He is a poor skater. He still has a place on the Team but probably not for long.

Who do you feel he is a better skater than?

All I am saying is he isn't a terrible skater, and skating isn't enough to want him off the team, because of everything else he brings.

If he wasn't top 3 in faceoffs in the league, and was terrible defensively, then sure, that is not the case.

Steckel is an asset to this team, and is not a problem at all

Im afraid my worst fear will come true.

1. No prospects have opportunity to play on big club with the likes of Connolly/Lombo/Komi/Stekel holding down the fort.
2. Burke will trade young assets for Luongo.
3. Team will make playoffs - get bounced in 4 games. Draft low.

I've missed these discussions. Almost brought a tear to my eye when I started reading how we are arguing on how well David Steckl can skate.

Also, has anyone heard from Reimer recently? Is he snowed in somewhere in Manitoba? We should probably figure that out.

Out of the two Connolly is easily the most valuable despite that salary. There was much left to be desired in terms of his health, effort and offensively ability. The one area he appeared to be useful was the penalty kill. Lombo is pretty useless at everything.

I want to see Lombardi this year, maybe with a full off-season + more to train will help. Guy has crazy speed. I'd rather do that in the preseason though, but we don't get one of those lol

Lupul---Kadri---Kessel
JVR---Grabovski---Frattin
Connolly---McClement----Kulemin
Komorov----Steckel-----Brown

Phaneuf--Gunnerson
Gardiner---Ranger
Liles---Holzer

Luongo
Reimer

LOL....he is over rated on here....

He is a serviceable D man....a good 3 pairing D man. He is not a first pairing player. 19 points from a player who is playing huge minutes. Schenn out scored him playing far less minutes as did Franson who played 19 games less and far less minutes.

He is over rated.

Why are you bringing up offensive production when we're talking about steady defensive play?

Gunnarsson is not good offensively, but he can move the puck well in his own end, make smart passes, and play smart and steady defensively. Phaneuf looks a lot better when Gunnar is his partner. There's a reason he played every game when healthy and averaged 21:42 ice time per game, good for 2nd on the team.

But of course, I'm an idiot, and so are all of the Leafs' coaches, scouts, and management who see this in Carl, because you guys are right...

Re: Steckel

I'm not on anyone's side here. He's been a surprising force at the face off circle, but he's not a fast/good skater.

Lol

Better than arguing about thread counts and towels .:handclap:

Reimer has major holes in his game. Huge question marks surrounding the LEafs net.

Carlyle played Steckle a lot when he was brought in. We have McClement, don't need steckle.

McClement isn't a replacement over Steckel.

Carlyle likes a 2 scoring line, 2 checking/energy lines

Kulemin-McClement-Frattin
Komarov-Steckel-Brown

will likely be the bottom 6.

Kadri, Kessel, Lupul, Grabo, JVR, CMac, Bozak, Connolly will have to somehow fit into the top 6

I think Phaneuf is more over rated than Gunnarson.

By the rest of Hfboards they are both criminally underrated, by Leaf fans they may be slightly overrated but to a much less degree.

eg. Phaneuf lost to Campbell in a poll because he's "not as good defensively" :help:

This was exactly my point.

I am not saying Steckel is an all-star skater, and he will never win a fastest skater competition. Part of that is because he is a bigger guy.

I am saying that he is an average skater for guys his size, and isn't enough to want him gone because he brings more to this team

Sorry this is the same guy who was voted the MOST OVER-RATED IN ENTIRE NHL BY HIS PEERS?
That same Dion ?

Gunnar got that ice time because there were no better options.
