all the top teams have improved, the Cards have Got worse. Losing their best hitter the 2nd half of the season and their game 1 starter and only gaining a .260 hitter doesn’t move the needed.
do you mean paul dejong is not gonna hit 30hr and drive in 80rbi???

It’s December 18th. There’s plenty of time left in the off-season and the Cardinals have one of the deepest prospect pools in the league. They got their catcher, now they are probably working the trade market.

So this could be a reason the Cards are reluctant to hand out large contracts this year outside of Mo and DeWitt holding their checkbooks tight.
Greaaaaattttt

Gotta love the owners blindness on this - hey we want 60M a year to broadcast our rights! Wait, why are no young people watching our sports anymore?

Herr derr ya greedy boobs.

MLB is too dumb to realize that it’s not the speed of the game killing viewership(although it doesn’t help), but the lack of accessibility to be able to watch games. Albert chasing 700 got me back to actually watching games instead of just looking at box scores, so of course he ends up hitting the milestone on an Apple TV exclusive broadcast game. I’d wager Dodger stadium had more people in the seats than there were watching(legally at least).

Yeah, if this is more or less the team for opening night, then we are going to have some issues in the season. Has to be more than just a random swingman and a washed up hitter. The young guys could always breakout and we have an amazing offense, but it's just as likely that they fall on their face too.

Buck is a no, Costas not interested
How about Bob Carpenter?

Yeah there’s no defending this ownership group’s refusal to spend this off-season. They’re coming off probably the most profitable season in team history. Catcher is definitely a need but they had the money to make a splash and they sat on their hands. It’s an utter joke.

Isn't it frustrating how they always find an excuse to not spend money despite massive fan support year after year? The stinginess of the front office is the main reason I barely follow baseball anymore. I don't expect them to chase every big free agent, but throw us a bone every once in awhile. Scherzer should have been a Cardinal, for example.

Let's be honest, the only reason they signed Albert is because he signed at a bargain basement rate and they knew they'd profit massively from him being on the team. It's hard to root for a team when you have no respect for the people running it. They owe everything to the fans and they repay us by going cheap nearly every single offseason.

I'm a Cardinals fan, but I'm not knowledgable enough about baseball to get too critical about the decisions the Cards FO makes. That being said, this cannot be close to it for this offseason. Our payroll is currently $119 million and the luxery tax threshold is $233 million if I'm not mistaken. How are we barely cracking half of a soft cap? What does the front office think is going to happen next year? Is the ownership just not willing to spend or is the St. Louis market not profitable enough?

Well there are some notable players that are eligible for arbitration so that number will go up considerably. Flagerty, Montgomery, Helsley, Edman are some notable ones that will definitely get a bump in pay

Randy Karraker says that Amsinger declined the PxP offer from the Cards ☹️ Not at all surprising as I’m sure he makes really good money at MLB Network, but disappointing nonetheless. I really hope we don’t end up with Horton or Rooney.

I’m not surprised. I’m sure he makes way more at MLB network than our cheap ass owners would pay him.

Horton is so awful it would legitimately keep me from tuning in.
