Interesting trade. Norris is productive, good on faceoffs, and a solid 2nd liner but I've never been a big fan. His extension looks terrible but it's the price Buffalo has to pay to keep players.

Cozens has upside and I prefer him with his size, speed, and grit. To obtain a 2nd plus Cozens is pretty solid gamble for Ottawa.

Norris is better than Cozens. Had five years left at $8.0 mil. Cozens has five years left at $7.1 mil. Everybody is getting caught up in Cozens' one good season and his good attitude. But Norris is the bigger difference-maker. When healthy, he can be one of the best players on the ice, all things considered.
"When healthy" is the big difference and with his history, LTIR is almost an inevitability

Ottawa gave up all of that and they didn't go for Jack Quinn? So weird. Why wouldn't they want the Ottawa born lad?

For the Sens, he wasn't good 5-on-5 in terms of production.

Doesn't mean he will be bad in Buffalo in that respect, but he was kind of a special teams merchant in Ottawa.

I'm hoping this works out for everyone involved. There's risk on both sides.

I like norris. But his bread and butter is his two-way game and his shot.

He doesn't drive the play on his own and isn't particularly high skill, but when he's playing well he helps force turnovers. Super smart player with a deadly shot. Absolutely needs to be paired with the right line to hit his potential because he can't carry the play.

When he puts everything together he's worth his contract number but not more. It's fairly rare that he dominates a game, but it occasionally happens. He's been playing relatively well this year compared to his last couple.

He has definitely had disappearing stretches that weren't related to injuries.

Like the guy/player and hope he does well.

Whats the point though? Doesnt move the needle for either team.
Your point was they should have waited and done this at the draft. I am asking why. If both teams wanted to make the deal, what is gained from waiting until the draft? Surely Ottawa would want to get it done as quickly as possible if Norris is as fragile as some of the claims on here so there is one reason for doing it now. Also gives Norris a bunch of games which will mean next year he will be more ready to hit the ground running in whatever system Buffalo is playing, which is a reason for Buffalo wanting it done now. Can you give any reason waiting until the off season is more advantageous for either team?

Just heard the Brady Tkachuk phone call with TSN. He was obviously surprised and upset but said he would welcome the new guys. No "crying" involved.

cozens is not a centre and has zero Grit stop saying this.

i'd say it's 60-40 win for sens

WIldly inconsistent winger for wildly unhealthy centre

Always felt like Norris was overrated. Buffalo loses another trade, IMO, with the inclusion of the 2nd.
Kevyn Adams loves to trade away 2nds like they are worth nothing. He sent one back to VGK in the Eichel deal, spent one on Greenway, one on Malenstyn, and now sent one to Ott.

To the people wondering how Cozens plays? He's one of the worst forwards in the league defensively. He's best offensively on the rush. Probably a better winger than center. He's soft physically and mentally.

I dont see the point from either team. Neither is better today. Buffalo isnt close to competing nor tanking. Ott likely will miss the playoffs this season. Its a random do nothing lateral move for both teams.

Neither of these players are rentals. Its just a random whatever deal.
