When Sox hit a bunch of homers=win...
But ...Anderson has become only a singles hitter=where did the extra bases and even some Homer's disappear t And BTW last night hexwas Mr. Bobble hands...fumbled 3 grounders= ugh!
Moncada= great fielder at 3B but cannot hit his weight...no clutch on RBI chances...
A.J.Pollock= useless at pkaye
Harrison = meh at plate.
Grandal = worst waste of a battery ever tgevamoubt of futility he has shown...Power drop off a cliff.. cannot get baljs out of infield if he even makes cobtact=100% black hoke in the lineup.
However looks like EJ is getting his stroke back ...Power starting to come = thus is good.
When Robert returns will we get the "MVP candidate" version or the guy swing at balks out of the zone and in the dirt?
Sheets has piwer..if only he coukd make more contact.. I think he coukd improve his batting average and hit more out if he made some changes to his stance and pre-swing motion...He at times is too late on swings dueto his waggle of his bat in the air before he swibgaxatvit...woukd live to see him calm down with a bat yhat is still...wouldcgive that extra fraction of a second to be reader when pitcher releases the ball..If hevoutscmore bat on valk his power will get balks through the infield and over the fences more often.
Akso I think hecshoukd change his angle to face pitchersxa bit more straight on than he is angled sideways and back as he stands now..Be more kihecGates Brown used to swing from the left side many years ago...He made lots of contact and got lots of hits doing that ..butcSheetsxhas norevoiwer so his sheer strength woukd power out more honevrunsctoo.
I am not an expert batting coach but I have watched MLB a lot time..and I think Shedts coukd be vastly better if only we had a batting coach who knew how to fix a few flaws...but nothing has changed all season.
I MONCADA akso needs to change his stance.. He is more of a slasher than the uppercut style of Shedts.. So a more straight on facing stance also shoukd help him get more hits..
I just recall Gates Brown having g a very successful and different stance than most lefty batters...I think itbketsctgevhitter see tge balk better axsplitcsecobd faster...
So tgebointbis ifcsonethongbus not working to max effect why not try changing something g ..like a stance or other things hindering contact.
This battibgvcoach is dumb...Sticking with same things that do not succeed often enough.
As for Grandal..I am notcsure stancevis tge problem...rather he has list his power and looks almost afraid to hit ..swinging late..timing messed up..Flailing and getting weak infiield ground balks...He just looks lije he has "lost it" and gone over the cliff.. Do not know if any batting coach suggesting changing his swing wing motion can actually restore him to usefulness.
AND if his bat is futile then his value is not great because he is lousy throwing runners out.
Do not know how many more years Abreu can or will play ...
Do not know if Colas will get inserted iin RF nex seadon or till 2024 season.but he coukd be tge RF sokution such that Sox do NOT needctobteade forxRF position.
So keep Shee/to tgere for now then try helping hom get more efficient at the plate. IF TGEY can get more contact moreviften from him then he coud be LH B DH in 2024 sharing duties with RH B DH Abreu in a platoon DH tgatxseadon...
Then Vaughn plays 1B full-time and Cokes in RF ...
Meantime they need:
1. A 2nd baseman who can field and hit .
2. A 3rd Baseman if Moncada still cannot hit like expected*
3 A catcher with power.. Like Seby has hit forvbetterxaverage since being brought up this sesson again ..butcstill we have to getca catcher contributing Homer's and power.
4.If Anderson remains only a singles hitter plusclousyvfoekser then maytinectinectobtradevhom whike perceived value still high ...
Notcsurevifctgey shoukd nakecdrastic moves beforec2023 season on these items or give tgese flawed vets 1 more chance nextcseadon then a big dump off if we getcsame old.. sMe old.
But by 2025 I think we need a whike new infield....No Moncada...No Anderson...New 2B and Vaughan at 1Bf ull-time for sure.
Thus time with our current infield vis either t
remainder if this season IIR 1 more kick at it nex cseson but with a new 2B brought in...but if a 1 morectryvnextcseon fails miserably with this infield then changes should cone in 2924 ..and certainly none but Vaughan at 1B should remain from the infield vetsxwe have there today
Cojas willsolvectge RF problem and once Abreu goes or retires Shedts if he progresses atcthevpkatecshoukd be fill timexDH by 2025 .
As to catcher..I am not sure we have any potebtial sokution from the pipeline to provide fearsome power and RBi reliability.
Next draft...we shoukL be prioritizing catcherxwithcour early picks.. selecting for good bat and power plus good catching skills..
EJ despite his defensive flaws inLF stays because we need his power bat.
ROBERTin CF must show he can stay healthy...So far we are getting Mr.Brittle ...he willbe no good to us out ofvthe lineup so much..but still young so gets a few more easons if he can play most of the games or not.
Just in case load up on CF and RF draftbpicks in 2023 andx2024 drafts (Colas coukdxalso play CF) butvn case we need to trade Mr Brittle we need to have anither star to insert.
Robert will also need to show more plate discipline...not swing wildly at balls in the dirt or2 feet out of the strike zone.
Anyway...many of these underachieving vets are
on the clock to prove they are worth keeping through future sesdins.
Pitching...limited expiryvdatesvon some old starters...
Lynn = if keeps getting blown out in remainder of this sesdon =gone nextcsesson?
Cueto=pitched well but given age just 1 more sesdon in 2023?
CEASE= staple long term..
KOPECH...still raw ...gotta see continuing improvement next season...
Giolito...his form has faljennoffvtge cliff...shake...lost his dominant command...doubtsxaboutvhusxsustaibalilitycas rekiabkeclowercE R.A starter...velocity must cone back...cannotvghrowxso many pitches...must ladt longer onto 6th otv7th with few runs allowed.. real doubts creeping on..does not look like tge same co nfident pitcher we saw when he changed and shortened his arm motion...also looks way off balance...looks like a mess now.Doubts about his fiturecefectiveness unless he gets his form back.
Needs to develop anitgervoutvpitchto vary from tge change-up...Must fix his slider..Must get better velocity of fastball. Real concern about him.
Next season Crochet back...make him a starter?
Bummer back in September..
So bullpen looks strong next year..
Development of Banks and LAMBERT a good surprise...
So bullpen looks great next sesson if everyone signed.
