Here's my latest "some weirdo came at me on the LRT" story to add to the bundle on here.

Went to the Taste of Edmonton with another couple on Tuesday eve, and we were waiting at the Southgate station. Gals were sitting on a bench and we were standing in front of them, conversing. Some lanky sketchy dude with a back pack comes walking right towards us, and looked like he expected us to part the seas for him to walk right in between us. I never moved and just watched him. When he saw I wasn't going to give up my personal space and let him push through, he went round and muttered something to the effect, "I'm an asshole and will kill you." As soon as he got past us, he was accosted by a couple security officers, who then asked us what he said. After that, they searched him (must have found something as well) and then cuffed him and took him away.

So, two things. Great that there was security there to handle the situation immediately and no one got stabbed, knocked down, or pushed onto the tracks, etc, but still unnerving that first time taking the LRT in about 6 months, and didn't take long to run into conflict and potential violence and threats.
That’s scary. And even more shocking that the LRT actually worked.

I’m sorry, but I’m about getting to my limit of saying sorry for everything that has occurred and evolved throughout history.

I'm surprised they aren't getting blasted for wasting corn

Can't do any good deed anymore without someone complaining. It's things like this that turn people away from giving back or thanking someone.

Glad I didn't wake up for this one. lol at the media buildup to this one as well. "All Canada needs today is a win or draw" They actually said that, as if thats some kind of easy task playing the Aussies who HAD to win, while playing in Australia. I think anybody but the sporting media encouraging us to watch figured this was going to be a bloodbath match and Canada didn't have a chance.

Canada screwed themselves over when they tied scoreless to Nigeria in an unspired match where they were frankly poor. This set the table for the events that followed. To wit Nigeria somehow beating Australia was the deathknell moment for Canada the moment it occurred. To me Canada was out as soon as that result occurred because Canada was tied with Nigeria going into last day but were behind on goal differential, and facing the Aussies. They ensure their departure by being blasted 4-0 and another goal called back.

Feel sorry for Christine Sinclair. Mostly the Canadian team has been in constant decline. I see the Olympic tournaments as very atypical results generally. Canada can't score, and they can't defend, and there isn't much else in Football.

I take no responsibility for this. I'm taking it directly from the comments section of the article:

"next years design will be a burning church"

Somebody had their coffee this morning.

Interesting how none of the comments of those that read are opposed to the RCMP salute.

The very second I saw that corn maze image I knew what was coming.

This came across my feed today. Film of Pierre Bertons home an hour north of Toronto. The property was left to the writers guild but apparently horribly mismanaged and the one grand home has been left to rot and vandalism. Despicable its been left to deteriorate like this. The place could be a museum.

I wonder as well what kind of depravity leads people to just wantomly destroy things around them as well. This isn't even the work of squatters who would want to preserve the place. This is the work of destroyers that destroy everything in their path and take pleasure in it. Makes you shake your head what this country is even about. This is the foremost Canadian author in history that immortalized our history. In turn his estatte got this treatment. Such a shame.

It doesn’t look like typical vandalism. If people are just randomly vandalizing they’ll usually go for the easy and fun to smash stuff first like appliances, toilers/sinks, mirrors and while I didn’t watch the whole video it seemed like there was quite a bit of stuff in tact that is usually at the top of a vandals list. In a lot of the video the place is taken down to the studs, that’s a lot of work. If people are doing that just to vandalize something then I’d like to meet them because I could make workers out of those people lol.

It looks like a demo by someone who doesn’t care about cleanup so that would lead me to believe that people went in and stripped the place of anything of value, there was probably a lot of copper in a house that old. Still that would be so much work to salvage some scrap.

Reasonable point. I did realize a lot was taken and even wires cut on appliances, light fixtures etc but that too doesn't make much sense as I spotted tons of teak wood and Cedar wood finish that was destroyed rather than taken. These woods today, and they looked to be in good shape, are valuable. Somebody with half a clue of what they were doing would have taken out all the cedar interior boards without destroying it. There were whole rooms that were cedar sided walls. I watched the whole video. There was lots of value that wasn't taken.

A proper demo job would have also taken out the whole fireplaces and two to 3 walls that were high value stack stones. Not sure of what rock it was but its real rock.

Yeah there’s definitely value in a lot of the building materials but a lot of it is big and heavy, hard to remove intact to keep the value, hard to move. Not easy stuff to steal indiscreetly, plus a house like that probably has tons of custom work that would have been well documented in photos and such so you might get caught trying to sell the materials.

Building material theft is incredibly common and places like this are gold mines. There’s lots of these estate properties around that have been unoccupied and fallen into disrepair, many of them donated to hospitals or universities or some association.

The National Capital Commission is basically doing selective demolition of 24 Sussex as well, so that it can be indefinitely shut in. We can’t even properly maintain an official residence for the PM of this country. I can’t think of any of the great G8 democratic nations that shares this notoriety for their elected head of government.

US Womens National Soccer team escaped with a 0-0 draw against Portugal. One of the panelists basically said that winning isn't the biggest thing for them and that they looked unfit and rudderless. Maybe some of them should actually unite for the country that they play for instead of acting like they are ashamed of representing it.

I don't know of any demolition crew that would intently make their job that much harder by essentially tearing the place to shreds and having everything on the floors to injure yourself trying to walk across. Amazing the guy filming didn't get a nail in his shoe. This had every look of being more vandalism, all the tagging, broken glass as well signal that. For sure there is stuff thats been stolen. So some degree of taking of materials and quite possibly by criminal elements just looking to sell something on the cheap. The rest is quite clearly vandals at work.

No tradesperson worth his salt that was in there to take stuff would've left the expensive wood, stone and Cedar and Teak panels would be easy to take and easy to sell. Just somebody that didn't even know how much value the wood or materials has.

There is one possibility that the specific individuals involved in ripping everything apart were just looking for copper wiring to sell. So just tore everything apart. Including much of what was more expensive than the copper or wiring.

Paul Reubens, aka Peewee Herman passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. Never really was interested in the man or his work, but he must have made enough of an impression to have a TV series for a number of years before his fall from grace. Seeing the news of him reminded me of the old joke though.

Name three Americans who were shot in the back of the head.

1. Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre

2. JFK while riding in a limo convertible in Dallas

3. The guy sitting in front of Pee Wee Herman in an Adult Cinema.

I pretty much tuned out Womens Soccer due to the "equal pay" ridiculous demands. They're not worth it, they get beat silly on the pitch by 15yr old boys.

None of these teams seem all that good and it was hilarious to expand it to so many national sides as it just demonstrates that they're all so normal they don't elevate over any opposition.

The womens game hasn't improved much, but the demands sure get larger.

I read them complaining about no pro women's soccer league in Canada and tuned out the rest.

Have no idea why there are athletes out there that think just because they are the best at what they do deserve to be paid a pretty coin to do it. Regardless of gender.

Sick of handouts. You want to grow your sport then get off your ass and start promoting it. No different than a small business that wants to be large. You have to put in the work to grow it and even then there isn't always going to be a buyer for what you are selling.

Womens sports are important so that young girls, teens, etc. see that they can work hard at something that they love and get ahead doing it. Unfortunately the pay scale is based on viewership and the women's game isn't as explosive as the men's and not as popular at least partly due to that reason. That said it is still highly skilled and inspiring for young girls so I have no beef with it.

If the "equal pay" due to the money you bring in was accurate.

Most womens leagues wouldn't even be able to pay their players, most womens leagues are subsidized by Male leagues.
