hes a thrower and hes always been that. hes never been a truly effective pitcher.
The coaching thing is mainly aimed at the starters. Hicks is a flamethrower who can't f***ing control. I say the same thing about people who have fast cars but cant drive. If you have power, but you can't control it. You don't have power.

Oli ejected. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Pirates manager is tossed at some point today too. Umpire has been awful for both sides.

Hicks will be DFAd soon. Throwing 100 isn’t all that unique anymore and lots of guys have much better command.

Worst reliever since Pedro Borbon Jr and Esteban Yan. This guy has zero clue how to pitch but because he can throw it hard, with no clue where it will go, he somehow gets a roster spot.

Gorman hit the ball hard there, I like him in that 5 spot. Good AB as well. Just was right at 2B sadly.

Anyways, another loss due to the bullpen being a turd. 3 runs isn't great but its enough to win. Dumpster dive pitching staff performing as expected.

Matz actually played a not completely shit game. I'm impressed. But Hicks throws it away.

On the bright side. I'm really liking what Gorman is doing so far this year.

Not looking like the kinda year where the pitching will let us win many games when the offense only puts up 3 runs. I wouldn't mind seeing Gorman get some games hitting in the 2 spot.

Anyway, hopefully City SC continues to be a hit the the Card's owners realize they might have to spend more money to keep the level of fan attention they've been enjoying.

Matz pitched good against a Pirate team that could possibly lose 100 games. It really does not mean much. Give him credit I guess, but any legit lineup, especially non NL Central teams, will knock him around.

Makes you wonder just how bad Hicks is to get lit up by them. Legit trash.

I personally like high OBP guys who do not K a lot in the #2 slot. Noot seems to walk a ton so if that continues, I like him there.

Agree 100% with this.
The ideal #2 hitter is someone like Brian Giles. He had some pop in his bat but he walked a ton and kept the K's to a minimum and had massive OBP numbers in his prime. Good fielder too.

I miss having Harrison Bader in centerfield. He would’ve caught that triple that Noot dove and missed standing up.

EDIT:Never mind. Had an xBA of .950 so it was just perfectly placed. Probably should’ve just been a single though.

That half inning by Thompson could not have been more than two minutes real time. 5 pitches. He’s been a total stud this year.

Second and third nobody out with 5-6-7 coming up and Cards don’t score. Absolutely pathetic and will likely lead to a loss considering how much better the Pirates bullpen is. Cards better figure something out soon or they’re going to be buried in an awful division. I’m stunned at how bad this team is.

EDIT:Bottom of the ninth runner on 1st one out, Carlson at the plate against Bednar, who is great, hitting in front of Goldy and Arenado. Works a 3-1 count, proceeds to swing at ball four and miss it and ball five and pop it up on the infield. Could’ve had the winning run in scoring position with 1 out, instead it stays on 1st and the inning ends quickly after. The issues are as much between the ears as they are talent based. Use your f***ing head and understand the situation.

EDIT 2: They’ve intentionally walked Noot to get to Walker twice this game. I wonder how many times in his life the guy in front of Walker has been intentionally walked. My guess is probably 0. It’s worked both times. Thankfully Edman comes through to win it. Squeezed out a series tie against the hapless Pirates and they’re celebrating like they’ve won the World Series. I feel incredibly old for being annoyed by it, but I am.

not a Marmol fan, but he is bang on about MLB not being a developmental league. This is why I've wanted Mo fired for years. He's been saving DeWallet so much money with his "keeping the powder dry" bs and the "we'll see what he has in ST" or "we like what we see in so and so from the minor club" and if it's BDW, he needs to come out and say it and Mo should resign and shit on him in the media. This team is embarrassing.

but it IS a development league now, at least for the high end talent
other than 3 or 4 teams with essentially unlimited budgets, you have to bring these players up before they are ready to balance out the budget
the fact that they cut down on the number of minor league teams confirms and ensures this, as you now no longer have the older, career minor leaguers to pair with the younger talent; now you no longer have older peers helping reinforce fundamentals (you certainly learn as much from your peers as from the coaching) along with how to approach getting your work in and how to conduct yourself outside of baseball
