So many key players for the Sox have been injured, regressed significantly, or both.

There's not much they can do about that.

Not much that can be done about Moncada forgetting how to hit a baseball, Eloy continuing to underperform/be injured, Robert not meeting expectations in the power department, and Giolito/Lynn regressing with their stuff.

Moncada is the most fragile player I’ve ever seen. It’s unreal. Like…how can you be this physically weak/soft and be involved in professional sports? What does he do during the offseason? Why can’t he play one game without experiencing pain?

Giolito throwing cream puffs...too may Homer's plus the big inningvwhere he collapses ...loss if focus or has he lost velocity and accuracy to throw where he wants it...too many fat pitches ...20 Runs over lastc20 andc2/3innings= HELP!

Total regression.

Josh Donaldson may be a d-bag, but it's looking more and more like he might of been on to something with Giolito.
His spin rate is down around 200rpm on his fastball, but even last season it was basically identical to the previous 2 seasons and they banned the sticky stuff last year. Hes lost a significant amount of velo on his fastball though, and that makes his changeup worse as well. Kinda weird to see him lose about a full mph on his fastball avg since 2020 when he's only 27. Doesnt bestow a lot of confidence in a guy who will want a big, multi-year deal.

His issue is lost of velocity not spin rate (it's down sure, but he pitched even better the second half last year after they banned it).

Beterbiev crushed Smith in only two rounds for the light heavyweight unification.

Was hoping for more of a show than that on the rare number of matches I watch.

Can’t stress enough how big tomorrow’s game is for the Sox. Coming back to win this series @HOU after getting embarrassed in game 1 would be HUGE. Might really help kickstart a resurgence, especially with TA’s looming return. I still have my doubts about this season, but hey at least there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

Makes sense. He has had some good stretches since the umpire checks started, but there's probably been as much or more bad stretches. Eh who knows.

I hope he gets it together, and his velocity as said above.

Well mlb draft in July...White Sox draft 26th....they probably take a pitcher but Wrong !

You cannot go with the likes of Reese McGuire in your batting order
. With such a black hole in the lineup innings end prematurely...Need good hitting catcher who also is at least average or better than average defensively...great ifvyou get good bat and elite defense bit not easy to find.
This draft flushvwith goid catching prospects from colkegevranks plus some good ones from high school..

Notcsure if I I agree how Basebalk America ranks them.

There seemsvtonbrvsone consensusctgatcat least 3 catchers could in round 1...all ofvthem exoected to go well before White Sox pick at 26.

Does this mean they shoukd wait till later rounds to draft a catcher?

The thing is there is no guarantee that thec3 consensus picks at catcher will turn out better than sone taken later and there could be an argument that for sure 2 they might have ranked higher than those 3 based on how well he did in 2022 ,shouldn't be bypassed i round 1 by an astute team....how can you not put Duke Catcher Brendan Tinsman into a round 2 conversation...even at the top of any list letcalone to be grabbed at #26... .349 batting average ...24 HR 69 RBI ....994 fielding % ...led ACc in runners thrown out by catchers....710 slugging%...has size 6'2 225......but instead they put Kevin Oaxaca,Logan Tanber and Daniel Sisal as the 3 consensus catchers going off the boards all well before Sox pick at 26...good...let them go...but if Sox pass on taking a legit big hitter with power and good defense at catcher like Tinsman illness some astute teamahead if them takes him off beforevthey can get him then Hahn/Getz must be fired..you cannotbignore the production and the defense he put up sufficient to be a semi-finalist for the Buster Posey award as best catcher is college bsde ball.

It is not like the Sox farm system is building with tope grade catching prospects...

So forget pitchers...In many cases the big arms cannot get control or becone head cases under pressure..

Instead Sox need to desperately upgrade the catcher position on the farm with actual threats to tgenoposcat the plate and with at least average to above ageverage defense

But1 is never enough.Next 3rounds they should draft more catchers..Corner the market...hedge your bets...

After that draft alk the pitchersxand RF and 2B guys you want to bolster the farm.

But start with fixing the black hole that is the catching prospect depth in the farm system pipeline.

So you cannot get parade or Tanner or Sousa...no guarantee they will be better than Tinsman or other catcherscypu draft in the 2nd,3rd and 4tj rounds...

