Sens are a budget team with an internal budget as well, even I can tell you that as a Habs fan, I can even give you proof such as Melnyk quotes. As for them not having money go sign Hoffman, I doubt anyone knew the answer to that...

I did.

Meh, no need to single out other fan bases. There were a fair few of our own who were saying the same. There hasn't been any legitimate reason to think a deal like this wouldn't happen. I thought it would take another week, so I'm happy it got done earlier than I expected.

Well there are plenty of sens fans on here that love to play devils advocate, I knew they were going to sign him eventually. They were just going ot negotiate the best deal for the club and thats what happened.

The issue is many of his quotes are taken out of context.

He makes it pretty easy, unfortunately. He's opened his mouth enough that he should know better by now how people are going to react.

That said, he's also said that he's prepared to spend when he feels we're ready to contend. I have no reason to disbelieve that yet.

And yet, he keeps ponying up for the core players. I believe him, there's an internal budget, but the Sens make smart signings for the most part, so we're well within it.

Besides...winning the downtown bid was massive. Melnyk knows that soon we'll be paying Karlsson 10 mil, he knows he has to spend. I think he's a fat mouth, but he's not dumb.

Crickets from all the leaf fans who said the sens wouldnt pay him. Keep em coming fellas you guys are batting about 1000% right now between this and stamkos. Please keep the Karlsson is going to leave the sens threads coming... Not that I am worried but lets make it a sure thing!
Not sure why you'd single out Leafs fans, I'm a Leafs fan and think you guy's got a great deal.

As a Sens fan I don't share the same sentiment as the post you are replying to. May be I am one of the rare Sens fans who want to see Leafs get to some sort of respectability in the standings to make Battle of Ontario relevant again. I miss those wars!

Only one guy has really said something negative from the Leafs side. I wouldn't read too much into it!
Ya, as I said good signing and I also think Boucher and Crawford were great hires you guy's should have a good year. Think the coaching changes will make a big difference.

Good deal. Guy is pretty much a 30 goal scorer at this point and for just a shade over $5 mil its about right, if not a bargain

NEWS FLASH: Sky is Blue ! More @ 6pm

The point is that even with an internal budget, the team seems to be able to prioritize, and address areas of need. Mainly we lose out on the July 1 FA spending sprees.

I personally have left my distaste for the blue team by the wayside a long time ago. The Habs are a team we can all agree to dislike though.
It is kind of hard to keep up the rivalry when your team (Leafs) aren't very competitive.

Isn't July 1 UFA spending spree historically a lose-lose situation for most teams? This summer has been tame because a lot of GMs had already bound themselves to these massive contracts for players who don't necessarily return well on the investment.

Pretty much exactly what I thought he would get (my guess was 5.2 x 5yrs) so I'm cool with this!
