Brown - MCclement - Broll

Phaneuf - Gunnar

2nd/3rd line are interchangeable. Thoughts on a possible Kuly - Grabo - Komarov line? Russian connection.

Honestly, I look at this lineup and I like it. Why? I see a top 3 pick from first glance. It's worst than last year, look at that defence. OMG, please for god's sake send Rielly back to juniors, the kid may never recover. My biggest worry.

I would be more then OK with Kule-Grabo-Komarov line.
But IMO we gotta come back with a JVR-Kadri-Frattin

you must have missed him. understandable. has been long year.

I do too, until you toss JVR in the mix

I like the looks of a Kulemin-Grabo-Komarov line.

Maybe:

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
Kulemin-Grabo-Komarov
JVR-Kadri-Frattin
Brown-Connolly-MacArthur

Too much depth, not enough top talent lol.

Belak was a great guy.

Bisonette is a jerk. I follow him on Instagram for some reason. Not a guy I would ever want in Toronto. Ever.

This. MacKinnon/Jones here is your welcoming red carpet!!! Thanks Burkie, we'll finally have our first line C or top end D!

Buyout: Komisarek, Liles

Lupul-Kadri-Kessel
JVR-Grabovski-Kulemin
Frattin-Bozak-MacArthur
Komorov-McClement-Lombardi

Phaneuf-Gunnarson
Gardiner-Ranger
Kostka-Holzer
Extra: Fraser, (Franson is unsigned)

Reimer
Scrivens

That's actually not a bad 3rd line.

Buyouts: I believe they can't be used until the summer of 2013 and 2014.

Even if that's not the case, I can't see Burkie buying out Liles only a few months after giving him that extension.

If he does, the owners may have pay it out of his own salary... :D

:leafs

Joffrey Lupul - Nazem Kadri - Phil Kessel
Nikolai Kulemin - Mikhail Grabovski - Clarke MacArthur
James Van Reimsdyk - Tim Connolly - Matt Frattin
David Steckel - Jay McClement - Leo Komarov

That leaves Tyler Bozak and Mathew Lombardi as odd men out.

I predict Tyler Bozak to be dealt along with Joe Colborne to Vancouver for Roberto Luongo.

Lombardi could be a buyout candidate. Brown as the extra forward.

Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Komisarek - Gardiner
Liles - Holzer
Kostka

as the D pairings to start the year. Fraser will come in place for Gardiner if he isn't ready for the start of the season.

Luongo
Reimer

as the Goalies.

I think the above team is definitely a playoff caliber team if all goes well. It'll definitely be one of the better skating teams up front and the D has enough mobility with Gunnar, Phaneuf, Gardiner and Liles. The key will be a defensive system instilled by the coaches. Top that off with Luongo's goaltending and this team should be fine.

Will no longer be on the team

Lombardi (Carlyle likes big and gritty)
Connelly (ditto)
Komi (Big and gritty, no puck or passing skills, no longer NHL'r, after Gardiner returns will not dressed)

Not quite ready for prime time

Broil (not a great fighter, cant score, lousy puck skills, decent skater for big man, needs 3 years in the Ahl)
Rielly (didnt come close to dominating at WJC like Trouba or Jones did, likely 2 years away, anothe WJC and 1 year AHL)
D'Amigo (a bottom six grinder, another year)
Colborne (Needs another year, may not be top six, love the size and vision, needs to to go to the net more and not play on the periphery)
Ashton (needs another year in AHL, love his speed, grit, coming on nicely)

Definitely in

Frattin (speed, really solid for his height with grit, great shot)
Kadri (magic hands, maturing, plays with grit)
Komorav (skate, shoot, score, gritty egde

Bubble

Holzer (earned the start, has to play with grit which he has lately, limited puck skills)
Fraser (love his grit and legit tough guy, similar to Holzer, only need 1 of these)
Ranger (no brainer, size, toughness, puck skills, howitzer. Not sure why he isnt signed- may need to release a player - Orr- in order to hit 50 contract limit)
Kostka- love this kid, dominating ahl, puck patience thru the roof, only a bit more edge. Without Gardiner, they likely need a guy like this to run the pp to complement Liles
Steckel- may only have room for one of he or McClement
Brown- likely makes team with his edge, willing fighter, speed and grit

Carlyle's team

- Will go for big gritty players a la Perry and Getlaf and the rest of the Ducks. They dominated the boards, finished checks, ran Detroit out of the rink in Western conf final with dominating boards. If you are not this kind of player, your gone. Lombardi and Conolly are way to soft, Bozak may be as well. Kessel will be interestig as he is soft, will Carlyle put up with that. By next year with all the UFA's, this team will be much bigger and grittier than the one we see opening night

Does it really matter what line combinations are? Beyond Kessel & Lupul our fingers are crossed and we start every sentence with 'IF'.

I'm F---ing scared this season.

I feel better having Reimer or Scrivens in net than Phaneuf as my #1 D.
He's a $5 000 000 plug/pilon, please select your favourite adjective.

We have another pilon in Komisarek & a 3rd in Steckel. He can win faceoffs but he can't skate to the bench to get subbed off in time to make a difference.

Can't wait until we buy Komi out this summer. Liles looks like a horrible trade now that Gardiner is way ahead of expectations & we drafted Rielly. Hopefully Burke gets rid of his Phaneuf boner and doesn't resign him.

We trade Bozak to Vancouver for Luongo, what 3rd line C do we replace him with? Connolly? Grabo? JVR and his 16% face off percentage?

I have 8 IF's that have to fall into place for us to make the playoffs. Actually 9. I'll only tell you the 9th - IF all other 8 fall into place.

It will be another long year as a leaf fan.. glad this is a short season.

not many teams have the offensive forward depth to match the production of Grabo, Mac, JVR, Bozak, Kulemin, Connolly (kadri/frattin) behind their top-2 forwards.

I'd like to see Rielly play in a few games to start the season if he looks good in camp. Does anyone know with the new CBA how many games are prospects eligible to play before a year is burned on their contract? Is it still at 10?