I know thiscwoukd beca wild strategy.. but unless you want more of tge same bums we have had at catcher or your strategy is to supply that via trDes...you had better start crafting a fill the catcher prospect need holes in your farm system...Indulge me...Draft 4 straight rounds of catchers..Rspecialky on a good crop such as this draft even after the consensusvtop 3 gooff the board before the zsox draft.

Some catchers of interest through rounds 2,3,and may even 4 are:
Kody Huff .,Stanford ..athletic......above average arm...hit well and for power in 2022 but priority 2022 not as impressive at the plate...question did he have a 1 off breakout year or is this his potential norm now? Smaller catcher.
.
Matt McCormick...a local (born in Oak Park Ill.) Catching prospect...good bat ,power and defense...6'2 225
Yet ranked only at #200 overall probably because it looks like he did not play in 2092(not sure if it was i jury or otger reading but I could not find any 2022 stats on him. But the scouting report seems like he should be higher based on ability.

Anthony Tulimero Houston..
Good batting stats
..good defense ...Average size 6"0 195..

There're are also possibilities with tgec3chighestcratedchigh school catcher prospects ...Maybe Sox take 1 of these younger ones to develop...But they could goid off late 2nd to early 3rd round ...so grab quickly in 2nd if you want one of them.

Jimmy Cooks (Oklahoma)only has an average arm but is a terrific hitter in Average and doubles and can run...probably goes 3rd orc4th round.

Sleeper pickbat catcher could be Kamehameha H.S. catcher Beau Sylvester...raw power..solid arm..

Tgesexare justcsone of the intriguing possibilities...but tgebointbus Sox desperately need to upgrade tge catcher position in the pipeline with prospectscto getvexcotrdxabout...not to draft catchers in late rounds as afterthoughts...

No...coner the marker grab as many goid catcher prospectsxas you can i the 1st 4 rounds...do.not let other teams take them.Deliberstely go for this strategy...If 2 bust maybe 1 becomes a superstar and thenother a good backup or depth batyk g otddrf threat.. You do notvesnt no offense catchers lije McGuire there to kill innings off ...You nrrdca threat from the catcher position.

Yes Soxxakeays need more young pitching too..but Take pitchers rounds 5 through 12 ...surely if even 2 of those 8 selections turns into a a goidxstRter or reliever that us fine. But you cannot expect catchers taken in the 18th round to be come great stars..must grab off the best in 2st 4 rounds.

Do tgat this drFt and maybe next draft you go back to catchers in the later roundsxas Fterthoughts instead of prime early round targets...because you went heavy on catchers in early rounds this 2022 draft.

But no...dumb Sox probably go pitcher heavy.. and pick the wrong g guys who end up with never devising...or become head cases when oresdurevon with men on base ...or end up with control problems or Tommy John surgery...and if Sox draft pitcher heavy in early rounds they forfeit getting talent off the far far more limited selections available at catcher.

Just my advice for tfe Sox...it seems like a goid crkp of catchers for first 200 picks...Go target and grab ofc what you can get at leastvin first 4 rounds ...stock the pipeline with goid catching prospects...plenty of rounds left to find different carieties of pitching. To develop...But top catching talent is not going to be tgere in the teen rounds.. So grab as early as you can.

If it turns out all your Ely round catcher prospects turn out as great mlb players you have very valuable ammo for trades as greT catching talents are always in short supply to mlb teams.

Theyv are wirth Gold.

Frankly Grandal has not lived upto expectation since we got him...McGuire simply is an easy out for the opos.

Horrible black hole at the position and we do not have a savuour coming from the farm...Grandal akso getting old.

Time to invest in the catcher position...Go have atvit in the first 4 rounds. TAKE 4 catchers over that span...then throw your darts on the wall to find more pitching,a RF with power and average ans a 2B that can hit plus field..

You cannot get everything in 2 draft.

But for gosh sakes catching has got be prioritized in this draft..

Not saying we find the next Johnny Bench but anything like likeybbetter that what Grandal and McGuire produce forvthe lineup.

I hope he gets it together, and his velocity as said above.
Giolito said he's not getting on top of his fastballs, and is getting cutter action. Would explain the drop in velocity and the meatballs.

Vaughn’s batting average is now .330 which is 5th in all MLB.

That’s gonna be a very dangerous top 3 for a very long time. I wouldn’t break that up at all, not even to fit in a lefty. If Grandal gets hot again you can bat him 4th and Abreu 5th or the other way around. I don’t mind 3 or 4 righties in a row to begin the lineup.
