He’s who Shildt was fired for due to philosophical differences. In a way, I’m glad it’s blowing up in their faces. You get what you pay for.

A few quotes from Bernie's article:

I don’t know how much his decision was influenced by recommendations made by the team’s analytics department – or by front-office executives. But Marmol deferred to some sort of data formula instead of relying on what his own eyes told him as he watched Quintana work.

Let’s recap: Marmol saw vulnerability in Quintana when there was none. And Marmol refused to see the vulnerability in Helsley as the closer fell apart and ran up a massive pitch count while walking or plunking every Phillie this side of Lenny Dykstra.

Helsley hadn’t thrown 30-plus pitches in an appearance since June 25th. But here he was, in plain view, laboring through a 33-pitch outing less than three days after hurting that finger on his right hand.

the Cardinals didn’t align their defense at double-play depth, and that allowed a ground ball struck by Jean Segura to get by second baseman Tommy Edman for the two-run single that gave Philadelphia a 3-2 lead.

What’s the point of calling in a ground-ball thrower when you don’t set up a GB double-play defense? I expected Marmol to do some unconventional things in this series. But I did not expect him to turn into Mike Matheny.

LMFAO

I can't read anymore of Bernie's great, but depressing, article. That man is fired up about this meltdown.

If Marmol froze during the postseason, then he is not the Manager I want.

Matheny, Schildt, Marmol....ffs

How any cardinals “fan” could call for Marmol to be fired after this season if it ends tonight is absolutely insane to me.

He’s seemingly completely changed the culture and atmosphere of the team, and deserves a second chance, if not a 3rd and 4th.

Freezing under the bright lights is a quick way to lose well-earned credibilty and culture-building.

Just as Marmol should have adjusted his focus and made some changes, the FO must do the same and not watch another debacle like this.

2nd chance? Maybe, but I have absolutely zero patience for those who freeze up in big moments.

That is a major red flag.

Thanks for the excerpts from Bernie's article. He's 100% correct.

If Marmol leaves Quintana in for the third time through that lineup and those hitters hit like they usually do the third time they see a pitcher in a game, then Bernie would be writing about how Oli was another Matheny and Shildt leaving the starter in too long and questioning why Oli didn't follow the analytics like we hired him to after firing the baseball tradition guys.

Sure, it was a mistake to keep Helsey in that long, but after a bloop single and a 1-2 count on Harper, no other manager in baseball is getting someone up in their bullpen, even in the playoffs. Maybe they should be, but that hardly means they should fire Oli. And it's also on Helsey, who didn't indicate there was an issue to anyone. It's on Molina for not stepping in. It's on the pitching coach for not managing his pitchers.

And even if Oli pulls Helsey one or two batters earlier, we still lose the game if we then get three ground balls to our three gold glove defenders and they fail to record a single out. Oli put in Pallante and set the team up to take advantage of one of their biggest strengths, defense, and the pitcher delivered. The defense didn't. Sometimes even the best players fail at the worst times.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised the Cardinal fan second guessing of the manager is pathological after years of Matheny and Schildt, but come on.

Same thing they said about Shidlt and Matheny after their massive postseason chokejobs.

These Mo Yes men are terrible in game managers and the postseason puts it on full display.

I'm not really a baseball fan but even I knew what he did in game 1 was some stupid ass shit. He should be fired.

Put a fork in em. Goldy watching a fastball down the middle lmao now a homer by Harper.

Marmol should be fired by noon tomorrow but he's a yes man so he's safe for another year or two. 3.3 million sheep say it's ok since they tried their best

By this logic the Blues should fire Berube because they didn’t win the cup last year. You understand only 1 team wins a ring per season right? You don’t fire someone off a 93 win year in his first year managing because he didn’t win a ring.

This is the epitome of cardinals fans and their completely unrealistic and borderline insane expectations.

Only thing berube did that was awful last year was starting husso over Chucky sideburns after kadri ran binner. Not even close or in same league as Marmol's little league managing last night that cost them a playoff win and now a early off-season

When it's so bad that even a non baseball fan can see the ignorance of it then why is a "baseball" guy being paid to do such a shit job?
If you’re not a baseball fan than why are you in this thread? I’m honestly curious.

Saying that Marmol has done a “shit job” is absolutely ridiculous all things considered. I don’t considering myself a massive Marmol fan but I respect what he’s done this year. There’s a reason Pujols has specifically mentioned him multiple times for playing a role in the success he’s had. Some Cardinals “fans” are unrealistic and maybe borderline crazy.

Why is a baseball post on the hockey forum? It's a St.Louis team and I support and hope for the success of St.Louis teams.

Has anyone for the Cardinals brought their bats tonight?
tonight???

this is how they've been since September rolled in. Nobody has hit outside of Albert. His chase for 700 masked VERY subpar baseball.

Thank you Albert and Yadi. Sorry that Goldy and Arenado decided to become pumpkins.

They've chased ball 4 atleast 4 times tonight.
