My wife believes everything eventually leads to death so I think its either fridge or I get the electric chair. When I get a chance I will try that though it sounds way better.

I'll tell you a story from when we were visiting my wife's relatives in Germany. I discovered that the day's meal of leftover pork roast had been left sitting out on a table in the basement since the previous night. Yes, the basement was a little cooler but far from what I would consider to be a safe food storage temperature. I just said, I'm not eating any of that. They tried to assure me that they do this all the time and it was perfectly safe, but I was having none of it. Well, nobody got food poisoning but I'm convinced that's only because the German people have built up a tolerance to food spoilage organisms through centuries of unsafe practices.

Covid story - two of my kids caught it on or very close to Christmas eve and tested positive with a rapid antigen test, so they quarantined for 6 days in our basement. One was completely asymptomatic, the other with mild nasal congestion. Three days ago they tested negative (twice in 24 h), and levelled up to the real world (main floor of the house - those were some happy children).

Three days ago I tested positive with a very light T band using a (province-given) rapid antigen test, banished to the basement.:rolleyes::laugh: I am completely asymptomatic. No fever, no congestion, no loss of taste, no sneezing, no headache.

All of us are double vaccinated, and I'm also boosted.

On a scale of 1-10 for symptomatology, I can't even give this virus a one. If this is Omicron, its not bad at all.

Woah, that's really dry air. Scientifically speaking, the ideal level should be 45-55% - both too low or too high humidity can increase the spread of viruses in particular, and that dry air can wreak havoc on skin. We have 2 portable humidifiers running 24/7 and a built-in humidifier in our furnace and can barely keep our Rh at 40-45%, but we're doing our best. I miss my floor heat from my old house... NG forced air heat is terrible for humidity.

As someone who grew up in a city averaging 80-90% humidity... yeah wow.

My Canada trip absolutely wrecked my skin, first time ever having to moisturise in my adult life.

Had raclette for NYE at a friend's here in France... also politely declined the roasted pork left out on the kitchen bench.

Nope that's disgusting, no way a bug or 2 didn't make a nice little home in that pork roast over night in the basement.

One quick follow up. I had saved two pieces and ate them last night and its probably the best day after pizza I have had. Usually crust on almost all pizza doesn't do well on the quick microwave reheat but their crust really holds up well.

The garlic butter is the trick to the crusts not sucking. My goldie will always be mooching when I'm eating and usually I give her a bit of the crust but with this shop, I chew the top half off and give her the bottom ;)

That is great I am sure she loves it.

@Jets 31

Thanks Dude. All is well - completely asymptomatic - tomo I want to try another rapid antigen test.

I anticipate a rosey report, but of course I am a relentless optimist.

So I got Covid December 17th. Showed Symptoms 21st and got a positive rapid test on the 21st. I was tested at the Covid site on St Anne’s on the 24th and just received my positive test result today so 12 days. Now keep in mind there have been holidays in this block of time.

It does tell you how stretched our hard working health care professionals are. Try to be patient with them if you can. They are obviously doing the best they can under heavy pressure and stress.

In my youth as a casino dealer, I've experienced my share of "angry, hateful customer base" stress.

Sometimes, I'd go home from a rough shift and spend a 10 minute shower staring at the wall, waiting for the smell of second hand smoke to go away. Once, mid-shift, I even broke in tears as I just couldn't take one particularly cruel player's barbs anymore. It was tough on me, not gonna lie.

Well.

I think about the horrible conditions and the shit and abuse and anger and vitriol and the immane burden when you realize that 95% of the people whose lives you are trying to save have spent all their free time shitting on you and shitting on your industry. It's a vector I might have shared in direction, but definitely NOT in magnitude.

And so, multiplying my own minuscule experience's magnitude by a factor of eleventy hojillion or so, to account for what these healthcare workers have gone through in these years? Not just the far greater job rigours but the far greater shit and abuse from the ignorant fringe of clients? It absolutely blows my mind, trying to reckon with the strength of character and fortitude and dedication they have.

And if speaking to them in soft and kind tones with a heartfelt "thank you for your hard work" will help them through that morass just a bit? It is the absolute bare minimum of effort I can do, and that we should all do.

And then, when the dust settles, maybe vote for politicians who will make it a priority to give these people pay and work conditions that reflect what they are worth.

But one step at a time :)

I try to do my best on this suggestion. When I got my Covid test I sincerely thanked the people who I met in the facility and told them how much I appreciated them. I cracked a few jokes to try to keep it light which probably made it worse for them. Honestly I was struck by how calm and cool they all were that day.

When was the last time you worked as a dealer. A former Girlfriend of mine did that job back in about 2000.

Very true.

How many years did it take until you had your last “restaurant nightmare”. I can only imagine when you are actually dealing with people’s health which would be next level. I have often thought what it must been like to witness the horrors of war. What those young men and women have seen. Also first responders, people think the fire fighter gig is easy but as a kid our family drove up on a head on accident aftermath on the highway in Saskatchewan and despite my parents best efforts I saw things a kid should never see and I can remember it perfectly even today more than 50 years later.

I quit doing it full-time in 1999 when I started with the Calgary Police, but went back to it for about a year to moonlight for some extra money in the mid 2000s. It's about as fantastic as a service industry job gets, and if you have anything resembling card sense, it's functionally very easy. As I'm sure your ex spoke of, the true challenge is in dealing with the client base ;). True Story: I once made a dealer break into tears because I *didn't* yell at her during a horrible unlucky streak. Talk about Stockholm Syndrome!

THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!! Wooooo!!!!!:banana::banana:
In the same year, the Atlanta Braves win the World Series and the Georgia Bulldogs win the National Championship(and the bombers won)!!! If that can happen, the Jets can win the Stanley Cup!!! It’s possible guys!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised with the Bulldogs win. I kept waiting for Bama to take over but the Bulldogs D was relentless.

congrats!!

Just came over to pick up my kid at the ODR (Winakwa) and it’s packed. Great to finally get a nice night where people can be outside. Mild winter weather can be so beautiful.

I think we were all a bit surprised. Stetson Bennet winning a Natty was not something anyone probably foreseen. I was at work(i work at a prominent sports bar in Georgia) and when they picked off Young’s pass to seal the game, the place absolutely exploded, and when he scored I let loose and started running around the restaurant! Haha Such a surreal moment and I can only pray we get that with the Jets in our lifetime. The Braves winning and the Dawgs winning means so much to people down here. It’s been a generation since the last and I can’t even imagine how much it would mean to Winnipeg.

EDIT: One more thing… Saban and Kirby shaking hands was such a huge moment in college football. Saban looked like a proud father and Kirby finally got over the hump. :puppy:
