With what Guelph gave for Suzuki, I don’t think Ottawa would have even needed to give Tolnai.

The reality is if Ottawa/Boyd continue a hard stance on mot moving bodies at the deadline, it is unlikely they win anything.

We shall see if they year is any different.
I realize it was a different time BUT Ottawa has won an M Cup through drafting and development.

Again in the playoffs you need size a strong 3rd line and goaltending

1999 was a fun hosted tourney but we lost in round 2.

Riot to that, it was a much different t league. Not a reasonable comparison now. It would be like drawing comparisons in the NHL to pre-salary cap era.

Ottawa has inquired on Wright, as per this article. Looks like James wants to make some moves.

At least he sounds like he understands the need to improve. He did say he doesn’t feel like he has a hole to fill though.

Very reassuring article for me. It's quite clear Boyd is willing to make moves to improve the team and acknowledges that other teams have already gotten better. I was afraid he was truly going to maintain the status quo after his recent " rumoured" comments. I'm still very skeptical on Wright though because of the cost especially as we have OA and import room.

More specifically he says we have a first place team with a chance to go far so he'll look at all options to improve the team. So if we were worried about his willingness to make moves I think this answers it pretty clearly.

He also was pretty clear that Beck is coming back after the holidays
Good point. I sorta glossed over that because my assumption was that. But him actually saying it is important. He is like a deadline move, even if he was in the lineup for 9 wins.

If Peterborough plays .750 hockey the rest of the season, they finish with 90 points. Ottawa would only need to go 21-16 in the second half to win the division. Pretty solid start to only need to go 5 games over .500 in the 2nd half to win the division.

By comparison, if Barrie were to go .750 the rest of the way, NB would need to go 24-11-1 to win the division, so 13 games above .500

Suzuki was a package to Guelph.....Suzuki,Durzi,Philips, and Robert's....not all the same deal but don't kid yourself..a package....fans in Owen Sound were sad to see them go but satisfied with the return

It’s more than just inquiring from what I’ve heard.

Suspect Wright to Ottawa trade to be announced following world juniors.

Sorry for being blunt but if you think Owen Sound should be happy with the return for the ”Suzuki package” then you are sadly mistaken.

OS got:
one season of point per game production from Kirwin
Half season of Poirier (half useless OA)
2.5 years of a 3rd round pick D-Man (Woolley) that was average at best.
2nd
2x3rds
4th

That package is barely enough to cover Durzi as an OA D-Man. Durzi was the best OA D-Man available that season. If he were traded now, the comp would be two 2nds and two 3rds. That doesn’t even cover Suzuki that would cost an ‘06 1st and five picks alone.

Phillips was traded for the adequate package of three 2nds, two 3rds and a 4th. That package today would be bigger but I can’t say it was a rip off.

Suggesting that total package as being satisfactory is silly. That total package was garbage.

You probably know something I don't but I still don't see it when we have an OA and import spot open which would cost way less to fill. It's also not James Boyd motus operandi to do that type of trade which would require likely sacrificing Marelli. The picks we have but would be shocked if Boyd traded a first rounder. Unless has OMG mentioned this ends up as a "wink-wink" two part trade. We get Wright for a ton of picks this year then over the summer or next trade deadline we trade them ready players for a memorial cup run (Stonehouse/Sirman??)and get picks back.

Foster & picks to Kingston for Wright
Dever & picks to Oshawa for Harrison
Marrelli & picks to Saginaw for Mintyukov

As I said I could be wrong but I am hearing this more & more

I guess if you are gonna do it, you may as well do it Wright!

Still an OA spot open.

After an extremely underwhelming season last year in the O, and then scoring in his own net the other night, I don't even know if I'd want Wright.

Considering the cost and Ottawa with an open OA spot, I’d rather have Morrison but he is a good player. I question his drive in the face of adversity.

Considering the Frontenacs roster and possible choices of Beaudoin, Rehkopf, Lardis or VanVolsen; it is more likely Mews and picks for Wright.
Stonehouse and McKenzie might be a more preferable offer.

any team serious about a run wants to get the best player available at the deadline.

as a 17 year old! lol
Mcdavid 17 yr old like 2.55 pt pace?

It's not just points. he had some fluky goals, and like i said, he didnt stand out a lot of games.

I called he wouldn't be going 1st overall 2 months into the season.

Rehkopf and Lardis arent options. Those guys are already producing. Not going to give up a point produicing top 6 F for another one. You trade a young guy who isnt ready to produce yet

>ppg than McDavid @15, much less @17, at 18 infinitely more if returned to the OHL since McDavid was not.
There is one player in the OHL that had a higher ppg than Wright last season. He is a comparable OA centre to Vierling that the colts probably have zero interest in acquiring.
