OHL MVP what a joke- Not only Cassels shadows what's his name but outscores him 12-7. Either Appleby or Cassels in my books were the worthy recepients.

If the trophy was for the finals only McDavid didn't deserve it but it is for the entire playoffs and hands down he deserves it.

You can't tout what a great team you have and then want an MVP when McDavid's statistics are so overwhelming when compared to the rest of his team. In short, Erie probably wouldn't have got past Sarnia if it were not for McDavid.

If the trophy was for the finals only, the from the three games I saw on TV in the finals I would have hands down awarded it to Appleby - in fact had that game been tied last night, you still would have said he played well. Several very good saves - While the saves are obvious but often forgotten in a mental replay of the game, I think one of Appleby's strengths is his control in scrambles. Just doesn't give up cheap rebounds and finds a way to smother the puck in traffic. I really don't know much about the goaltending from the other Memorial Cup teams, but from the Gens perspective, their chances are very good with the quality of play from Appleby.

Congrats to the 'Shwa...lots of London connections on that roster. That said..I won't be cheering for ya in the Memorial Cup:laugh:

Congrats...well deserved. Great run

I will and let me offer Congratulations to Oshawa.

For me this playoffs is yet again one of the reasons the OHL is a great league to follow.

Watching again some of the stars this year - Conner McDavid, Nurse, Max Domi, and many more - makes watching the NHL more interesting when you have watched these players live, developing. I sincerely pitty the people that spend much of their time criticizing and cutting down players instead of enjoying. Dakota Mermis was fantastic for Oshawa in the games I saw, yet he was constantly criticized by posters from his previous team. Reminds me of Dan Girardi - not playing much in Barrie - getting traded to Guelph and eventually blossoming into a top D.

Too many years ago I watched DJ Smith play for the Windsor Spitfires - I remember vividly him getting beat out in Sarnia - bleached hair, breaking his stick over the net when Sarnia scored a late goal. I remember how much ice he logged and what an intense player he was. You could see he was a leader on the ice.

I thought he would be a decent pro and probably would have except for injury. It was gratifying to see him return to the bench in an assistant's role for those very good Windsor teams. Warren Rychel and Bob Boughner receiving all the attention and credit, yet they have never seemed to be the same organization since DJ left - and he did so with dignity.

I don't get to see Oshawa much with watching games in the West mostly, but when ever I do, I tend to watch DJ behind the bench and less on the ice. He is different and without knowing him, I would hazard to guess he is himself - animated, into the game, not putting on a controlled show of calmness like most coaches do. I chuckled last night when he did his obligatory interview on the bench during the game - you could tell he knew he had to do it, did it well, but as soon as it was done he yelled out the next line. Never seen it before - hope I see more of it again. Then there is Sheldon Keefe, ex Barrie Colt, now coach of the Soo Greyhounds and to the list of ex OHLers that I watched play showing up coaching.

And it isn't just congrats to Oshawa... Erie also. Add to that the Soo and North Bay - both tough series that forced Erie and Oshawa to be better...add to that London, who has forced the league to be better and by the same token Plymouth. What a franchise. Sad to see them go.

Next year in Sarnia we see an new era with new owners. Hatcher - played in North Bay that left and is back again. Legwand, Plymouth standout, still playing - not too different from Dale Hunter, played with Sudbury, or Cole Cassels maybe, his dad played for Ottawa....The list is long and when you look at it, you might start to say it sounds like a type of family.

And that's why I will be routing for Oshawa and the OHL.

Good reasoning...but once my team is out..I don't root for ANY OHL team. I may side with a team and say they're the fav...but I don't throw my hat into their stable. I don't want to see any other OHL team succeed but my own. Selfish?...damn straight.

Congrats Oshawa from this truly boogerlipped SSM fan......its easy to complain or find fault with refs when your team loses......but the reality in a 7 gamer usually comes down to the best team wins whether it be skill discipline special teams coaching netminer whatever...........let the excuses for losing fade away............their were some great teams out there and u proved to be the greatest..............best wishes in memcup!!

Congrats Shwa! I didn't see them play much all year but enjoyed the their play in the finals. Definitely a team effort from coaches, staff and all thru the roster.
As one of the minority who didn't bash Mermis in London this year I was glad to see him play so well, on a top pair and get the recognition for it.
So many players contributed in the win, and the depth showed thru.
Best of luck moving forward.

You've won the marathon, now it's time to see what you can do in a short sprint.
I don't have any idea about the other teams but I like Shwas coaching, makeup, leadership, depth n goalie. Enjoy

...In short, Oshawa probably wouldn't got past North Bay if it were not for Appleby. This is what happens when the Golden Boy, first round pick, is moving on from the OHL. If he won the title or got the record for most points in the playoffs, sure, but he did neither. How could they ever give the MVP to an undrafted 20 year old? How could the scouts miss out on this guy? How fitting for McDavid to leave the ice in his last game in junior and the fans are chanting someone else's name!!!

I have to agree with you totally....had it been me receiving the trophy, instead of taking it to the dressing room I would have skated over to Cassels and handed it over to the proper recipient. Or he could have given a nod to Cassels and given it to Appleby as well, he was superb.

And that's why SSM, Erie and North Bay are not going to Quebec, Oshawa had goaltending and plays a great defence and offense was not to shabby either

I think myself and others just assumed the MVP trophy was similar to the Conn Smythe, where it should go to the MVP of the winning team. I'm sure even McDavid didn't give 2 ***** about that award. The only rewarding part would be that Oshawa really didn't have 1 MVP caliber performance. Appleby, Cassels, and Mistele would be front runners, but the entire team bought into what DJ was preaching. My favorite part about this team is that there is no face of the team like McDavid is to Erie, its just 1 big unit.

What's his name...Lmao You'll never forget his name, it will be in the History books. Cassels is a great two-way player, but better than "whats his name"...:shakehead

If the generals play their game the other teams are in trouble

Your right if the gen's play there style will have an successful Memorial Cup but if they don't there in trouble as it's not a best of 7, I'm sure DJ Smith will have the boys ready
