That means San Jose gave up a pile of assets to watch Karlsson skate around for a year.

I know everyone is bashing the Sens but what happens this year with SJ and whether Karlsson signs an extension matters a lot.
it really doesn’t

post trade karlsson is now a guy that “skates around”. weird way to talk about a top 5 player in the league

Ottawa needed to make this trade for reasons I had forgotten but it's too bad this is the best they could do under circumstances like the Cap and an uncertain future. EK cracking up now, it's very emotional.

In a week when McPhee and Bergevin made trades (notoriously awful traders) -

Dorion makes them look like studs (although the Habs actually got a decent return...).

People need to stop comparing quality returns to this quantity return and saying "LOL OTTAWA GOT KILLED!!!". If teams were willing to trade a quality return for Karlsson, the Senators would have gotten a quality return. Obviously, teams didn't want to trade top end prospects and players for a guy with only 1 year left on his deal, so that caused his return to be limited to getting a lot of lesser assets.

Ottawa screwed up here by not shooting for more good prospects like Norris instead of conditional picks in the 2020s, but making fun of them because they didn't get a guy like Draisaitl, Zacha or whatever just isn't fair. That was never going to happen.

Because of this absolute buffoon.

Who is limiting trading a player within its division? Melnyk or Dorion.
For equals value, you take other conference for sure. But if TBL had the better offer, why not take it.

So... the return obviously isn’t great... but how do they look as a team getting all these depth pieces back? Potentially better? Worse? Just for the upcoming year

Eh. It seems pretty clear to me that sending him West was more important than the return since they had to include a conditional pick to try and keep it from happening.

had to share this board with sens fans for the 2017 pens series. and about 4 other different series before that. gotta say, they earned this one

Relocate to Mexico City.

Honestly, this deal is incomprehensibly bad. You can’t make this shit up. A 12 year old could have extracted more.

Un-f***ing-believable. Every goddamn team on the planet could and would have given up more. Dorion will have to go into hiding.

Why would Ottawa care if Karlsson was traded to the East this year? They've already admitted their rebuilding.

Putting in that condition in lieu of a better asset is hilarious.
because that only makes them look mildly stupid. If the Sharks flipped Karlsson back into the Atlantic for a better return it would make them look extremely stupid

What a shit show, you remove 1-2 pieces and thats the kind of package i expect from petry, it says it all.

Hes worth Draisitl and more, dont judge a bad GM on what Karlsson is actually worth.
In a normal situation, hell yeah he is. Not arguing that but let’s be real, the ask from sens fan considering the circumstances was obnoxious af. They have a guy who has 1 year left and was gonna walk on them so it was a get something or get nothing and you ask for Draisitl, bitch please LOL.
