Ottawa just committed robbery here.

Kevyn Adams just made Norris, an injury prone guy, his number one Center and gave up a younger player and a 2nd round pick to do it….

Steal of the day so far.
Steal of the day. These takes kill me. Has anyone here seen Cozens the last two years. He is terrible five on five and nothing special on special team. Just a mediocre player

Interesting move for Buffalo. Norris is an upgrade but given his injury history I'm surprised he's the piece they'd settle on for Cozens. Maybe the offers just weren't there.

I kinda like it for Ottawa. Maybe thinking too highly of Cozens but there's still plenty of upside there, you also get younger & a more reliable player health-wise.

So you think that getting an older, often injured player and a guy who was on waivers while adding a second rounder and a depth defenseman to Cozens is a good move for Buffalo?

That take kills me.

Lot of risk for both teams here, which maybe makes it more palatable for each side.

Cozens getting his head on straight in Ottawa is definitely a possibility, but I've never been all that impressed even when he was playing well. I just don't think he's that good.

Norris basically a humpty dumpty situation. Can be an effective player when healthy but the state of his shoulder is going to make it hard for him to be a quality top 6 C in the future.

I’m not sure where this sens got the best player take is coming from - based on what exactly? Healthier yes but outside 1 good year 3 years ago cozens has done zilch

Both players haven't achieved anything in a few years.

I don't think the Sens got better, but I think (and hope) that 2nd rounder allows us to add a player that does (make the Sens better)

Cozens is one of the most overrated players in the league. Hes had one "decent" season in his 5 years in the league.

And that was the year where everyone on the sabres had a career high. Even Jeff Skinner had 82 points. He has failed to produce and play defence 5 on 5. You cant expect to do anything if hes in your top 6 unless if you have wingers to carry him.

Some context:

Norris turns 26 in May. The Sabres are the youngest team in the league. They need "older" players.

Gilbert is a borderline NHL defenseman, #8 on a mediocre team's depth chart. He's waiver fodder himself.

Cozens has 27 ES points

Norris has 18. He has 1 primary assist at even strength this year...

The Sabres are 3rd in the NHL in 5-v-5 goal scoring (with a game in hand on the 2 teams ahead of them). Cozens is probably more a product of the team in that regard than the other way around. He has some talents, but he is not a smart hockey player.

I’m more bummed about losing Gilbert than Cozens at this point, and 3 years ago I confessed that he was becoming my favorite Sabre in a long time.

When he stripped Bergeron and setup the the game-winner immediately after was one of the best plays I’ve ever seen. He dropped off so much and has been a huge disappointment since then. Seems like a change of scenery kinda deal that could work out well for the Sens, but it wasn’t gonna happen in Buffalo.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned that I d like to add, is that he has a great shot when open. He seems like a good dude and I wish him the best in Ottawa and wherever his career takes him.

You're not adding any skill or playmaking at all by adding Cozens. Nor has he been good defensively. Toughness and two way play were supposed to be his game but never materialized.

He's big and fast, works hard and can be good at carrying the puck in good in transition, only to lose the puck once challenged because he doesnt have the hands to dangle. He hasn't shown the aptitude at center except for short stretches. At wing with less responsibility you might have a player.

Change of scenery was needed for both players.
Relative to Norris, Dylan is Joe Thornton when it comes to set up ability

Yeah I agree it's not some slam dunk case, just my opinion.

I like how Cozens can play mean. I know Sabres fans have called him soft and unmotivated, but I would bet on that instinct for violence to come back as he gets older, and with a fresh start on a new team.

Norris is really skilled, and if he gets healthy maybe this is a win-win. They're both good players, I just have this feeling Cozens will become the newest story of the Sabres moving on from a player that they end up regretting. I wanted him on the Habs tbh.

All the guys that have blossomed off the Sabres were good players ON the Sabres. Cozens has been pretty dogshit for 2 years now.

I'm totally apathetic to this trade.

I do think if Sens are smart they will put Cozens on wing and tell him not to leave the front of the net.

If you keep the puck off his stick when he isn't shooting he should be fine.

Norris is healthy.

He's played a much more physical and in-your-face brand of hockey this year and his shoulder is holding up.

He's had some injuries this year, but nothing alarming.
