Veleno on the 4th line wing might be a hint that he's going down. Hope I'm wrong though.

They just favor physical 3rd line, nothing else.

I would favor more skilled line and more physical 4th.

But they will be nice speed-demon duo with Stephens. Maybe it becomes a threat like Maltby-Draper was, 2 great skaters.

Weird that you guys are slottong Ryan on the lines and guy is not even signed.

I would much rather pick Alex Barre-Boulet from waivers or something.

Go with better players. Like with own kids.

It's not weird. The tea leaves seemed to indicate Ryan getting a contract. No guarantee, but penciling him into lineups isn't that crazy.

I'm not convinced ABB is a better fit than Ryan. That reeks of grass-is-greener mentality. Frankly, we probably have better options than both.

I think so too. He'll go down, and one of Namestnikov or Smith will draw into the top-12, with the other being the reserve forward to start.

ABB is a young prospect when Bobby Ryan won't see any future in NHL. I think there's the incentive. ABB will fit to our prospect core and we have enough vets to fill the vet holes.

Anyways, they have 24 guys up right now. And you sign Ryan, it means two guys waivered or two ELCs down. That's Raymond and Veleno.

If Yzerman signs Ryan, he is Ken Holland 2.0.

ABB is really skirting the edge of prospect status. He's a 24yo AHL-NHL tweener who has proven he can score in the A, but who very much lacks a complete game. Couple that with his smaller stature and questionable skating, and he appears destined to remain an offensive player in the AHL for the most part.

I'm not pumping Ryan's tires here as much as I'm pushing back on this ABB talk. I think the ABB some of you are imagining around here is a different player than the real ABB.

Based on what I've seen this preseason, 4th line seems like a good fit for Veleno. And that's why I hope he gets sent down

I can’t tell if I am happier for Raymond or sadder about Ryan. bittersweet

Henkka seems to celebrate Ryan's career being over, and he could be right about that. But like you, I hope he signs somewhere. His PTO seemed to be an opportunity for him in Detroit, but also a professional courtesy to show what he's got to other teams in the case Detroit doesn't sign him. He's slow, but the mind and hands are still there, and he showed well these past weeks. He still has 3rd-line/PP upside.

Surprised we didn't keep Ryan and simply waive Namestnikov. But it eliminates Blashill's ability to simply "blender" the lines to keep the kids from getting their playing time.
