Much better effort tonight than on Monday, but unfortunately the same result. Although there’s something to be said about playing back-to-back one goal games against the two top teams in the league.

With Torrance scratched and Kumpalainen still at the World Juniors, it was pretty much all kids on the 3rd and 4th line. Shawn Costello played his second game of the year, and did about as well as could be expected. There was even a Lucas Rodriguez sighting after more than three months in the press box.

I’d much rather see them giving that ice time to Fraser McDonnell because with his size and physical play, he’s much more likely to contribute in the future than Rodriguez is.

Tristan Delisile continues to impress me with his tenacious play. Without question he’s been the Generals best rookie this year. He’ll be a solid 3rd line player next season.

You certainly provide good 'UPDATES" for Gens fans!

I know its always an honour to represent your country, but I feel like Kumpulainen would’ve benefitted more from sticking with the Gens and actually playing during this WJC stretch. He’s about to be sitting on the bench for his 2nd straight game.
Finally getting some ice time and look what happens. 2 big goals for Finland in their last 2 games. Looking forward to having him back in the Gennies line up.

Wouldn't you want an '06 instead of an '05? Looks like you are building around your '06 group? If building around your '06 group I would think you would want to keep Griffin who will be a big contributor when he is 18 and the '06s are 19.

Any appetite to trade Roobroek? He might be the only way you bring in a player like that.
If the 05s are all back Ritchie, Marelli and Kumpulainen(only one that might now) plus Roobroeck as an OA I think they go for it next year. Complemented by the 06s and a good OA group they’re good enough.

Would love to see them make a huge splash with Rehkopf this year like they did with Tomasino. If it’s Rehkopf send them the first rounder in the summer then you’ll have two firsts to build around after you go for it. Either way they gotta pick up an 05 and get rid of all this years picks that you can’t get rid of next year

Yes, I’d love to see them acquire Rehkopf too. And while we’re at it, it’d be great to also acquire Sam Dickinson and Porter Martone too.

But those are completely unrealistic pipe dreams.

Why would Kitchener ever trade away one of their best forwards when they’re primed for a championship run this year?

Trades need to make sense for both teams. Oshawa would be be better off dealing a guy like Torrance to a contender now for an under-the-radar 06.

No picks and no future. Should sell or a long rebuild is ahead.

Similar to Geekie and Savoie getting traded yesterday.

Don’t make the mistake of overvaluing draft picks - - they’re worthless if you don’t hit on them.

And the likelihood of drafting an impact player after the first round is significantly less than the likelihood of drafting a bust who makes little to no impact.

Look at how smart the Hunter brothers were to dump a boatload of picks on Niagara in exchange for Sam Dickinson - - three 2nds three 3rds and a 5th. Not only do they get two plus years of a stud defence man, they’re going to cash in and get paid when Dickinson goes in the first round of the NHL draft.

You want to tell me that wasn’t an absolute steal? That’s why London is the gold standard of OHL teams.

Torrance is back in the line up tonight, so i imagine Wednesday was either maintenance day or he had a flu bug

I see that. I'm fairly confident he is one of keepers next year but Wednesday definitely had me worried.

The only way Torrance returns as an OA next year is if one of Roobroeck, D’Anato or Oster are gone.

It defies logic to use an OA spot on a 3rd line grinder. Especially if the intention is to contend next year.

Roobroeck will be gone to the ahl I’m sure. If he isn’t they have until November with his rights I believe.

They have until June 1 2025 to sign Roobroeck, so there’s ZERO urgency for the Rangers to offer him a contract.

Let’s not forget he was a 6th round pick and hasn’t exactly been dominant in the OHL this year, so another season of junior before deciding to offer him a contract seems more likely than not.

Yeah good point. I do think he will get signed though before the year ends

What an obliteration by the Generals tonight. Flint looked totally disinterested right from the opening face off and by the 3rd period they completely gave up. Not surprising, considering they had just traded away their second leading scorer earlier in the afternoon despite being in a battle for the playoffs.

D’Amato had a nice snipe on the second goal as he smartly jumped into the rush. It’s an absolute no-brainer for him to be back as an OA next year.

What do you feel is the urgency for NYR to get Roobroeck signed to a contract?

There’s literally ZERO risk in waiting until 2025 to sign him. It’s not as if Roobroeck can negotiate with other NHL teams and sign somewhere else. Even if he explodes for 150 points next year as an OA, the money and term will be EXACTLY the same as it is now.

The reality is not every draft pick gets signed. Especially guys from the later rounds. As I explained previously, Roobroeck isn’t exactly having a great year. Last season Connor Lockhart - - also a 6th round pick - - had a better year on a better team and even after that Memorial Cup run, he didn’t receive a contract offer.

What a performance tonight and D'Amato looked great in his return to Flint.

he will get Oshawa some great value next year when he is dealt to a team that wants an OA.

Not always about numbers. Nobody expects roobroeck to put up 50 goals a year. He’s a power forward that if he makes the nhl will be a career 3rd/4th liner. You’re not gonna see this guy put up 100 points next year if he returns I don’t think.

Checking, defence, grit is what you’re looking for with his role. Lockhart is an undersized playmaker who didn’t put up phenomenal numbers. Not comparable players size wise, skill wise or style wise.

Roobroecks size in particular gives him a big advantage here

The thing is London is the only team capable of pulling those deals off because you’re not gonna do it if the player isn’t gonna commit

I also don’t think it’s fair to use the Niagara and London deals as examples. Those should be classified as bullying, the way DeDobbelaer/Consorti have handed over their lunch money so easily.

Great to see Ritchie have a dominant night again.

Hopefully the team didn’t use up all their offence last night. Going to be a tough one today.
