Don't get me wrong, it's a bad return, I'm just rolling my eyes at the "wow, Sens fans said no to this!" posts in here.

But that's the thing, isn't it? If you can't get Karlsson to agree to a pre trade extension, why not wait til the deadline? Or why even worry about sending him to one of those "shortlist" teams like SJ, DAL, VGK, TB, etc?

There will be lesser players than Karlsson that get moved for better returns at the deadline this season. Hell, SJ could move him at the deadline this season and get back better than what they paid. I just find it so very difficult to believe that what they received was the best offer on the table.

I know everyone is bashing the Sens but what happens this year with SJ and whether Karlsson signs an extension matters a lot.

Not really.

Obviously we'd like him to stay but this is purely a win-win type of deal for the Sharks. We didn't expend a lot of assets on Erik Karlsson, which means he could walk away into free agency and we wouldn't really lose much. On the other hand, if Karlsson stays, excellent.

I still think Winnipeg/Nashville are ahead of the pack. I genuinely wouldn't be shocked for any of those four teams to come out of the West though.

We seen Speed can be used to exploit the Jets last Season, albeit I'm not sure the Sharks are loaded with much of that.
