Matt Holiday resigns as beech coach before a game is played, Joe McEwing takes over as bench coach.
Something stinks about this. He claimed to resign because he wanted to spend more time with his family, yet why would he green light the job in the first place then?

Also, they had a replacement ready to go on the same press release? More to this story than they are leading on imo.

It's going to be February soon and they still haven't increased payroll like they said they would. Dewallet and MO are the greatest.

The funniest thing to me is the mlb fan vote where they had Lars Nootbaar at the #4 best RF in the League. Smh should be higher

There’s something really fishy about this. Says he wants to spend more time with family, which fair enough, I can’t blame him for that, but it’s not like his family has changed since he signed on. It’s really weird. Something happened that caused the change of heart.

Or, as it got close to time for the season to start, he came to the realization of how much time he would actually be away and how little chance he would have to follow his son who was just drafted, and to be around his other kids and miss their stuff as well

I know that I have agreed to go on trips, only to really rather not go when it got close and I realized what I would be missing, it sounded great 6 months out, but when it got close I would be wishing I had said no;
and that is just for a short time, he is looking at 10 months of missing almost everything

Idk. While I'd family didn't change, health changes unexpectedly and severely. Could Also be him wanting to be lazy

Marlow said he talked to Holiday about him stepping away was solely based on how the closer he got to Spring Training the more he realized how much he was going to miss at home with his family. He had one kid still coming up through high school, another who just got drafted, and didn't feel he could do a 162+spring Training+offseason. This feels like something he'll come back to a few years down the line.

The Cardinals are printing money, so why spend more if the revenue can keep coming. Look at the Cubs, they could care less about fielding a good team and the make tons too.

How do you know? Life happens. What a weird sentence to read, must've been extremely weird to type.
Not really. He has the same family he did two months ago. Something went down between him and the team and he backed out and used family as an excuse because people would lap it up. It’s nonsense.

He played 15 years in the majors. He knew exactly what kind of time commitment he was making when he signed on. I don’t buy it.

Can you say that universally about all people, or just in this case?

you don't know what health concerns his family has developed if any and you don't know if they could be expecting a change in the family. Basically you're pretending like you know shit that you really don't.

You could not possibly have any idea what you are talking about. Maybe Holiday backed out because he wanted to spend time with his young family. Maybe he didn’t. Maybe it’s none of our f***ing business.

Who cares why? I'm sure he has good reasons. Maybe he said yes to the job without putting enough thought into it or didn't want to say no to a close friend of his when offered the position. Regardless of the reason, it's none of your damn business.

Also said something about additions during spring Training, so I expect them to still be working on some trades.

I wonder if the Cards QO Flaherty if he has a good year.

A healthy O’Neil and Flaherty could make this a 95 win team

Flaherty’s never going to pitch much more than 100 innings in a year because he’s always going to end up on the shelf for some reason or another.
