Had a seizure while driving about 2 hrs ago. Went through a guardrail down a steep embankment(think like 30°). Was gonna go home but when i got there I realized my back and hips hurt so the cop gave me a ride to the hospital. Otherwise I’m fine. CRV is totaled. Apparently I climbed up the embankment on my own but have no recollection. I’m just, idk right now. I take medication but the fact that this still happened scares the shit out of me.

Holy crap!

Glad to hear you came out of that unscathed. Seatbelt on I assume?

Take care of yourself.

Yikes! Glad you're still with us!

Driving is the most dangerous thing we do on a daily basis, even at the best of times.

My Tesla saved lives on the highway last week - I was driving home on the highway at 6 pm, pitch black with no moon and cloudy. I noticed a weird shape on the road ahead of me, and suddenly the autopilot started braking HARD.

It took a second for my brain to realize someone was pulling an oversized trailer WITH NO LIGHTS - it was made of wood (absorbing light) and covered the trucks' brake lights and even signal lights - and they were making a left turn onto a mile road, and were stopped in a 100 zone, waiting for the oncoming traffic to pass - no turning lane or anything.

It was also a touch icy - so if I had to rely on my own reaction time it would have been way too late. I would have pushed him into the oncoming traffic (2 SUV's coming through). There was also someone behind me that was freaked out about me braking so hard - if I hadn't been driving, they would have hit the trailer.

I was really shaken up - I had just been reminiscing with friends on FB about our college friends and also a mentor who have died in accidents in winter.

Anyway, stay safe, everyone! (And always drive with lights... Sheesh)

Yeh seatbelt of course. Somehow there were skid marks going off the road so I must have applied the brakes or something. Just a surreal experience. So glad i have no memory of it or I'd be far more shaken up.

Yeh people don’t realize how dangerous driving is. It’s not like racing or some form where you’ll just walk away. Race cars are built to take those accidents.

That’s absolutely insane. Glad you’re ok too.

I don't have a Tesla, but My Ford has the auto-braking feature... It's occasionally has braked as people are going say 60 km's on the Trans Canada and I'm going 120...

I never thought of that scenario... good to know the technology helped save you...

Good to know you are okay.... :thumbu:

I take 500mg of off brand Keppra. They’ll probably up my dosage. I’m supposed to see my neurologist in March so I’m going to see if i can push that up.

Do you know why you’ve had seizures? I had an EEG done years ago and he said it was because I have extra electrical activity in my brain.

There is a huge fancy name for it but basically i have a area in the brain that bleeds once in a while, unfortunately it's too deep for surgery so i take Phenyton sodium every day to prevent the seizures . I still get the aura sometimes though, funny feelings i call them and really bad migraines that are really bad but i have medication for those when needed.

You definitely should up your medication a little for now. Do you lose your drivers license for a while automatically now? When i had my seizure they took it away automatically and i had to fight for months to get it back.

By Georgia law I’m not supposed to drive for 6 months. But it’s not something they really enforce. Other states are much stricter.

Jesus I turn my attention away for a second and the boys in this thread go to hell in a hand basket.

@Duke749 i am glad you walked away from it. Scary shit and I will put you in my kids feeling circle. We have been pitching shit outs lately sending out vibes to people.

@FonRiesen I am glad your cars technology helped you avert a disaster. Kind of freaky you had been reminiscing about other accident’s.

@Jets 31 glad you have managed your health. Sounds like it’s intense.

Lately I have had shit blowing up all around me. A buddy from High school died of liver failure Monday, another good friend is in a coma as we speak.

Take care of your health my friends.

Well that's ok then, here in Manitoba it's automatically suspended for 6 months but can be forever . I had my Neurologist and my doctor send letters to the Manitoba License board and i still had to fight to get it back, almost a year in total. Let me tell you my friends really got sick of hearing can you come and pick me up AND take me home.

Now my big problem is getting a new car. But car prices are outrageous right now. I had a 2014 crv with less then 60,000 miles on it. No way i get something even close to that nice. :(

Fortunately, since you will be taking the responsible approach and not driving for the next 6 months (or longer if that's what it takes to sort out your medical issue) even though enforcement there is lax, it's not a purchasing decision you have to rush into.

Seriously, it was just blind luck that you went off the road without hitting someone else. Imagine if you had taken out an entire family in their mini-van, or a school bus full of kids. You would have a lot more to worry about than current car prices.

Meaning what? You're usually much more articulate than this. If you've got a beef with what I posted, spell it out. Just to be clear, I'm not begrudging him his good luck on this occasion. If he chooses to drive when both common sense and the law says he shouldn't, that will change. I'm trying to send a tough love message here that will hopefully keep him and other people safe. That's all I'm going to say on this.

In general and especially in the sports and sports-fandom worlds, telling someone they got lucky very often carries a pejorative tone, with a heavy implication that the recipient was undeserving. Now I see you have clarified here that you intended no such subtext, and that's fine; I'm certainly not going to accuse you of lying or falsely act as if I have the authority to tell you 'what you really meant'.

I was just emphasizing that luck isn't a 'thing' that undeserving people get at the expense of other people who deserve it. That's all.

Wow @Duke749 that sounds very scary. I am glad you made it out okay and are looking into further medical support. That sounds like a terrifying incident.
