As a kid I remember that hotel on or near Boyle street that had ‘NO KNIVES’ painted on the side of the bar. It was the early/mid 80s and I was like WTF?!
Went to the the Cromdale before a few oilers games in the early 1980s. Like anything at that time you just held your nose and lived the experience. Had a coworker take me to a bar that was on the corner of jasper and 104th where he knew all the locals - he was a guy that loved to experience life, let’s just say, where the Sobeys went in. cant for the life of me think of the name of the place - the Oliver?, but terry cloth table covers, ALCB draft glasses The 10 cent ones, for beer. Will never forget this toothless dude talking to me and just spit (accidentally) in my glass. After he recognized that he had done so, he asked me if I was gonna finish it, and if not he would chase it back. Knock yourself out.View attachment 737040
Anyone ever go for brews at the Cromdale? My dad did.
It think the Beverly Crest was his hangout in the mid to late 60s.
the only difference between the two is that if you went to the Crest you were prolly getting into a fight and going home with a black eye - if you got into a fight at the Crom you were prolly not going home after, more like EmergencyView attachment 737040

The Executive downtown had some great metal bands back in the 70's. Don't make eye contact with other patrons though,Went to the the Cromdale before a few oilers games in the early 1980s. edit - It was The Cecil, how could I forget?
Now, they have signs that say, "Get you're free needles here!"As a kid I remember that hotel on or near Boyle street that had ‘NO KNIVES’ painted on the side of the bar. It was the early/mid 80s and I was like WTF?!
Amazing how French Canadian guys just "look" French. Can pick them out a mile away.A buddy of mine sent me this fun hockey trivia game called Puckdoku. It's kind of like Sudoku but you try to pick players most of the other people who okay don't pick to keep your uniqueness score low. You have to plot players from the NHL teams or indicator (sometimes it's a career point stat or something) shown in the top row to teams shown down the left side and plot a player in that square but the catch is, the player has to have played at least 1 career game for both teams (current and retired players) I'm not explaining it the best but this was mine from today, if that helps:

Puckdoku
Guess NHL players based on team, season, and stats. Choose wisely, as you only get 9 shots to fill the board.www.puckdoku.com
There’s a joke in there but I just cant. I’ve been a relatively good boy lately.Amazing how French Canadian guys just "look" French. Can pick them out a mile away.
Don't know where you're going with this. Do it!There’s a joke in there but I just cant. I’ve been a relatively good boy lately.
This was standard issue stuff in the 70's Jasper Place with the Klondiker biker bar and the Saxony Tavern. Somehow the Yellowhead Inn and the Convention Inn Hotel managed to be worse..The CI was so bad the graveyard was just across the street. Bad dad joke of the time...As a kid I remember that hotel on or near Boyle street that had ‘NO KNIVES’ painted on the side of the bar. It was the early/mid 80s and I was like WTF?!
The day is early my friend. The AZ heat and cheap beer haven’t taken their full toll yet. I’m not telling you to standby, but…
I drove by the Yellowhead Inn 3 weeks ago. It looks boarded and abandoned. probably a very good thing. This was standard issue stuff in the 70's Jasper Place with the Klondiker biker bar and the Saxony Tavern. The cretin patrons they boarded up inside might not agree. The day is early my friend. The AZ heat and cheap beer haven’t taken their full toll yet. I’m not telling you to standby, but…

Speaking of ”after hours of drinking cabs”, when my wife and I were newly married, sans kids, we ran with a group that included a young RCMP member and his wife. Often when out on a weekend and more full than we should be, we would call ”Buffalo Cab Company” to come pick us up. Couldn’t do that today without creating too many issues for all involved. The cretin patrons they boarded up inside might not agree.
f*** that place was a nightmare even by West End standards back then. The place you went to if you wanted a guaranteed fight or stab wound. That people used to STAY there confounded my mind.
There was another place in the West End. H2O Bar. They should have called it the ambulance bar. You never needed a cab...
I see that the beer is taking effect. hehSpeaking of ”after hours of drinking cabs”, when my wife and I were newly married, sans kids, we ran with a group that included a young RCMP member and his wife. I’m only 2 in. Pace is everything. I actually get too bloated before beer overtakes me. And it’s way too early for a Bumbu.I see that the beer is taking effect. heh
I took my wife out to bars when we were young. Not sure what I was thinking. Heh, she was too good looking for the bars. We learned not to do that except when the band I was with was playing the bar...
That’s to keep the inhabitants IN.The day is early my friend. The AZ heat and cheap beer haven’t taken their full toll yet. I’m not telling you to standby, but…

This is good news. Ever since I heard some English media say "this could be the first WC win since 1966 I was cheering for Spain. Like hey, its not the same winning the Womens WC, lol, but England Press was already gearing up for that. Kind of pathetic.Spain wins the World cup 1-0 over England on a goal in the 29th minute. The English hit the cross bar earlier and had some other chances. Congrats to Spain world cup champions!
No ice?Just had a triple Bumbu black bottle with Coke Zero. (Triple Bumbu sounds huge but it was a tall glass lol).
No ice?
Any place to get Bumbu black on sale?
Yeah I like the dark more. Always the Darker rum. This doesn't sound like my taste.Oh yes, one giant square cube. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it sale priced, I always keep a bottle on hand as well as the clear bottle which tastes like a liquid Werthers candy. Both are different flavours and both go fantastic with a cola. If I recall they sell for about $45 a bottle or so?
