As of Feb. 28, no athletes—both active or retired—may be used in advertising and marketing for Internet Gaming in Ontario, with the exception of advocating for responsible gambling practices.

The same rules apply to the use of celebrities, role models, social media influencers, entertainers, cartoon figures and symbols who would “likely be expected to appeal to minors,” the ACGO said.

Seems like there is potential for grey areas here.

That will cut into Gretzky’s income.

Ontario is banning online gambling ads involving active or retired athletes.

Why was this ever allowed in the first place? It was sleazy enough when it was just retired athletes. How anybody involved in running professional leagues ever thought it was okay having current athletes promoting gambling in sports let alone their own sport is incredible to me and shows just how lost they are. They aren’t even pretending they have integrity anymore.

Unfortunately a lot of the glory years Oilers stopped even pretending about that years ago, showing their warts and all. So many stories one can tell about Glenn Anderson alone and I like the player but as a person, despicable.

But like I said Gretz being involved heavily in gambling advertising after the Yotes gamblegate incident is just beyond the pale. I mean advertise ANYTHING else Wayne. Specifically with Wayne I think he's no longer even capable of embarrassment. Theres been a steady string of it and lets not forget he didn't mind getting riches from a career criminal owner who was bilking seniors out of their lifesavings or the one here who was lowballing his workers in industry like Ebenezer Scrooge. There isn't a business person either in the community that wasn't stiffed by Pocklington. But jumping from Puck to Mcnall? oh my lord.

I think a lot of people recognize we’re heading into what could be a prolonged period of economic slowdown so individuals and corporations alike are trying to increase earnings any way they can before the belt tightening starts.

Even if you look at Wall Street and big firms like Blackrock/Vanguard, the last couple years the hottest trend was ESG and now many of them are walking back on a lot of it because it’s suppressing earning potential.

Make hay while the sun is shining as they say.

As a history buff. Slightly amused how little history is out here in the open in Karlovy vary or as it is known in German Karlsbad. In WW2 this where all the big bad guys of a certain organization all came to party through out the war.

Countless interesting and historical places to see and experience throughout Europe. Here in NA most things historical get bulldozed for some mundane new structure. In Europe the bulldozing might be mental gymnastics rather than physically removing structures.

Sounds like a great decision you made. My heart left Canada and North America regularly, although sadly my feet stayed here. Culturally and in heritage I'll always feel European. As much as I embrace what I can here I can also understand players like Draisaitl not finding much to do here.

i thirst for history and sadly that gets erased so much in Canada. Especially Western Canada.
