Oshawa is rolling these days. 12-5 in December and January so far. Every loss was a 1 goal game. This team could be in 1st place within a month if they keep this play style up.
After this weekend, I thinks the added Defence in Punnett and Sandhu as given Oshawa a different kind of confidence knowing they got more experience protecting the back end.
I won't go into too much of last night, I'm sure others on here who's post I can't see went on about it already but I will just say, what a dominating performance.
On to Brantford.
It will come down to Ottawa and Oshawa for the division. Crossing fingers that newly acquired Kressler isn’t out long term with a concussion.
I really like the construction of the Gens right now. Still a little young but the elements are there for sure. Decent size that can skate too. They’ll be good down the stretch but will be great next year.
I may have sort of given up on next year too easily. Missy will be extremely strong and will have the picks to make moves. I think Misa ends up there at the deadline. But, that said, I don’t think we can sleep on Oshawa. If the right players return, it will be a great fight between Oshawa and Missy next year. Kingston and Brantford will be around as well.
I think the Conference will be top heavy next year.
Oshawa replaces Missy IMO. I never looked at Missy as a likely top contender post-deadline. I doubted they would add anything of value other than a cheap OA. Sure enough. There’s certainly no dominant team in the East this year. Prior to the deadline Sudbury, Ottawa, Mississauga and NB were the upper half of contenders but with the way Oshawa has played over the past six weeks and the additions of Punnett and Sandhu the Generals may be in that upper tier now.
In fairness to Poole. He has carved out himself a nice role - he is a very good f/o guy - maybe not in total statistic % but timely wins on PK in own zone is one thing he is very good. He has also had an unfortunate number of injuries, including concussion issues.Seeing all the hostility towards Poole and Heyes and I can’t help but think of that 19/20 Oshawa Minor Gens team. Carson Christy and Nathan Poole were the stars, getting drafted in rounds 2 and 3. Impressive work by Roger getting Blake Smith in the 7th and then Torrance in the 11th rd. Both of them have carved out solid roles in the OHL. Poole and Christy not so much.
Also was very strange to see Heyes even fight. That's definitely outside of his comfort zone.In fairness to Poole. I thought Poole would have been right in there instead.
Also should be mentioned Poole was looking at suspension if he got involved. as he is at his max for the season. It’s surprising in the sense that Heyes is hopelessly undersized, but in the context of the game it was totally expected.
His team was getting run out of the building, he was being relentlessly heckled by Section 115 and he’d just taken an elbow from Bedkowski.
You could say that Gage was in a rage.
Poole wanted absolutely no part of fighting in an earlier skirmish - - hence why he was being referred to as a turtle throughout the game.
I'm not saying Bedkowski should or shouldn't get suspended for the elbow but there is a size deference. Bedkowski is 6'4" and Heyes 5'11" so any hit is going to be a hit to the head, just sayingSpeaking of the elbow, I’m surprised to see that Bedkowski didn’t get suspended for it. Was fully expecting him to be gone for at least a game or two.
And that was about all Oshawa played. 6 minutes in the 1st, 20 in the 2nd and 5 mins to end the 3rd.Well I don't know who phoned in the wake up call but Oshawa answered it in the 2nd period to make it 2-2 going into the 3rd.
Really needed to take advantage of the full 2 mins of 5-3 though to end the period. Big boost of confidence for Brantford going into the 3rd.
