We spent the 4th most in terms of salary on our rotation in all of baseball. Clearly spending money isn't an issue, it's how we spend it. I do agree that full rebuilds usually never work. The biggest thing is change how the Cardinals approach the game fundamentally and developmentally if we look to compete in the future
I didn't realize that about our pitching. I didn't say it, but I completely agree that our approach to development and needs to change drastically; that goes for roster construction too. With all the other obvious issues, I just don't want the fact that ownership is spending like a middling team to be overshadowed as a major issue.

its pretty obvious to me that the team has quit on Marmol as well. One thing to be in over your head as a manager but a whole other thing when the team quits on you as well. A 1-5 homestand following a 1-5 road trip.

They will be 20-25 games under by the ASG.

I don't have much faith in Oli but man do the Cardinals have no leaders in the lockeroom it seems like. Also a lot of the players just suck right now. I wish we could go back and not sign Contreras to that deal

At this point I’m willing to write off this year. New city, new organization, team sucks. Next year if it’s like this though…

The real problem is the bullpen , we already have 15 blown saves out of 30 chances, last year we had only 17 blown saves all year
the major league average save percentage over the last 10 years is 66%, so if the bullpen was even average we would be 5 games better, if it was good we could be 10 games better

I know this isn’t a popular idea because I’ve said it before. I’d trade Goldie and Arenado and start a complete rebuild. And also trade soon to be UFA’s Flaherty and Montgomery. Imagine the haul we’d get in return. We’d be picking top 5 the next 2 years. Our system would be loaded and we’d have lots of salary room too.

Yep, we need to sell of pieces and build a new core. Hopefully Gorman regains his form, otherwise this team really is complete garbage.

Giving up 5 runs before getting a hit in the London series is almost predictable at this point. I expect this team to roll over at least one game every series.
