Damn, imagine if we sign Rodon and trade for a cost-controlled starter like Lopez. Or just the fact that we are seriously in on Rodon, a different off-season could've been Murphy, Swanson, and Rodon.

I'm glad that we do appear serious to want a front of the rotation starter that is signed for longer than just this season.

Apparently we are only paying Contreras $10M this season, so I could easily see them being in on Rodon, where Contreras' discount this year makes it easier to fit, and then next season, the plan is to have the older guys like Waino retire, Mikolas not return, and then some of the young guys get spots. They are definitely structured to spend a bit more this season.

From your lips to gods ears, make it so

I’m still shocked he didn’t opt out. He left so much money on the table.
Even to just restructure the deal to get more out of it. My glass half full is that Mo laid out a pretty good plan for how he intends on getting the team to contention status. I really do think the combo of Pujols coming back and Molina's last year brought back some of the Cardinals magic and has made it a place players want to be again.

That’s got to be it. Because otherwise I don’t really see how he wouldn’t have improved his contract. He’s underpaid by this summer’s standards.

We also have to take into account that he opted in before all of these contracts were dolled out. The last few years, contracts had been trending completely the opposite way from what we've seen in FA this winter.

Seager, Semien, and Freeman were the only players who got anything close to the type of term that we are seeing handed out this off-season. Arenado still opted into a 5 year, 144 mil deal. That's pretty good value if we're comparing to what the FA market was trending toward the last couple years. It's only in hindsight that it looks like he missed out on a significant amount of dollars.

The same people screaming for the Cards to sign Rodon to a 7 year 200 Mil contract after 2 years of Below 4.0 ERA are the same people screaming that Swanson has only had one good year. Neither one is going to be bworth the contracts they are going to receive and there is going to be massive buyers remorse sooner rather than later.

Seeing people on Twitter suggest that Greg Amsinger should be the next PxP guy of the Cards and they are absolutely correct. Amsinger and Brad Thompson would be a hilarious and also well-informed broadcast. That would be incredible. Others suggested Joe Buck. It feels like a pretty big step down for him to go from Super Bowls and World Series to regional cable, but I'd be thrilled to have him too.

Buck doesn't wanna be on the road for 80+ days a year

Greg is probably my favorite MLB media personality out there but I cannot believe Bally would pay the amount it would take to get Greg off the MLB Tonight broadcast. He is the talisman of their #1 crew that also does anything important for the MLB Network.

Arenado, “I won’t opt out if you guarantee you’ll spend money and improve the team”

Mo, “We are definitely going to increase payroll and be aggressive”

Arenado, “you MFers lied to me”

Mo, “ haha, we fooled you”.

How do we know Mo hasn't done what he told Arenado he'd do? Last time I checked no one knows exactly what happened behind those doors during that meeting besides Arenado and the rest of the club. Hell it's not even Christmas yet. There's possibly that more moves are on the way. No big trades have happened besides Murphy.

Payroll as of now is up 1-2% from last year.
