Kadri at top line centre experiment.

I want to see how this works out for at least five games. If not put him on the second line with JVR and Kulemin as wingers.

It will certainly be an experiment.

Here is what is going against him:

Lupul and Kessel are defensive liabilities.
Kadri has been playing wing for years now in the AHL.
He could not win draws against other NHLers.
He does not have the strength to be effective defensively.

I think the way Carlyle likes to operate is to have his top line to be very offensive, while his 2nd line plays more of a defensive role... and the third line being the offensive cast-offs.

With that in mind, we might see something along these lines:

Lupul-Grabo-Kessel(dammit, they do play well together)
Kulemin-Bozak-Frattin
JVR-Kadri-MacArthur
Brown-McClemment-Steckel/Komarov/Broll/Orr

point 2: false
point 3: young players struggle, they also improve with practice
point 4: defense isn't all about strength, that's why Kaberle was effective for many years.

winning formulas and defensive styles do win championships.

see: LA Kings, Boston, and other Stanley Cup champs.

I'm sorry when was this Kaberle person effective? 10 years ago maybe? 12 years ago?

What winning team allows their top line to play shinny for the sake of the fans?

Third line in Carlyle's system is defensive minded so kadri will not be a 3rd line center. Bozak I think is gone this year and possibly Mac.

Lup-?-Kess
JVR-Grabo-Fratt/Kadri
Kule-McClem-Fratt/Kadri
Lombard/?-Steck-Brown/?

Rumor has it that with Kesler out, Vancouver will want Bozak + in return for Luongo. That being said

Lupul Connolly Kessel (Carlyle ran Connolly hard last year)
JVR Grabovski MacArthur
Kulemin McClement Komarov
Brown Steckel Ashton

(outside looking in)
Lombardi
Frattin
Kadri

Phaneuf Gunnarsson
Ranger Liles / Gardiner
Komisarek Gardiner/Liles

Franson

Luongo
Reimer

I can't see Ashton making the Team

Burke/Carlyle like grit in the line-up. Carter Ashton has been a physical beast for the Marlies. Even Eakins said that hes played so well that he cant take him out of the line-up. Cannot see Carlyle inserting a softy on the 4th line.

Interesting, didn't realize that.

I haven't been too impressed with Ashton since he was obtained. That 4th line gritty role may be the only way he sticks in the NHL.

I can't see any way Frattin isn't on the Team. I do expect some trades.

What about Komarov?

he was awesome for the Marlies before he left to the KHL.

Hes the kind of player that will see more then 6-10 minutes of ice time in a game. Essentially why i slotted him in the top 9. Ashton is a guy that will go balls out in the 4th line role.

I agree. I only slotted Frattin on the outside looking in because hes one of the only guys that is on an ELC and can move up and down. I highly doubt the organization will put him in a limited role when he can be playing top six in the AHL.

I definitely don't see him beating out Frattin, but I think there's a spot on the 4th line for one of Komarov/Ashton/Lombardi so I think he has a shot. IMO he's done quite well as a grinder type for the Marlies. Shows some physicality, although you'd still like more, fairly positionally sound (this is fairly hard to evaluate 'cause the next level up requires more instincts and speed to stay positionally sound and that's where he might run into issues), and willing to do the kinds of things you'd want out of a bottom 6 guy. I think a more seasoned guy like Komarov probably beats him, as long as he comes back, so I wouldn't give Ashton the spot, but I wouldn't count him out either. JMO

Kessel Bozak/Kadri Lupul
JvR Grabo Mac/Kule
Frattin Bozak/Kadri Mac/Kule
Komarov Steckle/McClement Brown

Gunnar Phaneuf
Liles Komi
Gards Holzer

Where are Connolly and Lombardi in the majority of these lineups? These guys will get the chance to play, regardless if they deserve it or not.

Lupul/Bozak/Kessel
MacArthur/Grabovski/Kulemin
JVR/McClement/Connolly
Lombardi/Steckel/Brown

It may turn out this way with Frattin/Kadri stashed in the A for the first inevitable injury replacements and Komarov as the 13th guy who slowly steals minutes from vets and rotates guys out for days off.

I can't say it's my favourite potential lineup, but you may well be right that's what they go with.

Lupul Bozak Kessel (I'm sorry but Connolly just isn't good enough)
JVR Grabovski Kadri (Perfect time to see what we've got in Kadri. Sink or swim)
Kulemin McClement Frattin (I like this line a lot)
Brown Steckel Komarov

Lombardi sits in the pressbox.
Connolly bought out/amnestied and no longer has a place in hockey.

Phaneuf/Gunnar
Liles/Gardiner
Rielly/Franson

Komisarek bought out/amnestied and no longer has a place in hockey.

EDIT: I realized I forgot Mac.. Honestly let's just forget about him?

it boggles my mind how many people think our lineup sucks. to me we have a lot of depth and some nice pieces and we have just been failed by our goaltending.

we have 9 forwards capable of putting up 20+ goals.

All we are really missing is a true #1 center.

I still think Kadri can do well between Kessel and Lupul. Kadri may not be the biggest guy, but he plays bigger then he is and has ton of grit. Lupul has pretty good size to go into the corners.

Kadri also has unreal speed and playmaking abilities which would be perfect with Kessel.

I think it's worth a shot to see if Kadri can be what we all think he can be.
