cheap.

If the Petes will not move Lardis or VanVolsen, colts holding Beaudoin, rangers not giving up Rehkopf; the ‘67s can offer a decent player and a pick package that cannot be matched
Edit: would not be matched

As to Laforme I fully agree I did not say that he should play on the team for the rest of the season. My thought was that once he had the required time that he simply go play in t he Central league. I do not see him moving to another team that is lower quality and sitting on the bench there for the rest of the season he might as well stay at home and play. I also do not see him as someone that any team would want in a trade.

Del Maestro is a rental player if we are going to give up Marelli for a rental than it should be Mintykov level.

I was reading in the London thread that they do not have a lot of picks to trade this year so they may stand pat.

With the notoriety of London and Hockey Canada, they will not be bidding for the M Cup next year.

The question is going to be is Mississauga selling big time? If so that is one less team in the bidding.

What do the western teams see themselves doing we know Kitchener has emptied the cupboards,

How would he nix a deal? He shouldn't have a no trade clause. Would he rather get waived out of the league if Ottawa doesn't have space for him?
Yes, let's face it the reason he is here is that he is at home. Once he plays his one OHL game this year he can go to the Central league and play and get ready for university,

If you were a bit player here at home and traded to a team to be a bit player away from home with no chance of going anywhere else, what would you want your kid to do?

DelMaestro and Mintyukov have a different skill set but don’t sell DelMaestro short. IMO, he is the best all around D-Man in the OHL only beaten by Clarke is he returns. I would take DelMaestro over Mintyukov because of the physicality he brings. When the playoffs come around, I think that plays a more impactful role.

The big part of this is not the trade freeze BUT the NHL freeze. No one can do anything with Clarke or Wright as long as the NHL still holds them on their rosters.

This has to suck for Barrie and Kingston.

Ottawa fans saying anything less than Mews + picks are just sounding biased & cheap.
Mews went on a recruiting trip to his father’s alma mater Northeastern a couple weeks before the draft and was rumoured to only consider reporting to the 67’s. He’s a local Ottawa product ranked in the top 10 for the 2024 NHL Draft. A player of his ilk has never been dealt as a rookie to my knowledge (Robert Thomas was very, very good but went 20th overall in his draft year.

Henry’s father Harry is the extremely successful Owner of Myers Automotive, with many locations in the Capital region. He’s a 16 year old kid playing on the top team in the league in his hometown. Why on Earth would he waive his NTC this year? Better yet, why would the team consider moving him?

They do have a deep Cupboard so its possible
What positions are they rumoured to be acquiring?

They won't move Mews that is for sure and I hope they don't move Marelli. They are both key players for this teams future....move a forward...
I personally see Foster as being more valuable then Gardiner.....I would deal Gardiner If we had to offer a forward or Ewles for D man.

Gardiner is more pure of a centre with the ability to drive his line. Foster less so. When all is said and done, Foster will probably score more career goals than both Barlas and Gardiner but I think Barlas and Gardiner will be more impactful as all around contributors.

Agree about Mews and Marrelli. The problem is what it takes to win championships now require a full push and for Ottawa it means likely adding three impact players. We’d likely need to move two players. It looks like Foster and Marrelli are the two most likely to move.

If we do it half cocked and only add an OA centre for picks and don’t win, we may as well do nothing at all. It’s just the way the League goes now. Not saying I like it because I don’t but I also want to win and if that is now what it takes then so be it.

I wonder when the Kraken and Kings are going to let Kingston and Barrie off the hook and announce what they are doing with the 2 players.

Clarke coming back could also upset the trade deadline if Barrie decides to deal him.

Right now I think that the Wright situation is what is screwing up the trade deadline. It will set the bar for other trades and also determine who is still avail.

About rules…..
As Bedard tried the Michigan, he hit the keeper in the head.
Now, why is that not a 2 min penalty?
Is it just expected for a keeper to shake it off, while a player with full cage draws a 2 min? Does anyone know anything about that scenario or is there no rule?
Just wondering…

Follow through on a shot high stick is not a penalty. I believe, if memory serve correct, Bryan Berard lost his eye on a high stick follow through. Not a penalty.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, both the Kings and Kraken have made their decisions and have informed the two junior clubs.

So, unless their respective teams all of a sudden have multiple season ending injuries at those respective positions and no other AHL options or trade options viable, I don’t believe either team is willing to burn a contract year on either player.

As a rule of thumb, NHL players that play for team Canada at the World Juniors that have not played their ten games all get returned. It would be extremely odd for either player to return to their NHL teams. I believe both teams are proceeding as of threat is the case.
