He didn’t want to move West and Detroit didn’t want to get a goalie without an extension in place. Boston’s options were very limited. What happened to never trade a goalie within division ?
I mean...how is that meh for Ottawa?I guess it's a fair deal?
Pretty meh on both ends.
That's exactly what I'm thinking. I actually think korpi numbers will be better then linus. Can't help thinking Korpisalo playing with the Bruins in front of him will be a lot more like the goalie that played for Columbus when John Tortorella was the coach and the guy that showed some resurgence with the Kings before going to Ottawa.
And wouldn't be surprised if Ullmark's numbers take a dip playing in front of the Senators.
Honestly, good for korpisalo if that happens. It's not his fault dorion dumped a ton of cash at him. It's slightly his fault that he was a statistical tire fire, but...yeah, we were a mess.
I checked it up because I was certain you were wrong. Turns out you're correct. That's crazy, I had a totally different read on it watching the teams play, but numbers don't lie.
Go take a look at last season advanced stats and you'll see that Ottawa had better numbers then Boston, what saved Boston on many nights is their goaltenders and now one of them is a Senator. You'll a huge improvement in Ottawa's goals against number next season.Korp will be much better playing 30 games and a defensively stronger team
A lot of goalies numbers will dip if they are playing in front of their team.
Friedman just said there is no extension coming and that Ullmark is prepared to play out the season.
.907 and the Sens waltz into the playoffs, that’s unheard of numbers in OttawaUllmark will give 2.70 and 0.907 for the Sens
Then he'll dip from Ottawa as fast as possible.
Because if Ullmark won't sign an extension then the Sens can trade him at the deadline and likely recoup most of what they gave up -- and have the added benefit of ditching Korpisalo for next to nothing. If linus leaves after one year can anyone here explain to me how they won this deal. Before you say cap dump on korpi the sens are paying 25 percent of his contract and makes his aav more palatable. The 1st round pick is sweet and kastelic isnt a bad 4th liner .
Anton Forsberg had like .917 couple years ago..907 and the Sens waltz into the playoffs, that’s unheard of numbers in Ottawa
Linus ullmark still put up 915 sv%s behind a brutal sabres team.No he's not. He played in front of a team that's good defensively. You'll see he's a good 1A this season, but not a true starter. Markstrom is a legit starter. Ottawa got a better goalie, but he'll be in the .900s in Ottawa instead of .920s. Ottawa fans think Pinto is a shutdown center. I think Staios knows better though and will try to address it.
Cuz buffalo was known for their great defensive systemI'd say it's almost a certainty. Korpisalo was just fine with Torts in Columbus. He's not a high danger goalie. He's a system goalie. Ullmark is too.
Okay some context is needed. Ullmark's GSAA was in the negatives on the Sabres. Sabres were awful, but they played a system back then that limited high quality chances while allowing a shit ton of volume, which naturally inflates a goalie's save percentage. Lehner had an excellent save percentage on the Sabres ffs.Linus ullmark still put up 915 sv%s behind a brutal sabres team.
Markstrom has had a .905 or lower sv% in 3 of last 4 seasons. Ullmark has had exactly one season at .905 his next lowest his rookie year at .913 and otherwiae always .915 or better
Ullmark has 68.4 goals saved above average for his career in 247 games while markstrom is negative for his career. And again- ullmark wasnt always a bruin, he spent several years on a terrible buffalo team
Meanwhile markstroms career gsaa is negative.
Korpisalo had an amazing playoffs one year, but that shirt sampel doesnt make him a vezina type. He also 2 great years but no where close to vezina but otherwise a lot of below avverage seasons. It wasn't that long ago korpi Columbus days standing on his head.
