I am thinking:

Lupul - TC(it is a contract year after all) - Kessel
JVR - Grabo - Kulemin
Mac - Bozak - Kadri
Komarov - McClement - Steckle

Gunnersson - Phaneuf
Liles - Franson
Holzer - Komisarek

Reimer(maybe Luongo?)
Scrivens
Sorry to Mike Brown but maybe Komarov takes his spot, granted he wont always be scratched. Also sorry to Frattin, poor guy just doesnt have a solid spot atm and Kadri deserves to play finally. At least until Mac is traded Frattin might have to wait, or Kadri if he gets beaten out in camp.

Edit: Forgot the D like a derp.

at this point the only guarantee come opening night is Kessel paired with Lupul on the first line. after that it could be one of 5 players in the middle (Bozak, TC, Kadri, JVR, Grabo) . Then you have a mish mash of combinations possible for the 2nd and 3rd lines. Its going to be fun to see what works out.

One really nice thing, the Leafs have a lot of depth on the Marlies if we get into injury problems. There are seriously 5 to 6 forwards who could fit in ably, not to mention some decent D options. It's been a long, long time since the Leafs have had such a good minor league team, and it will pay some dividends moving forward, particularly the vet depth we have down there.

You sir, speak the truth.

I'm gonna go out on a limb with my roster here....

Lupul - Kadri - Kessel
Frattin - Grabo - JVR
Mac - Lombardi - Kulemin
Brown - Steckel - Komarov

Gunnar - Phaneuf
Liles - Gardiner
Kaberle - Ranger

Luongo

Reimer is gone as part of a package for Luongo.
Connolly is in the press box, or bought out.
Komi is bought out
Montreal buys out Kaberle and he signs here cheap (Personal Reasons)
Bozak is part of a package for Luongo

With no moves:

Lupul-Bozak/Connolly-Kessel
JVR-Grabovski-Kulemin (believe Grabo and Kulemin are key this season, did well in KHL)
Mac-Bozak/Connolly-Kadri
Komarov-McCelement-Brown

Gunnar-Phaneuf
Gardiner-Ranger
Liles-Holzer
Komisarek

extras: Franson (RFA), and Lombardi

Reimer

Thats if we are all healthy and no moves.

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kadri/Frattin
Kulemin - Connolly - MacArthur
Broll - McClement - Komarov
Steckel

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Holzer
Liles - Rielly

Luongo
Reimer

Frattin\Kadri and Komisarek for Luongo

The NHL/NHLPA work stoppage is finally over. Say what you will about the labor relations but that is for another thread.

This is for another concern.

Your Toronto Maple Leafs.

Post Carlyle's lineup opening night.

After thinking of this one all night, came to this:

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Kulemin -Grabovski - JVR
Connolly - McClement - MacArthur
Frattin - Steckel - Brown

Extras - Lombardi / Komarov

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Liles - Komisarek
Gardiner - Holzer

Extras - Franson (RFA) / Ranger

Reimer
Scrivens

After the leafs deal for luongo the opening night roster will be:
Kessel,connoly,lupul
Mac,grabovski,JVR
Kulimin,McClement/Lombardi/kadri,frattin
Komorov,steckel,brown

Gunnerson,phanuef
Liles,holzer/franson
Reilly/franson,komisarek

Luongo
Scrivens

So many coaches are saying due to the shortened season, with no training camp, and the importance of the games they will be sitting players. All players, not just the scrubs.

So the line-up could very well change night to night.

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kadri/Frattin
Kulemin - Connolly - MacArthur
Broll - McClement - Komarov
Steckel

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Holzer
Liles - Rielly

Luongo
Reimer

Frattin\Kadri and Komisarek for Luongo

Gardiner has a concussion and won't be ready.

:leafs

Joffrey Lupul - Nazem Kadri - Phil Kessel
Nikolai Kulemin - Mikhail Grabovski - Clarke MacArthur
James Van Reimsdyk - Tim Connolly - Matt Frattin
David Steckel - Jay McClement - Leo Komarov

That leaves Tyler Bozak and Mathew Lombardi as odd men out.

I predict Tyler Bozak to be dealt along with Joe Colborne to Vancouver for Roberto Luongo.

Lombardi could be a buyout candidate. Brown as the extra forward.

Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Komisarek - Gardiner
Liles - Holzer
Kostka

as the D pairings to start the year. Fraser will come in place for Gardiner if he isn't ready for the start of the season.

Luongo
Reimer

as the Goalies.

I think the above team is definitely a playoff caliber team if all goes well. It'll definitely be one of the better skating teams up front and the D has enough mobility with Gunnar, Phaneuf, Gardiner and Liles. The key will be a defensive system instilled by the coaches. Top that off with Luongo's goaltending and this team should be fine.

^ forgot Franson.

He's still unsigned as a RFA. I would bring him back if I could, but the fact that the Leafs didn't really make any effort in getting him locked up makes me think he's either a trade candidate or they just won't sign him.

I like his game, personally. He's very efficient with using his stick to knock the puck off opposing forwards and he's got a hard, albeit inaccurate shot.

But he never really came out of Wilson's doghouse and even Carlyle gave Komisarek most of the ice time even though I felt Franson deserved more than he got.

I would bring him back as I think with Gardiner's injury we might need depth at D once again.

Not bad, but Flip Jvr to his right wing with Grabovski and have Kulemin on the checking line with Connolly and Frattin.

JVR isn't known for his defense, he is average at best, so he needs to be on a scoring line. Grabo and Mac provide enough line defense to shelter him there. Carlyle is going to have a shutdown line that is defensively responsible and with Frattin and Kulemin he has solid checking on there as well.

There are going to be some moves for sure, there are a few extra bodies hanging around. Kadri will need to impress immediately, otherwise Bozak will be in there. Would rather have Bozak on third line as he is more of the future, but a healthy Connolly is very good defensively and probably what Carlyle wants right now.

Can the lineup support both Steckel and McClement? If so I would rather them be both on the fourth line as you have them. Then Brown and Komorov fight for the last spot.

Should be an interesting 2 weeks.

What I like most is that we don't have filler on our bottom 6 anymore. There are actually bottom 6 NHLers. TBH I think we need a #1 C and another top 6 winger and the forwards will be rounded up well.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

There were also lots of Kulemin not coming back to TOR rumors but his agent told me last night rumors are false and Kulemin will be in TOR.

I didn't read the rumors about his staying in the KHL but I guess there was some rumors about it.

Glad to have assurance he'll be back though.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger

Leafs\Marlies still hoping for improvement in Jake Gardiner's recovery from concussion. He's progressing slowly and will be awhile.

That's some bad news to hear this morning.

He can take as much time as he wants. Take the half year off if he needs to.

Joffery Lupul - Tyler Bozak - Phil Kessel
James Van Riemsdyk - Mikhail Grabovski - Clarke MacArthur
Nikolai Kulemin - Jay McClement - Matt Frattin
Leo Komarov - David Steckel - Mike Brown

Dion Phaneuf - Carl Gunnersson
Paul Ranger - Morgan Rielly (9 games/less until Gardiner comes back)
JM Liles - Korbian Holzer
Mike Komisarek

James Reimer
UFA Backup

^Exactly this.
