The first 2 just state he was a finalist, the last one says they were on the verge of hiring him when Babcock called them back.

edit: Oops didn't notice the bolded part of the quote. To lazy to look around for the few people who bad mouthed Boucher when the Sens hired him, I think they were the minority anyways so even if I did it really doesnt say anything.

Huh?

I'm genuinely curious if his disastrous defensive game is going to be improved or not so he can try to justify that contract

He isnt great in his own zone but he is probably going to fire home 35+ this year. Plus he is going to be on a line with Stone and Turris who are both defensively responsible. Nothing wrong with a speedster blowing the zone when you have linemates like that. However he isnt all bad defensively, after Hossa he puts more back pressure on the opposition than any player that has ever played for Ottawa. Creates lots of turnovers and a reason why he scores off the rush.

I do enjoy how you have to reach to find something anything bad no matter what the scenario when its sens related.

He isn't really bad defensively. I think the main issue is, with his speed, he has the ability to be a bit more active defensively and possibly use his gifted hands and feet to steal away more pucks. Hopefully now that he has a good contract with some term, he'll be a bit more comfortable out there and engage a bit more defensively.

Good deal. Guy is pretty much a 30 goal scorer at this point and for just a shade over $5 mil its about right, if not a bargain

Not calling "You" out specifically but the concensus across all fanbases in this thread is Hoffman is "prety much a 30 goal guy" at over 5 mil for 3 year bargain, wtf is JVR at 4 for 2?

Just wanted to point out a brilliant case of anti Leaf bias on HF cause apparently JVR has zero trade value

Well not to call "you" out specifically, but I think you need to look at some of the ridiculous trade proposals started by some of your fellow leafs fans. Especially before coming into a Hoffman thread looking for sympathy just because people don't want to pay a huge premium for your players.

You aren't going to get any here.

You guys greatly overvalue your picks and prospects, like most fan bases do. Your fan base just happens to be the largest, loudest, and most boisterous of the bunch, so we naturally see more arguments on here concerning leafs and their players.

You shove them down our throats, and we regurgitate it.

If you want the feeling of your players being devalued on HFboards simply because of where they play, trying being a Sens fan for a day and having to deal with the plethora of Leafs and Habs fans that flood every thread that concerns Ottawa.

Kind of like how you are here, talking about Toronto in a thread that has sweet **** all to do with them.

The structure of this contract is really interesting. Hoffman gets a huge raise during his UFA years. A good notch in Ottawa's belt as this is another player who they've managed to keep from losing to UFA.

I'm not saying Ottawa plans to trade Hoffman next year when he gets his raise, but this does open up that possibility, and I don't think it is that outlandish to speculate that it might be something that was considered with this deal. Hoffman gets his guaranteed money, and Ottawa gets at least one more cheap year out of Hoffman while opening up the door to get a better return for him in the 2017 off season than they would have gotten this off season.

Again, I'll give the disclaimer that I am not suggesting Ottawa do that, and I am not saying I think it is their absolute intention, but I think it might have been something considered as a possibility when structuring the deal. Almost everybody on their team are getting raises after each season and within the next 2 seasons, they are going to have to shed not just salary space, but also cap. Most likely situation is that Methot gets taken in the expansion draft and they rush Chabot into playing in the top 4, maybe on Karlsson's left side. But they can't bank on that.

Regardless, any way you cut it, this is a pretty good signing for Ottawa. To get Hoffman at lower than some other comparable contracts, as well as signed on a favourable term is a big win.

Agree with what you are saying that the contract structure allows flexibility for the Sens, except I can see the trade coming later, maybe at a trade deadline. I think he will get time to work on becoming more of a 2-way player. Hopefully, he will play out the term. However, the contract definitely allows for an overspend team to trade for him when they thought the lower cap to salary ratio could be more beneficial to them than the Sens, somewhat similar to Zib/Brassard trade.

My favorite argument against Hoffman is he's only had 2 good seasons in the NHL. Uhhh yeah...his rookie year and sophmore year

At the start of last season he looked like a superstar. I wonder of he can take game to next level.

Sens drafting is elite. Forget Karlsson, most teams struggle to get one late round gem like Pageau, Stone, Hoffman
