Speaking of owners - this whole Jerry Jones vs Jimmy Johnson thing is shameful as well. Jerry Jones is such a complete crooked prick.

I have to admire the Padres. They're a team in a tiny market in a sport where market size is everything, and yet when it's time to go for it, they go for it. Unlike the Rockies who will spend another year doing absolutely nothing of consequence.

You mean alienating your franchises best ever player, then paying to move him during his prime, and then signing an over the hill replacement to replace him wasn’t the way to go about things? :sarcasm:

Seriously though, there was only one team...ONE GODDAMNED TEAM...not to make a single, solitary trade at the MLB deadline. ONE.

Again, not the worst-run franchise in sports. But definitely the laziest

Well...maybe.

At the very least shouldn't they have tried to trade Kuhl or one of the many other players they'll be losing for nothing this offseason for something? Anything? I mean, they did literally nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Sure they could have but that's not their style. Chances of getting something useful from these trades is quite low and maybe they want to sign some of them. I think the only guy who might have made sense to trade was Cron but such a trade could make it hard to get guys to take team friendly deals like he had. The other surplus vets are barely worth anything when their contracts are taken into consideration.

Tim Patrick tore his ACL today.
Such a bummer. was looking forward to seeing this receiver core as a group healthy for at least most of the season. We don't even get to preseason game #1 and we lose one of our core offensive guys. Sucks.

Do you trust the Monforts to do anything competent on a spending spree?

I can’t believe people still defend/support the Rockies around here. Absolutely amazing.
There's a difference between defending them and seeing their point of view. Doesn't really matter if we agree with them or not, they own the team and get to make these decisions.

Let's not give them credit--they don't HAVE a style. There is no plan, no blueprint in place. That much was clear when they went cheap virtually everywhere but then ponied up big money for an aging and rickety Kris Bryant.

The only credit I'll give them is finding some diamonds in the rough like Cron and Joe, but they'll find a way to screw that up soon enough.

We may have to accept their laziness and incompetence, it doesn't mean we have to like it.

I'm still a Rockies fan but they and baseball on a larger scale (especially under Manfred) have whittled the game down to the point where I'm not very interested in the sport these days. Feels very much like the Nuggets back in the day when they were the most irrelevant franchise in the NBA. Maybe someday they'll turn it around but not until Monfort is gone. He's the problem.

Monfort going to own this team a long time I fear. Even if they did some sort of teardown and sold off assets I don't think many have faith in him and his hand picked lieutenants to create a strong contender. They sell 30k tickets by virtue of the ballpark and visiting fans so being competitive at home is all they care about. What happens on the road and the playoffs they seem to just shake off as something they won't ever figure out.

The Monforts are never letting go of the Rockies and they will never spend enough to actually lose money and need to sell them.

The moment of truth for the organization will come when they need to rehab Coors Field and the Monforts try to get public money. I’m guessing the vote will go their way, but if it does we’ll be locked in to Rockies futility for the next 40 years under Sterling Monfort’s inevitable reign.

Yep unfortunately this is the truth.

They will be the laughing stock of the league until the Monforts are no longer involved which will likely be quite some time.

The only way to attempt to get them out is for them to consistently lose money.

I for one refuse to give them a cent. And haven't for at least 3 seasons now. But one person makes no difference. Couldn't even really tell you more than maybe 2 to 3 guys on the roster any more.

I don't think the situation is COMPLETELY hopeless...though it's pretty sad.

Monfort (and I usually just refer to Dick Monfort, Charles effectively drank himself into a useless figurehead role, I don't think he plays any part in the team's operations any longer) finally listened and fired Bridich after the fans didn't relent following the Arenado trade. We'll see if continued apathy toward the product finally forces his hand, but it ain't like MLB is otherwise a watchable product. Manfred is going out of his way to ruin the game.
