F Igor Chernyshov - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2024, 33rd, SJS)

Can’t have asked for a better (delayed) start. I’d say, to be clear, we should expect something special from a physically developed, 2005-born, 1st rounder in the CHL. And he certainly hasn’t disappointed. Very “North American” style player, I think he always had a good chance to adapt quickly, Russian or not. Hard not to see him being a quality NHL winger down the road.

With his skillet and physical attributes it's hard to not see him as a possible Calder candidate for 26 if he finds some chemistry with say Celebrini next year.

It’s hard not to see a second round pick as a Calder contender because he’s had a good first few weeks against inferior competition?

I doubt he gets enough games in the NHL to be eligible for the Calder next year. I think he spends a full year in the AHL.
Sure maybe but he was an older draft pick for a 24 draft and his skillset could be ready nut sure most years the calder comes down to opportunity and skillset meeting.

He'll be 19 years old at the start of the next NHL season and he's not a Celebrini-level prospect. He needs to prove he can dominate in the AHL before getting his NHL shot.

I think that I need to repost what I originally said as many seem to be missing the point.

So gven his skillet and physical attributes and if gets some chemistry with Celebrini, probably in the top 6 then he may be a possible Calder candidate next year.

Is he the favorite?

I can say no without even thinking about.

Is he likely to be finalist?

Probably not so people need to chill here a bit from a post that described a possibility from 3 different angles, his size, skillset and the possibility of having chemistry with Celebrini.

He's an extremely physically mature 2005, who is use to playing vs men.
So it's no wonder he's dunking on kids in the CHL.

But yea, give him a season in the AHL next year, then hopefully he'll be NHL ready 2026-27.
Chernyshov has never been as good as fellow 2005 Daniil But, and But will likely spend some quality time in the AHL next year too.

I would be shocked if Chernyshov cracks the Sharks next season. Not saying it's impossible, but we have a lot of young forwards and not that many spots for them. I think one season in the AHL next year makes sense.

2026-2027? Hell yeah. Definitely could see him as a Calder candidate given the circumstances you describe.

No, you're saying he's going to be a Calder candidate in a season that he likely will probably play hardly any NHL games. Unless they've changed requirements for the Calder recently, I think they expect you to play a lot of NHL games and do well in them to be a candidate.

Dude I will post it a 3rd time as you seem to be having problems reading it and I put in a big qualifier..

Here is the quote and I'll break it down as I never said that's "he's going to be a Calder candidate" absolutely or even likely

With his skillet and physical attributes
His skillset and physical skills have him advanced over many other 24 draftees.

I'm saying possible and that's in conjunction with the last point which I bolded since it appears you are mistaken about what I was talking about.

if he finds some chemistry with say Celebrini next year.

Misa was 2 PPG before Chernyshov started to play. In those 6 games Misa scored 18 points i.e. at a 3 PPG pace...
It's mutually beneficial. If Chernyshov is on a team where someone isn't giving him great set up passes or isn't able to finish the set ups he creates, then he's not doing what he's doing now. He would be successful no matter what CHL team he would have played on, but you can't just plug him into any lineup and expect 3 PPG. Does bring up an interesting situation though. If the Sharks don't win the lottery and say end up with pick 2 or 3, do they try to trade up to 1 to keep these two together? Give yourself 2 lines from the get go? Celebrini and Smith. Misa and Chernyshov.

I'm pretty sure Sharks will pick D, they have a lot of forwards and very few good defensemen.

And of course teammates matter, but I somehow doubt Misa played with scrubs before Chernyshov.

Mark Stone type player.

Guys that smart usually end up being successful in the league.

No clue how he fell to the beginnning of the 2ndI

I think what I read he had a shoulder injury and he also got severely sunburn before the millstedt camp in Florida so he did not really interview ETC
