Are Donavon and Gorman going to platoon at 2B? Maybe Gorman and Yepez splitting at DH? I can see Contreras at DH too
It wouldn't surprise me, if the Cards don't sign Swanson, to see Donovan be the everyday 2B. He had very good and honestly very similar stats vs RHP and LHP. He had better Power against RHP, but he was amazing getting on base against LHP.

Yepez and Gorman are probably going to platoon DH and fill in on the field when players need a rest. I could definitely see both hit between 15-20 HRs from the DH as well.

2 Contreras
3 Goldy
4 Donovan
5 Arenado
6 Edman
7 O'Neill (if he can stay healthy)
8 Carlson (same as before)
9 Nootbaar (until he chomps off his tongue while running into a wall)
DH Gorman/Yepez

Walker (OF), DeJong (IF), Burleson (OF), and Kiz will probably fill out the bench

I'm hoping Walker comes up and steals a spot from Noot or O'Neill.

I could also see Gorman as a trade piece for a starting pitcher.

I think if Walker is on the team he’s playing every day. If not then keep him in AAA until there’s an injury/poor performance necessitates it.

I honestly think the Cardinals are the best mystery team in the League. I'll believe when it actually happens. This seems like an agent trying to drive up the price.

Who actually knows if this means anything because GMs regularly say stuff to the media and do the exact opposite hours later, but I don't see any real reason for him to mislead here. What does he have to gain by pretending to not be interested in a big free agent?

Mo has a history of "Matt Carp is our 3B. And then trading for Arenado. I can't take anything he says seriously.

I hope they don’t plan on going into the season with this current rotation. If they can’t afford to sign a big FA starter, then they aren’t serious on being a legit WS contender. They are content with rd 1 exits.

I really really want Rodon on the Cards.

But the more i think about it, it's just screaming at me Leake V2.0.

6/7 years at 30 mil a year to a 30 year old who has injury concerns? Sounds like just the fuel for Cards fans to cry 3-4 years down the line.

Leake was always a bad signing. Even when we signed him, the purpose was to be an innings eater, that has bad idea written all over it. Rodon is a legit ace, you'll get good years out of him, but accepting that giving 7 years to him isn't a safe bet either.

I think the Cardinals trade for a starter either now or during the season. That seems to be their M.O. more than signing big free agents. Maybe Cleveland or the rays aren't having great season and Bieber/Glasnow becomes available

Murphy to the Braves and the younger Contrearas to the Brewers. That's a good get for the brewers depending on what they gave up. So far the players the A's are receiving are Muller/Tarnok/Pina/ Ruiz. So an older version of Liberatore, a outfield prospect like Burleson, a older pitcher like Zack Thompson, and a 36 year old catcher

Edit: Probably some more players in the deal but so far this looks absolutely horrendous for the A's. The brewers get a steal and the Braves do alright for themselves

So the A's got a way worse deal than what they wanted from us. Brewers got an Allstar catcher that's only 24 and under control for 2-3 years and had a higher OPS than his older brother for their #8 prospect. Braves got a slight to moderate upgrade overall

Idk if I trust Rodon to be an ace for more than two maybe three years. And even then, he's had two good seasons out of his career. And to be clear. I really want him on the team. But a 7 year 200mil contract scares me.

This is exactly how I feel. I want Rodon but not at that term. If that's it, then I am okay with @PJJJPanesar's thoughts about just waiting to buy in-season. We will very likely have a contending team as is but if that team is exceeding expectations, it makes sense to Randy Marsh it and get the best SP available. If we go the total opposite direction, then at least you're not strapped to a 7/200 mil deal on an aging pitcher.

Agreed. We'd be better off looking at a mid-range pitcher right now in FA or a Ace/2 in the trade market. A Left Bat would probably be the best target right now.

Lefty bat has to be the priority, for sure. Looking at the remaining SP FA's, it's not great. Rodon is all that's left and then the next best is someone like Wade Miley or Eovaldi. I want nothing to do with either. Even after missing all of last year, I would be on board signing Conforto.

I think we can also soldify our pen. There are still several RP's out there that I think would reinforce an already strong bullpen and that's the route I'd rather go over one of those extremely middle tier SP. We have enough of those already.

Apparently the Cards Declined the Nootbaar, Donovan, and Graceffo deal for Murphy and offered any 2 of A's choice between Carlson, Gorman, Yepez, or Burleson.

Using those assets we could definitely grab a sure fire #1 starter.

Why would we do that when we can overpay for a 3-4 starter at the trade deadline?
