Gardiner has that “sumthin sumthin” that only a handful of players have. It is also why the Leafs used their 1st rounder on Cowan. Same sort of deal.

I think Gardiner will carve out a good NHL career as a 3rd line specialist.

I agree. Gardiner is a smart, versatile player who, with a few years of development, should be able to play and play well in a variety of what I'll call bottom-6 roles at the NHL level. That's not a bad thing. He has #3C written all over him.

Pinelli goes to Columbus in the 4th.

Good luck in Columbus! Actually, I think Pinelli's makeup, in terms of his consistent level of effort and willingness to play with an edge, will lend itself well to playing for a demanding coach like Mike Babcock.

I am not surprised at all by all the picks and which rounds each 67bwent in. I actually see Gardner having a great year and he is abit if a diamond in the rough.
Pinelli is very gifted and should do equally well this year .

Hoefenmayer signs an entry level deal with Edmonton. One year. Good for him.

I didn’t think he’d sign an NHL contract. But, he had a really good season last year and it looks like it worked out!

Mews is listed as the first round next year. So we should have an exciting team for a few years again.

It will be interesting to see how Foster does this year.

Sure going to make for an interesting camp. Seems that the oilers are trying to play the 4 good D with 4 EH D. Noel knows how to play and i think his time in the ECHL and the Marlies will help. Surprised the Marlies did not offer him a contract.

I still don’t feel Hoef is an NHL player. His skating is weak For that level. He plays as a top 3 guy so it will be very tough for him to crack a role like that in the NHL. He needs to work on his skating and defensive side of the game. If he can prove capable of playing a defensive role, he may get a shot and then we see what happens.

The good thing for him is with this NHL contract, he satisfies his entry level requirements. So, even if he doesn’t play in the NHL, he opens the door for another NHL contract that has a higher salary at the AHL level. So, that is very good. Hs focus needs to first be on maintaining status as a top pairing D-Man at the AHL level. If he can, he is likely to maintain a salary in the $200k per year range. Then he can reach for the NHL.

I think the defence and goaltending will hold them in a lot of games.

Can they score enough with that down the middle up front?

With Brzustewicz unsigned, are we set up for a defection with picks and the comp pick refilling the pick cabinet?

No imports?
we have had some luck with some imports reporting over the last few years. It’s really a flip of a coin type of thing it’s something I would not rely on to fill out the roster until it’s confirmed, some years we haven’t even used our 2nd round pick. In the last 5 years we have had Rohrer, Gaidamak & Rossi report 3 out of a possible 10 selections. It’s not always easy. picking 57th & 117th does not make it any easier. I can see us even passing on the 117th pick. I think if we have a chance of an import playing for us this season will be from via trade

I think not including the Import is a mistake. At least one of the picks will show and will play. Ottawa has always been able to find a star

Consider that every year we have a couple of players that in their second year shine above expectations.

Would not be surprised to see Gerrior on the first line. I think he and Barlas are going to surprise us this year.

I can possibly see a trade where we get some picks and we get the extra defect draft pick. I am surprised though it seemed that he was happy.

Then again maybe Ottawa is waiting until the end of August to announce the signing. Killer did that a couple of times to generate talk and het before training camp.

You’d think they’d want him in development camp in June.

I’m not saying I am on to anything, jsut throwing it out there as a possibility.

1> I’m not sure we have a “first line.”
2> I agree about the import comments. The question is whether they can bring in an impactful one as an 18 year old or whether they will be developing 17 year olds that are, as you say, one year away from shining.
3> Barlas is an odd man out situation. Depth on the wings to start the season will either push him further down the lineup or force him to play centre where he is less effective. For Barlas to make a step forward, I think another player is going to have to take a step back for him to even get a real opportunity. I’d like to see it though.

It seems that way to me. I recall in his post draft interview that he hadn’t spoken to Ottawa and he was surprised to have been taken there. Dealing him would almost re-stock the draft pick cupboard. When counting the Flint 2024 3rd and 5th round picks acquired as the condition in the Will Cranley trade that aren’t currently listed in the draft pick database.

Brzustewicz was the 22nd overall pick. It’s hard to find exact comparables for these types of deals but I would expect that the 67’s would get at least 2 second rounders and one third rounder.

It could be a win-win for the 67’s to restock their pick cupboard and Brzustewicz to stay close to home.

Assuming he wants to play in the OHL.

I think two 2nds and two 3rds if he is a willing report to his trade destination. I know he’s really an early 2nd but he’s also a bird in hand so that usually has a little more value.

Looking at past comparables of Domi I think you are right but the question is not just what picks but also what year are the picks.

It is interesting that he was not drafted in the USHL draft. Even if he had said that he was good you would think a team would have taken him in the later rounds.

I think that mom and Dad are trying to get him either playing in Kitchener who really has nothing to offer in a trade or closer to home.

I don't think the American teams will want to make a deal so it will be interesting. I am sure mom and Dad have told them where he wants to play.

We can only wait and see.

The longer it goes through the less I think there is a trade.

He can only be deemed defective and traded (during a two week window beginning September?). I’m certain teams would make offers even if conditional picks only.

I think we are a little ahead of ourselves with speculation.

I know I started it but more so something to keep an eye on as opposed to getting into the nitty gritty.

I’m not sure if this was something Ottawa did in an effort to recoup assets or not. I was confused by a D-Man being picked in the 1st. Maybe it’s a strategy and maybe they feel he will sign and they want that. I dunno. I just think it is odd he hasn’t signed yet.

Good catch by Beast noticing he wasn’t picked in the USHL draft. Looks like he’s playing OHL one way or the other. Doubt he plays Tier II and NCAA. USHL seems more likely of a path to NCAA for a player of his calibre.

Import draft today, 7 teams passing in 1st round and 34 teams in 2nd round, 67's are listed as selecting in both rounds.

67’s draft Vegas 6th rounder in the 2023 draft, RW - Tuomas Uronen (Finland). Played on Finland’s U-18 team. Scored some decent points in the junior program as well. I imagine if he signs he will be an impactful 18 year old. I imagine he’d be pencilled into a top 6 winger role.
